Anyone reading Punisher lately? I stick only to the MAX books, but he recently appeared in a Deadpool crossover book (Suicide Kings). What's up with him now using super gadgets and weapons? And who is the guy he's working with?

Don't overreact. Disney ain't fucked with Miramax, so why should you think they'd fuck with Marvel?

my roommate has been pushing a lot of marvel my way lately. i just finished secret invasion and am starting dark reign. secret war/civil war and secret invasion (and most of the tie-ins, and planet hulk/red hulk, and messiah war) were both pretty good, but i can't help but think i'm probably better off sticking to batman and blackest night.

I can't say there are any marvel titles I am excited about picking up right now other than Deadpool.I did pick up the Old man Wolverine last week and he killed Banner in a pretty awesome way[Edited on October 10, 2009 at 12:26 AM. Reason : DC ]

So ordinarily, I just wait for the things that I like to be published as bound volumes, or I read things that are already finished. This worked for Y the Last Man, Transmetropolitan, Watchmen, etc. Now, I'm getting into some more recent stuff that's still being published or is just getting started like The Dark Tower series and Doktor Sleepless. Anyway, I went into Ultimate Comics just to browse today and walked out with all sorts of stuff. The most recent issues of The Dark Tower, the first issue of Luke Cage Noir and Spiderman Noir and a neat little volume about toys that come to life, not to mention all the little free ones that my girl wanted to check out. I'm worried this is going to start eating all my money.

Been catching up on Marvel over the past couple months.Read literally all of secret invasion and dark reign, almost 400 comics lol. Now I'm moving on to Siege. I've got to admit I enjoy these company wide crossover event storylines that Marvel has been doing for the past 5 years or so. This all started after I saw the pic of Sentry ripping Ares in half, so I wanted to read that but didn't want to see it out of context, little did I knowAnyone else think that the mutant part of Marvel might be better off split completely from the avengers/rest of marvel? They don't seem to mesh up very well, especially 1) the depiction of the government and 2) the future. When I was younger I loved the x-men and other mutant books and never read spider-man/avengers. Now I'm the opposite, reading x-books feels like a chore.
6/11/2010 12:36:27 AM
^ i've just finished doing that too, and i completely agree. having an actual universe where each individual franchise is still directly affected by these major events is very fucking cool. i'm just about to start siege.as for the mutants, i thought from house of m on was pretty solid, even if it wasn't until utopia that the mutants really got involved with the rest of the universe.daredevil (bendis run and brubaker) is awesome, spider-man is awesome, i've really enjoyed the new hulk run and the new thor run. marvel has been on fire the last handful of years.
6/11/2010 3:07:59 AM
Having not picked up the main X-books for years, I've been sucked back into the Second Coming story since Cable has been a central character over the past year. It looks like a LOT has changed since last I read. Whatever happened to Apocalypse?
6/11/2010 10:08:53 AM
I just recently added this back to my toilet rack , so classic.

^^ yeh, Marvel Secret Wars will always hold a special place in my heart because it's the first comic book I remember reading as a kid, and I collected all the toys.Is anyone reading Jeff Lemire's 'Sweet Tooth'? I absolutely love it. Vertigo just released a TPB of the first 5 issues and it's cheap ($9.99). You won't regret picking it up. Also, Lemire's 'Essex County' is in my top 5 graphic novels of all time... beautiful, heartbreaking, timeless

Ultimate Comics is having their grand opening for their new location tomorrow. They closed their Chapel Hill location and their old Hwy 54 location in Durham, and merged them into a store that was larger than the other 2 combined that they are calling Ultimate Comics Prime. The new store is about 3 miles west down the road from the old Hwy 54 location near South Point. It's at 6120 A Farrington Road, Chapel Hill in the Falconridge Shopping Center near the Mardi Gras Bowling place. Its technically in Chapel Hill town limits but still in Durham County limits since its right on the edge.

Is Promethea any good? I've heard people rave on and on about the series, but I've read the first few (8-10 comics all together? the first two graphic novels, however they're structured) and I'm not seeing where they hype lies. Does it pick up at some point? I read from the beginning up through where Promethea goes across the river Styx looking for her fat friend. I'm struggling to continue mainly due to a lack of opposition/treat that needs to be dealt with. Promethea goes to the Temple's house, sees the birthday party and boom, the opposition fades completely away. Plus what little opposition she's faced so far didn't have any real personality. They just tossed a couple dozen enemies out there but they're all pretty generic, none stick. So far the main filler seems to be random astrology garbage.
7/16/2010 2:12:02 PM
Promethea is magical and golden. You are a soulless son of a bitch.[Edited on July 16, 2010 at 2:19 PM. Reason : Everyone else: BUY IT.]
7/16/2010 2:19:24 PM
Guess so. Because currently it's a boring Immateria travel log.
7/16/2010 2:48:18 PM
It's not so much a good comic as it is an entertaining indoctrination into magical thought, I guess.
7/16/2010 2:52:23 PM
The Absolute Edition of Promethea is one of the most gorgeous books I own. The artwork and coloring is spell-binding

