god this kid is retarded. You can tell his thought process went something like this: hey this guy is an inch or two taller than the guys ahead of him on the depth chart, his physical dimensions clearly make him the better player even though he hasn't actually played a snap of college football and the guys ahead of him have played well for us in games and/or scrimmage situations. Keep in mind this is the same dumbass who thinks Russell Wilson will still be playing football for us his senior year, that should tell you all you need to know about how valuable his opinion is in relation to football.

The preview guides are out, and things look pretty good.

The lowest I've seen us so far is 3rd in the division. Most have us 2nd behind FSU.

VT is picked to repeat.

My pick: probably 8 wins and a trip to the Champs Sports Bowl.

I'm looking forward to the return of Javon Walker. Hopefully he'll be ready for the beginning of the season and give us veteran experience in the secondary. He and Clem Johnson can lock that shit down.

i think with a year under their belt, byers and simmons will be able to shoulder some of the load, too

I tend to agree with this, since they've had all kinds of issues in the offseason (from the cheating scandal to players dismissed or arrested). But at the same time, who else are you gonna pick in the Atlantic division besides us or FSU? Not to mention we still have a issues on the offensive line and at CB and safety.

"NC State not backing down from SEC

June 5, 2009 3:56 PM

Posted by ESPN.com's Heather Dinich

Kudos to NC State and coach Tom O'Brien for participating in the 2012 Chick-fil-A Kickoff game in Atlanta against Tennessee. Clemson has done it (or at least tried), Virginia Tech will participate this fall against Alabama, and North Carolina might be next on the list.

It's these kinds of matchups that help the ACC build its reputation -- not beating up on two FCS schools. Georgia Tech took a huge step forward last season with its road win over rival Georgia. There were several notable nonconference wins for the ACC last season. The league finished 17-14 last year against teams from the Big East, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-10, SEC and Notre Dame.

In addition to boosting the ACC's image, the Kickoff game also goes a long way in exposure, recruiting and payoff for the school. The fact that an NCAA-record 10 ACC teams were bowl-eligible in 2008 and Virginia Tech won the Orange Bowl gave the league some much needed momentum heading into this season to continue to make a push for nationwide respect. It's very possible that, with a few key wins, the ACC could sneak it's way up to the third-best conference this season behind the SEC and the Big 12.

Virginia Tech gets the first shot against Alabama."

HD also posted this about our QB situation:
NC State finally two-deep at quarterback
Quote :
"There's an old saying that when a team has two quarterbacks, it doesn't have one, and usually, it holds true. That's not the case for NC State this year.

The Wolfpack, at least according to the way coach Tom O'Brien has been talking, really does have two legitimate quarterbacks on the roster in starter Russell Wilson and backup Mike Glennon, and O'Brien's not afraid to play them both. In fact, O'Brien has already stated his plans to get Glennon some playing time during the first month of the season. There are two good opportunities for an inexperienced quarterback to take his first collegiate snaps in home games against Murray State and Gardner-Webb.

The question, though, is how O'Brien will continue to use them, considering they both bring different strengths to the position. Glennon has a strong arm and natural physical ability. The staff has already compared him to former Boston College quarterback Matt Ryan. He completed 23 of 38 attempts for 272 yards and one touchdown in the spring game. Wilson, on the other hand, gave defenses headaches last year by making plays with his feet. O'Brien wants Wilson to take the next step this season and make better decisions in the passing game.

It could turn into a remarkably similar situation to what Glennon's older brother, Sean, went through at Virginia Tech when he split time with the more mobile Tyrod Taylor. Or, Glennon could simply be the backup who is used sparingly.

Considering how good Wilson was last year -- and only in his first season as starter -- Glennon would have to be extremely impressive to unseat the ACC's Rookie of the Year. There's no question right now Wilson is the starter, even though he has dedicated significant time to baseball this offseason.

There's no reason for NC State fans to panic over Wilson's participation with the Gastonia Grizzlies, a collegiate team in the Coastal Plain League, which features 14 teams from the Carolinas and Virginia. Wilson is only playing there until the second summer session begins later this month, and Wilson will be around for seven-on-sevens and the usual offseason conditioning and workouts. It's not like his decision to focus on baseball right now earned him a black mark in O'Brien's book.

Regardless of how the snaps are divided this fall, one thing is for sure -- NC State will be twice as good at quarterback as it was this time a year ago."

^ Yep. Not too worried tho. I looked into getting season tix, went and saw the "pegboard" showing what seats were available. Trust me, there wasn't THAT much left. Besides, if the Pack start rolling early, then I'm confident that tix will become a rare commodity.

Which brings me to the Gamecocks...

Look, we all know the SEC is pretty damn good. I realize State got its ass kicked last year. I even understand that State's getting hyped despite lingering Q's in the secondary and a QB coming off of injury...

That said... I want to beat the living FUCK outa those damn GameCOCKS. Yeah they beat us... in a rebuilding year AFTER knocking out the only QB that was worth a damn on our team. This year will be different. This year those douchebags are getting skull-fucked. They won't stop Wilson. They won't get through our front seven on D. They will NOT walk into OUR house beat State. Not a fucking chance.

Last year they beat State, which at the time was little more than a wounded duck. And they chanted SEC! SEC! like they'd accomplished something. Fucking pathetic. This year I'll be there... watching State pillage their shitastic team... and I'll start the chant.... ACC! ACC! ACC! ACC!

