^use http://www.syprus.com/fah/sig/fahsig.php?user=Lego&bg=5sorry i spent an hour trying to figure out the issues with the daily average... had to do with the php code pulling the right info from the db... it's working now, but the daily average is calculated by taking your monthly score and dividing by 31, so it will take a month to sync up.[Edited on October 29, 2004 at 4:38 PM. DAMN IT! SABOTAGE! No wonder I was slipping on the totals. One of the research computing guys at my work did some work on a console of which I had it running and CHANGED the team number and user ID to his own
10/29/2004 6:19:24 PM
i figured something like that had happened... good luck with the F@H battle for resources.

so if you have a Hyper Threading processor, is it better to run 2 instances or just one, i've tried both , and don't really see a difference.
10/31/2004 2:54:36 PM
about to pass 800 pts per day... hehehehehe...
10/31/2004 3:57:25 PM
^^ if you run one console, check the cpu usage, usually even if you have it set to run at 100% the cpu usage for F@H on an HT is still only 60% of the total, so to max out your CPU, run two consoles, they will both run at 50% each typically, but you'll be finishing 2 consoles in a little more time than 1
10/31/2004 5:24:10 PM
i think the figure for two instances on HT, is around 15% gain... i never really "saw" it but i stick to it...btw... team is at 94[Edited on October 31, 2004 at 5:40 PM. Reason : ]

I'm trying to assimilate some of the machines in the schools where I work... Still trying to convince the powers that be on the idea, but it's going...
11/1/2004 9:31:40 AM
^Maybe ask to try it out on a few machines at first to be sure there are no problems. If that goes well, maybe then you can ramp up.
11/1/2004 10:13:25 AM
here's the team signature:http://www.syprus.com/fah/teamsig/fahsig.php?user=ProsperoLT (you just need any username at the end)

the daily avg colors have now been synced to the same as extremeOC's stats page... give it til the end of november before the numbers will be the same as extreme's, they are still playing catchup.again if you want a custom background, make an image that's 440 x 50, and send it to me via PM.i'll probably add some more ncsu custom backgrounds later today[Edited on November 1, 2004 at 2:43 PM. Remind me what the daily average field is again?
11/1/2004 9:36:23 PM
^Points/day It will take 1 month to be accurate.I updated http://www.genejockeys.com/Fold&Gene@Home to include some new info about banners etc.
11/1/2004 10:24:22 PM
sorry had to add one more, after getting marko's permissionhttp://www.syprus.com/fah/sig/fahsig.php?user=ProsperoLT&bg=marko

Are work units worth a lot more now? Today I will have put out about the same number of points for the month as the first month I started. However, in May it took my 46 WUs to get 2,000 pts. This month it has only taken me around 10....
11/2/2004 7:20:07 AM
^same formula, but i think the formula is junk personally, not to mention there have been multiple core updates since May, I was looking the other day at my first week stats too, I was starting at about 1,000 pts/week, now i am near 4,200 pts/week (but i've added some cpu's too)[Edited on November 2, 2004 at 9:17 AM. ^^The tinkers were re-valued several months back. So what you were getting 50-70pts for now you may get ~200-300pts for. They were severly under valued previously to the point that some people were specifically deleting them. It's much better now IMHO. Also as the project grows, CPU speed increases, Stanford can send out larger WUs.

ok, WTF!?!?!Date......Time....Pts.....WU11.02.....3pm.....275...15that's 18.3 per WU???????[Edited on November 2, 2004 at 9:19 PM. Reason : .]
11/2/2004 9:19:02 PM
ok, i've been doing soem research on the different cores (tinker, gromacs, double gromacs) i see that gromacs and double gromacs use SSE instructions if possible, and will complete considerably faster on an SSE enabeled chip. (20 - 30% faster) sry if this is old, but i'm wondering if anybody has heard of a program that will keep restarting FAH after you complete a WU untill you get a protien that uses the gromacs core. or how hard would it be to write a program to do this?
11/5/2004 12:53:22 PM
i can look for it later, but there are programs that will line up say 10 WU's in a row for you, not the same but should provide the same results... and i haven't used it yet, but will look for it
11/5/2004 1:03:26 PM
^^ All WU's are important to Stanford. Deleting WUs is not recommended and in the long run will slow progress of specific projects.
11/5/2004 2:01:53 PM
yeah, it's not for the points, it's for the cause... but whatever keeps you folding, fold
11/5/2004 2:10:01 PM
11/6/2004 12:37:49 PM
^ That maybe the case, but the problem with deleting WUs is that when Stanford assigns you a WU, and they have an expectation that it will be returned at least by the deadline and your WU is not assigned to anyone else. So Standford is waiting for a WU that will not get returned. Now clearly they are sending out 1,000s of the same WU, but if people start deleting them, it will slow the project down.Stanford does do some benchmarking to determine which WUs should be assigned, but I'm not clear on how involved it is. The bottomline is that Stanford does not endorse deleting WUs. I hope that helps. Maybe in the future they will do a better job of assigning WUs. Cheers.
