I'm trying to decide just how slowly(and poorly) recruiting is going this year. Was last year just so good that it makes this year seem slow and sorry? Or is this genuinely shaping up to be a pitiful recruiting class?
7/26/2008 11:23:33 AM
6 commits before the season starts isn't bad I don't think.

http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=830624Here's an article from The Wolfpacker on Beasley, sounds like the NCAA Clearinghouse dropped the ball but it was corrected which is good since we're thin at LB as it is.
7/26/2008 4:41:29 PM
Awesome to hear. Further proof the NCAA hates NC State? I'm glad we have coaches that care as much about the players and work hard like McCollum. He's been a great recruiter for us. Here's to William having a great 4-5 years here, gets a great education, and becomes a great member of the Wolfpack family.

Honestly, if I were interested in academics and not the NFL, I would pick a Duke scholly over an NCSU one in a heartbeat.

Well I know he was interested in engineering, don't know what kind though.

^6-6 325. Had offers from UVA and UMD and apparently looked very good at our camp
7/28/2008 10:18:35 PM
Looks like a good pickup. He plays for Gaffney, which is one of the top football programs in the state of SC. They've got a really nice, new 8,000 seat stadium being built. It will have two video boards to. That thing is nicer than a lot of DI-AA schools' stadiums.http://tinyurl.com/6gfdoxThe offers from Maryland and UVA legitimize this guy. He's obviously got BCS-level talent and just has yet to be seen by the scouts. It's much harder for the scouts to evaluate all the football players out there considering how many there are. That is a big guy though at 6-6 325. Good thing we've got Glennon who will be able to look over all of these big o-linemen for years to come. I wonder if Jaradat leaving helped open up a spot for this guy.Besides offers from UVA and Maryland he also was hearing from Clemson, Notre Dame, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Marshall. It's pretty awesome though that he had offers from UVA and UMD, but liked us so much that he held out for an offer from us. Sounds like he committed right after getting an offer.
7/28/2008 10:54:26 PM
Zach Greene is going to Duke. You heard it here first.
7/28/2008 10:54:59 PM
Even though it was said several posts before you and 2 hours earlier?
7/28/2008 10:57:08 PM
^^^that stadium is nuts for high school. Although i know alot of Texas high school stadiums even put THAT to shame
7/28/2008 11:02:15 PM
Well yeah just look at where LaDainian Tomlinson went. But still that is pretty pimp with 2 video boards. Hell UNC only has one. But you've also got to consider that SC also has a smaller population than Texas.
7/28/2008 11:04:37 PM
this dude looks HUGE with the potential to get even bigger

Waco ISD (Independent School District) Stadium where LT played his high school football. Capacity 11,500, but has a standing room only capacity of 16,500 with people filling in on the hills around the field.
7/28/2008 11:27:54 PM
Jesus christ, isn't that bigger than wake forest?
7/28/2008 11:30:43 PM
Nah, but it gives App's Kidd-Brewer Stadium a run for it's money, especially since it had a much nicer press box/private suites until recently. App was upgrading it all last year. I think it will be open this year. The prior press box at App was pathetic (well at least by our standards ). Waco ISD Stadium though is definitely nicer than WCU's E.J. Whitmire Stadium. Here's a rendition of what the newly upgraded Kidd-Brewer Stadium will look like. I wonder if App will ever consider moving up to DI-A?BTW Wake's Groves Stadium (I refuse to call it BB&T Field ) seats 31,500. Here's some fairly new pictures of the nearly completed Deacon Tower.[Edited on July 28, 2008 at 11:52 PM. Reason : ]

7/29/2008 10:02:38 AM
so how the hell did we lose Zach Greene to duke?as i understand it this guy grew up a wolfpacker.
7/29/2008 10:04:09 AM
Ehhh, student-athlete?
7/29/2008 10:07:00 AM
I really like the look of Wake's new tower. I often wonder why, with all the bricks we've got, we didn't make the Vaughn Towers brick. I personally think it would have looked better than the gun-metal grey we ended up using ... maybe it's just me.
7/29/2008 10:12:17 AM
7/29/2008 10:16:12 AM
^^ I agree, I wish we had used brick as well, I think the pressbox looks like it was made out of giant legos.

yeah, because it's engineering and whatnot. I'm thinking he's leaning towards mechanical or electrical.

http://www.wral.com/sports/story/3299824/Denzelle Good didn’t wait very long to decide where he wanted to play college football.Less than 24 hours after receiving an official scholarship offer from N.C. State, the 6-foot-6, 326-pound offensive lineman gave an oral commitment to the Wolfpack on Thursday.“I kind of felt it (offer) was coming, but I didn’t know when,’’ Good said. “I knew N.C. State was where I wanted to go. I was just waiting on the offer.’’Good, who plays at Gaffney High School in South Carolina, chose the Wolfpack over offers from Maryland and Virginia as well as Football Championship Subdivision member South Carolina State. The commitment is the seventh known one for the Wolfpack and the first from an offensive line prospect.Good is entering his fourth season as a starter at Gaffney where he followed in the footsteps of his older brother, Richard. Richard played tight end for Gaffney in 2005 and 2006.Denzelle has been recruited to play offensive tackle by the Wolfpack.“My strength is that I’m a pretty good pass blocker,’’ Good said. “I can run block, too, but I like to pass block better. And, of course, I’m pretty big, so I can drive people off the line.’’Good is also a standout track and field athlete at Gaffney. He’s recorded a 150-foot toss in the discus and a 45-foot throw in the shot put.
7/29/2008 10:25:22 PM
He likes to pass block because he is a fatass who needs to get in shape!
7/29/2008 10:26:53 PM
Another article on Denzelle.http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/pack-gets-huge-ol-commitPack gets huge OL commitDenzelle Good, a huge rising senior offensive lineman from Gaffney, S.C., has committed to N.C. State.Good is 6-foot-5 and 320 pounds and was rated the ninth-best player in the Class of 2009 in South Carolina by The (Columbia) State Newspaper in February.Gaffney High coach Phil Strickland said Good plays offensive tackle in high school but was recruited to play offensive guard by N.C. State.Maryland also offered Good a scholarship, according to Strickland.“He pass blocks extremely well and just has really good feet to be such a big kid like that,” Strickland said.

DE Justin Foxx commits to DukeDamn, Cutcliffe is on a huge roll. When's the last time we've lost two recruits in two days to Duke?[Edited on July 30, 2008 at 1:49 AM. Reason : Whoops, reported way earlier in the thread]
7/30/2008 1:41:47 AM
I wish people would quit freaking out about losing these recruits to d00k. Green hurts from a the standpoint that we thought we had him locked up, but its not like they're going to out recruit us for the year. We'll be fine as long as we win a few games. People on PP are forgetting that we have a pretty good pair of D linemen in Slay and Dowdy in the class already, and a few others on the board still.
7/30/2008 10:00:39 AM
I think the point is Cutcliffe is no stranger to this process and he might be doing this for a while.I said when they hired him that if anyone could turn them around, it would be him. He is one of the best offensive minds in the college game.
7/30/2008 10:02:20 AM
The in-state talent this year is not like it was last year, which had can't miss on kind of talent. The only in-state players remaining on the board that I really want are Nixon, Boyd, Shankle, Bond, and Bell. We could whiff on all of them though and still be fine. The main reason why I'd like to get Hawatha Bell is b/c it'd help us get some in-roads into the Butler program, which currently is the second best program in Charlotte after Independence. We nearly got Whitley last year, but it didn't work out. Bell has given us a chance to impress him by making us one of his official visits, but it will be tough to swing him from South Carolina and VT which were the early-on favorites.
