didnt we learn our lesson with the private schools in pro markets with boston college?
9/17/2011 12:29:03 AM
^ my point exactly. And ECU and Boise don't bring anywhere near the tv market and fan base of WVU. All three are located in bum fucking Egypt, but WVU is like the UNC of West Virginia (as far as wal-mart fan types).
9/17/2011 12:31:06 AM
9/17/2011 3:44:53 AM
ouch... they wont like that one
9/17/2011 3:57:31 AM
they don't like it, but it's true anyway.and shit, i'd add texas, pitt, syracuse and west virginia. i'd sign that right now.and GUYS, uccon doesn't bring in new TV MARKETS. THE ACC NEEDS MORE TV MARKETS.
9/17/2011 4:42:39 AM
So stupid. Why take shitty markets like that? Pittsburgh? OK, I get that.. but if you're going to randomly take on a shitty northeast market, what's the point? Isn't that what BC is for?^ Hartford is as big a TV market as Syracuse is and UConn has better programs and potential (not to mention it is now a Top 20 public school in the US). Plus the obvious fact that they have an exclusive deal with one of, if not, the largest regional sports networks in the country -- SNY.[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 7:43 AM. Reason : x]

yea and wake is an albatross

Syracuse, despite being on the other side of the state, helps get a foot in the door for basketball coverage in NYC. Pitt helps open up Pennsylvania and Ohio for football recruiting.Plus, in a purely geographical sense it makes a nice unbroken chain up the eastern seaboard. If it was up to me, I'd try and go full-on super conference and try to get Rutgers and UConn as well. Mainly because doing that would further take the Big East's stranglehold of of NYC. But that' probably going to take a while longer.[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 10:52 AM. Reason : UConn, Rutgers, Syracuse, Pitt, and Duke would mean ACC tournaments in MSG :-)]
9/17/2011 10:49:06 AM
i think the big east would have to completely dissolve (which it probably would) before the ACCT went to MSG
9/17/2011 10:57:39 AM
I dunno. They'd probably end up looking west for expansion (hell, they already have). If they add teams like Mizzou or Iowa State they won't be able to get the attention from New York that they're used to.
9/17/2011 11:01:47 AM
I would say the only teams that NYC follows (when they are good) is Syracuse, UConn and on the basketball side St. Johns.Despite all the hype around Schiano a few years back NYC really still doesn't care about it... at least any more than Seton Hall hoops. There's a reason SNY didn't team up with Rutgers and it's just that they don't have a recognizable brand. When programs are similar in stature in football (and lets face it, right now UConn isn't far behind Syracuse and Pitt and is probably ahead of Rutgers) you have to look at other things like basketball, like potential and like fanbase.* Oh and one more thing, I don't understand not looking at Louisville. They have everything in place to be one of THE premier sports programs in the country. They make money hand over fist and are the most profitable basketball program in the country. I know, I know they are landlocked but who cares at this point? I mean they are one heck of a lot closer than Miami or Boston College...(and for what it's worth, I don't care if UConn doesn't get invited to a major conference. The basketball program isn't going away and the football program is too young for me to have any vested interest in)[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 11:16 AM. Reason : x]

i guess louisville will probably go to the big 10, i agree they'd be a good get thoughi didnt know Cuse and Pitt had actually applied to the ACC already though[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 11:25 AM. Reason : ]
9/17/2011 11:22:26 AM
ESPN Gameday just said Heather Dinich is reporting Syracuse and Pitt have formally applied for ACC membership.
9/17/2011 11:25:04 AM
What does that mean, though? I mean applied? Is it look grad school application? Is there even any indication the ACC wants to expand? And if so, include both of them?
9/17/2011 11:25:47 AM
it means "if you want to expand, we're interested in joining...consider us"i dont know for sure, but i imagine each school has a separate application[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 11:26 AM. Reason : ]