I can't fucking wait

please do not try to start that chant. I almost felt bad for them when they were chanting "SEC! SEC! SEC!" last year. They're consistently middle of the road or lower in their conference and they get off doing a conference pride chant? They're not even one of the teams that makes the SEC a powerful conference. Conference pride is just lame anyway

Southern Pigskin picked us as having the 3rd best receiving corps in the ACC (behind Va Tech and Miami):
Quote :
"3. NC State - Juniors Owen Spencer and Jarvis Williams return as starters at wide receiver. Spencer has the talent to contend for All-ACC honors. He averaged 22.3 yards per reception (good for third nationally) last season and scored five touchdowns. Jarvis Williams added 432 yards receiving and four touchdowns. With quarterback Russell Wilson throwing the football, these guys should put up even biggers numbers in 2009."

It's kind of odd that they don't even mention Bowens, but I guess his health is a big concern as he's coming off a fractured spine and a knee surgery.

that myncstate video pumped the hell out of me.

then that 2007 UNCCH game, my eyes almost started bleeding...

then i saw Daniel Evans gift wrap that shit and then gave them a happy ending and a reach-around.

That was a beautiful play by Sutton on Nicks at the end, fitting end for those douche-heels.

i can't wait for 9/3

Over/Under

1) Wilson throws 1 Pick 6

2) Wilson throws 4 ints

3) Wilson starts 11 games

4)...add some more non-wilson ones if you wish, i'm just curious if fans think he can repeat his nearly unblemished passing record again

I'll go...

1) under (lord knows we've had our fill the past 2-3 years)
2) over
3) under (i can see some kind of health issue arising just due to the way he plays)

Pack feeling good, finally
Quote :
"After dealing with seemingly every injury and bad break in the book his first two seasons at N.C. State, Wolfpack football coach Tom O'Brien has started Year 3 with a welcomed turn of good fortune.

The return of defensive end Willie Young, who chose a fifth season in Raleigh over a shot at the NFL, is one reason O'Brien thinks 2009 may prove better than the previous two snakebitten seasons.

But he will knock on wood, just in case. The first two seasons, which O'Brien survived with an 11-14 record and one bowl trip, have taught the coach you can never be too careful.

Before the 2007 season, State lost tight end Anthony Hill to a freak knee injury in a conditioning drill. Then in the first game, running back Toney Baker blew out his knee, followed by a season-ending foot injury to running back Andre Brown in the sixth game.

Receiver Donald Bowens was lost to a back injury before the 2008 season. He was promptly followed by a parade of key players -- from quarterback Russell Wilson to running back Jamelle Eugene, linebacker Nate Irving and Hill (again) -- who spent extended time on the injured list.

Meanwhile, Baker missed his second straight season recovering from knee surgery. It got so bad in 2008 that at one point in October, State was about 40 healthy bodies under the 85-scholarship limit.

It would have been par for the course to lose Young, projected as a second-day draft pick, to the NFL. Young is already old for college football, after spending a year in prep school and redshirting a season. A month-and-a-half older than UNC basketball's Methuselah, Tyler Hansbrough, Young will turn 24 before the Pack plays a game this ACC season.

But Young decided to come back to improve his draft stock, along with N.C. State's chances in the wide-open Atlantic Division.

"Willie Young coming back was the best recruit we had," O'Brien said.

O'Brien told Young, who led the Pack with 6.5 sacks last season, that former Boston College defensive end Mathias Kiwanuka and Wake Forest linebacker Aaron Curry faced the same stay-or-go decisions.

Kiwanuka returned to BC in 2005 and was a first-round pick the following spring. Curry returned to Wake for 2008 and was the fourth overall pick in this year's draft.

"He can be like those two guys and play his way into the first round," O'Brien said.

O'Brien got a second bit of good news in the spring. Eugene, who missed all of spring practice with a shoulder injury, is "full go," the coach said. And Baker, who hasn't taken a snap in 24 games, is expected to be ready for the start of the season.

After going two seasons without a full complement of parts, O'Brien must feel like he's already 2-0."

I don't really think you can count Amato's last season as a "rebuilding year"...more like demolishing year. And 2 years under TOB rebuilding is perfectly acceptable, especially since we went to a bowl game in one of them. I think as a UT fan you'll learn that rebuilding often takes longer than a season this year.

I wouldn't say they have NO chance, but they lost a ton of talent on defense and Garcia is garbage as far as I'm concerned until he proves otherwise.

i know you're an SEC homer and all, but come on dude...a trailing guy who didn't even get in on the tackle ended up kneeing wilson in the side of the head. yeah...tons of credit to the defense there that's like giving credit to the defense for someone rolling their ankle when they step on someone else's foot

^Not to mention the fact that RW circa Sept '08 was more reckless (for lack of a better word) than RW circa Nov '08. He played much smarter later in the season. I think the '09 version will be even more pass first, run second than we saw at the end of last season. Not so much throwing the ball away, but making his way through his progressions to find an open receiver intsead of giving up on the pass on taking off to run.

Hey everyone! Jaybee posted, it must be anti-State and pro-SEC! It cant just be logical or something that applies across all of football!

^^^ and ^^

revisionist bitches, cant stand to let logic get in your way can you? You make it sound like I was cheering for fucking South Carolina... someone had to be after RW to make him go down in the first place, its not like he randomly tripped on the way out to the field or that he got hurt against the team the week before (or practice in this case). Injuries are part of the game. Did it affect the outcome? sure, but there are injuries in every game that affect the outcome. I dont remember in this particular case, but say South Carolina's starting RB was hurt and if he hadnt been hurt they would have won by more than they did... and ^^, hell, I am sure ND would have liked 49ers Montana over ND Montana too, Michigan would like to have NE Tom Brady over riding the pine Michigan Brady... you cant pick and choose
