It's not so much an oversupply so much as an inability to change infrastructure overnight to accommodate an increase in retail demand. I mean there is an oversupply now just like every other food product that supplied restaurants, but milk is somewhat unique in that it can't be stored long term like meat and can't be delayed in harvesting like produce.

Not to mention that dairy plants don't give a shit if farmers are forced to dump milk because they'll still make their profits and let the farmers take all the losses and bad publicity.

It's hard to compare the pork/chicken industries with dairy because both of those are almost completely vertically integrated while dairy is very much not. Also the milk pricing system in the US is all kinds of fucked up and dumb, but that's a whole other topic. In conclusion, milk is getting dumped because retail processing is at capacity and all the milk that was for institutional use has nowhere to go and you can't just tell cows to stop making milk.

I think you may be mixing "think" with "say". Trump cares about what critics "say" about him yes but I similarly don't see how anyone can think Trump cares about what left-minded people "think" about policies which is what I said. Though, in hindsight I disagree with you about 2016. It may have seemed like shit-slinging but he consciously tapped into racial resentment AND real problems with inequality. Those two things overlapped quite a bit and he was able to win the votes of those who hate both candidates. The dynamics are far different in 2020. Polling has shown dramatically that between those who don’t really like either candidate, Trump isn’t winning that demo.

Yes because anytime I say anything that is about Trump having a coherent plan to energize his base it gets dismissed as "Trump support" or "trolling" by the two most powerful users who also won't tolerate any discussion outside the premise that Trump doesn't know what he's doing. That means I either spell it out clearly to make it obvious or leave it not-so-obvious where they can twist the context.

NYM comes in behind my posts quoting one part out of context to try to make me seem like a trump supporter saying something ridiculous, adding something Earl said, mixing the two together while calling me Earl. This strategy prevents the "obvious" implication of my post from being discussed.

I'm sure it confuses a lot of people especially the ones who take their advice of not actually reading my posts. All they read are the quotes taken out of context and mixed with distractions about Earl. No one else will say anything about it because they don't think its worth getting canceled on this site.

an intelligent, and generally caring, giving individual that i've highly respected in many aspects of life... like me in most demographics - white, straight, male, middle of the road, Christian (not pretending here that i'm any sort of saint), conservative

what's the difference?
conditioning. and lots of it. years of being told, and to be honest it's not completely false, that the majority of mainstream news outlets are liberal, fake news, anti-Christian, and so on. but so much so that they effectively shut off almost any source of information outside of fox "news", trump in this case, or the rest of the GOP establishment.

it's incredibly frustrating - to the point that it has pretty severely damaged our relationship in certain ways. and it definitely sucks because nobody's getting any younger. no amount of talking, arguing, data, direct quotes from trump himself - has made any difference
