^^ I like how they lose to two pretty mediocre New England teams then come in to ACC play and continue to win games... They have been about how good they always have been against their traditional rivals (UMass, PC, etc) but then run train on the ACC..[Edited on December 14, 2007 at 2:45 PM. Reason : x]

Despite Tyler Zeller having a higher star ranking, the voters don't vote based on that. They actually vote on who was the best player. 2005 is a great example. Josh McRoberts was far and away the most highly touted player in that state that year, but the Indiana Mr. Basketball award went to Luke Zeller that year. Is he Tyler's brother?
12/21/2007 10:08:14 PM
He is actually. I still think Tyler will take it.
12/21/2007 10:11:28 PM
Yeah I mean he seems to be the favorite, I'm just saying it's not a guarantee. What's the story on Zeller's game? Is he a pure post player like Hansbrough, or does he have a good inside-outside game like Cosnter and McRoberts? Do you think he'll come in and contribute from the start or do you think there's a chance that Roy would redshirt him?[Edited on December 21, 2007 at 10:16 PM. Reason : ]

http://blogs.newsobserver.com/accnow/index.php?title=pack_makes_request_for_degand&more=1&c=1&tb=1&pb=1Saturday, December 29, 2007Pack makes request for DegandN.C. State coach Sidney Lowe said today that the school had made a request to the NCAA that point guard Farnold Degand be granted a medical redshirt season.Degand, a sophomore who started the Pack's first 10 games, suffered a torn ACL last Sunday in State's win over Cincinnati and will not return this season.Lowe said N.C. State had not received a ruling from the NCAA.Degand signed with Iowa State and was redshirted as a freshman. He then transferred to N.C. State and sat out the 2006-2007 season under NCAA rules.

do you think they'll really give it to him?10 games is a bunch

Isn't the rule that the player can't play more than a third of the games in a season?

yeah i think somaybe they'll have some sympathy for him since this will be his 3rd year of getting screwed over

There are a couple nice articles on the GSK Holiday Tournament in todays N&O, Word of God beat DeMatha 64-62 for the championship. There were a number of big time State recruits playing in the championship including John Wall (14 pts, 3 assists), CJ Leslie (19 points, 6 rebounds) and Naji Hibbert. Looks like Leslie could be Hickson V2.0 and maybe Wall is the PG we've all been dreaming of...maybe Leslie will do some recruiting for us. http://www.newsobserver.com/sports/preps/photos/story/852438.html[Edited on December 30, 2007 at 3:19 PM. I thought Leslie wasn't supposed to be a Hickson type player. I thought he was supposed to be more of a Battier, Dunleavy, Costner, Durant type of forward that can shoot the jumper. I can't remember if that's true or not.

I just watched Perfect Upset the story of the 1985 Villanova vs. Georgetown game for the National Championship on HBO On Demand. Great story and well done by HBO. If you are a fan of college basketball, heck just a fan of teams overcoming incredible odds, then I suggest you watch it. It's outstanding. One thing I noticed in the story was how close we got to reaching the Final Four for the 2nd time in 3 years. We were a 3 seed in the West and took on St. John's the 1 seed of that regional in the Elite Eight. We lost 60-69. St. John's was at one point in the regular season was ranked No. 1 in the country that year. That St. John's team was lead by Chris Mullin and gained that No. 1 ranking by beating Georgetown during the regular season. The ACC had 3 teams in the Elite Eight that year, Georgia Tech who lost to Georgetown, North Carolina who lost to Villanova, and us. Villanova barely beat the Len Bias led Maryland Terrapins in the Sweet 16 46-43. So much is made about how the Big East had 3 teams in the Final Four that year, an incredible feat that I don't see happening again by any conference, but the ACC was close to pulling off the same feat. I know the ACC has put two teams in the Final Four a couple of times, most recently in 2004 with Duke and Georgia Tech, and 2001 with Duke and Maryland. Other times include 1991 Duke and North Carolina, 1990 Duke and Georgia Tech, 1981 Virginia and North Carolina. 2001 and 1981 were the only times in which two ACC teams would play each other in the Final Four, both times being in the Semifinals.I've just got to say that the 80s was a great time for college basketball. The players usually stayed all four years and became legends. There were a lot of great nailbiters, hence the birth of March Madness. It was just an all-around great time for college basketball.