Man. I never noticed this thread while I was in college :XI'm a current reader of Captain America, Thor, Iron Man, and Moon Knight. I'm interested to see what the current event (not an entire Marvel universe event, but a note-worthy one) - Shadowland - will be like. Anyone read that first issue yet? Also reading all of the Avengers that are out (New Avengers, Avengers, Avengers Prime, Secret Avengers). I can't stand Romita as an artist though, but the story is good enough for me to not be as picky. Secret Avengers would probably be my favorite of the lot.I was in town the week of the fourth, and wandered to the Ultimate Comics on 9th Street in Durham, and the new store had the back issues I was looking for - they tried to tell me it was on the way to the airport. Yeeeah right. If you're coming from Chapel Hill maybe!

Stuff n' Such in Cary Towne Center has like fifty million fucking old comics and shit.

my new favorites are Secret Avengers and The Thanos Imperative. Both are good readsmy weekly bag keeps growing and growing. Fuck MARVEL for making all their titles 3.99 I dropped Captain America after Siege but I kept Thor.also, The Boys is still my favorite ongoing series. Millar's new Nemesis series is pretty bad ass as well.Where are your Comic book stores?[Edited on July 17, 2010 at 2:08 PM. I have been reading and re-reading all of Chester Brown's 'Yummy Fur' series lately. Really really incredible stuff. His short-lived 'Underwater' series is pretty terrible though.

^Nice. I've been meaning to start that series. Gotta wait until I have $ to buy the whole series. If anyone wants to read some funny, entertaining hipster comics with tons of nudity and drugs, check out '120 days of simon' and 'hey princess' -- both published by top shelf. Both can be purchased on the cheap (along with tons of other great indie comics) at top shelf's $3 sale. I got like 6 books for about $20 (retail $60+)

for a little while now, ive been reading the TPBs of DC, ive caught up on most of the events (most of the crises). i prefered marvel when i was younger, but now i can only read the dc stuff i still like the fatal attractions and fall of the mutants etc..., but dc just seems to resonate better these daysis anyone else the same way?

Anybody read any of his manga? I found I had downloaded one of his works amongst on series of short stories and was intrigued because I don't read any horror/creepy material. I now have most of the stuff he's written and it's all really good. His best known works are 'Tomie' and 'Uzumaki' according to Wikipedia but check out his one-shot collections 'Museum of Terror' or 'Voices in the Dark' if you are interested. Don't download 'Gyo' because it has a lot of farting material..., seriously.
12/31/2010 10:41:26 AM
sucks about Capitol. I've been there once or twice. I get my stuff from Foundation's Edge though.

I didn't know a thing about Fantomex before picking up Uncanny X-Force #1. Now that I'm 4 issues in, I am extremely interested to learn more about this character. In a strange way, he reminds me a bit of Cable way back when he first appeared. I miss Cable.
1/29/2011 5:59:44 PM
wanted to bump this blast from the past. quick question for anyone that is a big comic book nerd. I've got a couple long flights coming up and i was thinking about picking up a graphic novel or perhaps a bound story line collection. Can anyone recommend something to check out? I already have Batman: TDKR and have read Watchmen and really enjoyed both. Heroes i like: Batman, Captain America, Iron Man, Avengers, X-Factor, Cable etc..

Batman: Long Halloween and Dark Victory.Final Crisis . which all DC
8/20/2014 8:46:06 PM
^^ Wow, damn. Another Cable fan? I'm shocked. I take it that you have read Blood and Metal? I am pretty certain that that is my #1 favorite limited series of all time. That and X-cutioner's Song are what ultimately got me into reading the X-books for years. Still to this date, I will read absolutely anything which has Cable in it.
8/20/2014 9:54:56 PM
weird. I almost bumped this thread yesterday. I just subscribed to Marvel Unlimited in the past week and I've been reading through classic Uncanny X-Men. Started with Phoenix Saga and just kept going but they're starting to get old. I'm new to comics and I'm open to anything. ^ I was a fan of Cable in the animated series. Should I start with Blood and Medal first?
8/20/2014 10:17:41 PM
I've been reading the GI Cobra series of graphic novels and absolutely love it.http://www.amazon.com/G-I-Joe-Christos-N-Gage/dp/1600105351
8/21/2014 5:08:11 PM
^^ Even after all these years, I'm still not completely sure where to tell people to start reading Cable. He has one of the most convoluted stories in all of Marvel comics. It took years before it was even revealed who he actually is. While Blood and Metal is probably his single best story, I'd actually start reading X-Force - but be forewarned that you're going deep into Liefeld territory. Read X-Force up until the X-Cutioner's Song crossover, and then read Blood and Metal. And if you are into it, then start reading the Cable series.Yeah, I can talk Cable alllllllllllllllll day...