9/17/2011 11:32:39 AM
Pit and Cuse? I can get behind that. Rather have UConn though. If we went to 16 and added those three, who would be the 4th? Texas is a terrible idea. A different Big XII team like Mizzou? WVU or Rutgers? Conference names don't seem to mean anything anymore so it doesn't have to be a coastal team, but I can't think of many value added schools left (considering distances, tv markets, etc).
9/17/2011 11:37:17 AM
Bill Russell! didn't take no junkand Darryl Dawkins got a MONSTER dunk!^you said several things, but didn't give any reasons[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 11:39 AM. Reason : ]
9/17/2011 11:38:33 AM
WV would be a solid add. Strong football and basketball programs and rivalries with Pitt and Maryland (maybe VT?).WV, Pitt, Syracuse, UConn, someone else, and drop BC for the love of Everett CaseTexas would be great for competition, but would be totally running shit almost immediately. Too much political friction.[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 11:48 AM. Reason : None of this will happen. Or Cuse will fall off when Boeheim retires.]
9/17/2011 11:47:19 AM
Make no mistake. They would not have "formally applied" unless the ACC had given indication they would be let in. That doesn't mean it can't be scuttled (lawsuits, buyouts, a UVA/VT type political situation) but it is almost inevitable they will join now.
9/17/2011 12:04:22 PM
Dude on Goal Line said 10 schools have approached the ACC
9/17/2011 12:06:10 PM
If we do add those two teams they really need to realign the divisions into a north and south or something.
9/17/2011 12:06:59 PM
I wish they would just do away with the way the NCAA runs college football and overhaul the whole system (even if it is Mark Cuban). The WWE has better structure than this stupid BCS crap.
9/17/2011 12:09:31 PM
I could get behind Cuse and Pitt. From the Big East I'd maybe rather have WV instead of 'Cuse. But I definitely like Pitt.
9/17/2011 12:21:26 PM
I am sure Pitt and WV are going to do what the other is doing because it would hurt both of them to be seperated
9/17/2011 12:28:30 PM
South Florida? Central Florida? I wouldnt be surprised if the ACC didnt try to get a bigger presence in the state of Florida.
9/17/2011 12:30:33 PM
pennsylvania doesn't touch the atlantic coast does itPitt would be the first school in the ACC to do that right?
9/17/2011 12:33:00 PM
marko is already sketching a wolf crossing the Delaware
9/17/2011 12:35:34 PM
he needs a lewis and clark wolf to go to texas, even though that might be historically inaccurateperhaps an alamo wolf
9/17/2011 12:38:13 PM
Isn't it surprising Syracuse would leave behind Georgetown and UConn? I'd definitely prefer WVU over them. I'd rather have UConn than either but whatever.
9/17/2011 12:46:55 PM
I'd be down with Pitt and Syracuse then maybe grab Louisville and wvu. Split the divisions to north and south and you would basically get most of the old ACC in the south and the north would be mostly big east additions so most rivalries would be kept intact. Also would be four pretty good basketball additions
9/17/2011 12:47:11 PM
anyone else assuming that Texas will be one of the 4 teams to join
9/17/2011 12:51:17 PM
9/17/2011 12:54:18 PM
I keep seeing that 10 schools have applied to the ACC....does anybody know what schools they are talking about other than Pitt and Syracuse
9/17/2011 12:57:43 PM
i thought 10 schools reached out, not necessarily applied[Edited on September 17, 2011 at 12:59 PM. Reason : ]
9/17/2011 12:59:27 PM
I should have said reached out I really hope to get Texas that would be sweet
9/17/2011 1:04:50 PM
texas would be an absolute disaster. they would show up and demand the keys to the house right away, and they'd get it. disaster.
9/17/2011 1:06:49 PM
orangebloods guy says that if the big xii falls apart, that texas is still leaning towards ACC
9/17/2011 1:08:02 PM
Adding Texas is almost as stupid as TCU joining the big east
9/17/2011 1:12:28 PM
the conference needs more than 2 annually-good football programs, Texas would be a 3rd
9/17/2011 1:14:22 PM
So is it safe to assume the ACC shouldn't be worried about losing any existing members now that they've raised the buyout to 20 million?
9/17/2011 1:14:56 PM
how did they get away w/ that? that makes me think that we're adding texas i don't see how else they could get FSU to agree to that.
9/17/2011 1:15:47 PM
I think it is Pitt, Cuse, UConn, and Rutgers or WVU.
9/17/2011 1:16:27 PM
9/17/2011 1:17:15 PM
How would Texas hurt the ACC?
9/17/2011 1:18:25 PM
how would texas hurt the big 12?
9/17/2011 1:18:42 PM
FSU knows they haven't been able to win a terrible ACC lately. If they hope to get back to looking like a top program leaving for the SEC would be a terrible idea.