1/3/2008 4:14:46 PM
Tell our team to read this please.NC State: 9-3The Good: Despite ranking second-to-last in the ACC in scoring, NC State is 9-3 with wins over South Carolina, Davidson, Villanova, Cincinnati and Seton Hall. The Wolfpack have dropped games to New Orleans, Michigan State and East Carolina. NC State has talent, including a beast of an inside player in J.J. Hickson. The freshman is a bull who can score and rebound, averaging 17.8 points and 8.3 rebounds while shooting 71.1 percent from the field. Brandon Costner is one of the most talented players in the ACC, Gavin Grant is one of the underrated players in the ACC and Ben McCauley has passing and scoring ability uncommon for his size. This team has ability but has not put anything together in the first half of the season, and the tough half is coming up. Sidney Lowe has some good pieces, but does he have enough glue to keep the pieces together? The Bad: Costner and McCauley have not played anywhere near their ability level, in large measure because they do not have a point guard to set them up. The Wolfpack has not done some of the tough things you need to do to win at the highest level. Despite good size and strength up front, NC State is last in the league in rebounding, does not have great point guard play, and does not force any turnovers. If you do not dribble it off your foot, NC State will not make you cough it up. The Pack forces a league-low 10.9 turnovers per game. The Wolfpack is one of the poorest 3-point shooting teams in the league, and NC State is last in the league in 3-point field goals made. NC State also rings up only 12 assists per game, which is next to last in the ACC. Take Hickson's 71.1 percent shooting off the stat sheet, and NC State is shooting blanks. The Ugly: Losing Farnold Degand was not particularly attractive, especially when there are precious few handlers. The Destination: The NIT and the recruiting trail. The NCAA Tournament is a stretch based on the way NC State has played, but it is not out of the question. The problem is the ACC schedule, which did NC State no favors.

Wehave total confidence that Brian will recover from the injury and return as soon as he is physicallyable.”On the season Zoubek has contributed 4.3 points and 3.7 rebounds per game while shooting ateam-high 59.5 percent from the field.[Edited on January 8, 2008 at 9:41 PM. Can we get to 8-8 in ACC play? Here's what the rest of the schedule looks like and what games I could see us winning if the players can adjust to not having great PG play. We generally play well at home and we did begin to show adjustment toward the latter part of the season when the players began to listen to what Lowe had to say.Jan 19 - Miami - W (if the crowd comes out and supports the team in their first home ACC game)Jan 23 - Georgia Tech - W (Causey has shown that if you put pressure on him he can fold)Jan 26 - @ Florida State - WJan 31 - @ Duke - LFeb 03 - Wake Forest - WFeb 05 - Virginia Tech - WFeb 09 - @ Maryland - L (the Twerps always play us well at home)Feb 14 - @ Boston College - L (BC often plays well at home)Feb 16 - Clemson - LFeb 20 - North Carolina - LFeb 24 - @ Virginia - W (we must put Fells on Singletary though)Feb 27 - Florida State - WMar 01 - Duke - LMar 08 - @ Wake Forest - WThat is plausible. Duke, Clemson, and UNC are the only teams that seem like sure losses based on how well those teams have done this season. On paper we can match up with the other teams well if the players get their heads out of their asses and listen to Lowe like Gavin said recently.
1/16/2008 11:48:23 PM
i'm not saying its likely, but if this team decides to play its not out of reason that we could beat one of the 3 (CU, Duke, UNC-CH) at home
1/16/2008 11:50:25 PM
I'd say Duke or Clemson for that one. Duke b/c our front court may be able to wear them out, and Clemson if we decided to not allow them to score 27 points off of 22 turnovers.
1/16/2008 11:54:40 PM
Dave Odom will announce his retirement on Friday. Who will USC get? I think they will try to get a good coach, b/c they realize that college basketball can make a lot of money especially if they could fill that large arena of theirs every night. Plus Clemson is starting to get pretty good with Oliver Purnell, and the Cocks can't stand losing to Clemson (even though they do lose to them a lot ).http://sports.espn.go.com/ncb/news/story?id=3201864[Edited on January 17, 2008 at 10:05 PM. Do you think we will make the NCAA Tournament? We're what 12-6 right now. I think we need to get to 20 wins, which means we need to get to 8-8 in league play. I can't recall the exact stat, but since the NCAA Tournament was expanded to 64 teams, only like 2-3 ACC teams that have gone 8-8 in conference play have been left out. Also weren't we 7-9 in Hodge's senior year, but we beat Wake in the tournament and snuck in as a 10 seed. We then went on to beat Charlotte in the first round up in Worchester (WOOSTER!), Mass. in the first round. It didn't look good at halftime, but Herb took Atsur off that guy that hit 5 3's in the first half and replaced him with Bennerman and the guy had no points for the rest of the game. Then we all know how Hodge pwnt Ed Nelson, the guy that got 2001-2002 ACC ROY when he was at GT even though Hodge should have won it, in the 2nd round to upset the defending national champion UCONN Huskies to make our first Sweet 16 since 1989. On to the Carrier Dome for the 3rd round game in a matchup with Wisconsin. Hodge nearly went to Syracuse if I recall correctly. At halftime things were looking good. We had a healthy lead on the Badgers. Then some of our starters got into foul trouble and we collapsed. That sucked so badly. Had we won we would have faced North Carolina in the Elite Eight in what would have been a classic game in the rivalry. I remember the announcers talking about how the two fanbases hated each other and had to sit right beside each other.
1/25/2008 11:45:46 AM
no NCAA's this year unless we have another "miracle" run in the ACC tourney and win
1/25/2008 2:09:48 PM
Caulton Tudor made a good point in his ACC Now segment (also mentioned in the N&O article today) that last year Maryland made the tourney and ended up with 10 conference wins after starting 1-4 (not to mention having 2 freshman guards), so maybe we aren't in as desperate a situation as some might have you believe at this point in time.
1/25/2008 2:19:51 PM
that a way to stay positive!
