I saw him at the spring game yesterday with a NCSU Bball shirt on. He seems like a good guy, but he cannot run an offense. The only issue with him at the 2 is that next year I think we'll see Wood, Brown and CJ Williams all getting minutes there. Not sure how much Mays would get.
4/18/2010 8:12:27 PM
i wish javi would transfer instead of mays
4/18/2010 8:19:15 PM
^Um, no.Javi isn't great, but he's twice the player Mays is.
4/18/2010 8:22:51 PM
i hope Mays transfers he is a terrible liability on the court and I fear he would steal minutes from Harrow, CJ Williams, and Brown. He is a terrible ACC player and we will be better off without him.Good luck man, but seriously please leave.

Javi is one of the reasons we are expected to finish top 4-5 in the ACC next year.If Javi were to transfer we'd struggle to go .500 in the ACC.No one who is being serious wants him to transfer unless he is fucking their girlfriend.
4/18/2010 8:37:42 PM
We are expected to finish in the top 4 of the conference next year?
4/18/2010 8:48:11 PM
i agree that Mays probably won't see much PT... but i always thought him and Wood would stick together.guess we'll see if anything official comes out :-|

Got back from the Jordan Brand this morning. A few thoughts:1) Sitting on the baseline with a camera at MSG is one of the coolest things the coolest thing my job has let me do yet.2) Hearing some of the comments by the players on the court is pretty funny.3) Y'all are right about the uniforms. They were hideous. 4) Kyrie Irving can absolutely take over a game and is going to be a dominant ACC guard.5) I got to interview the east team's coach, Greg Wise. You know, this guy: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=reilly_rick&id=4977305 Had I never read that column, I'd never have guessed he was that type of coach. Seemed cool in the post-game interview. 6) Leslie is really, really good, and seeing him up close just made me want to see him here all that much more.I interviewed him for about five minutes or so after the game before he had to go into the locker room (we weren't allowed in the locker room itself). He was very non-committal in his answers about his destination, but he did explicitly say he hadn't made up his mind yet. I asked if there was a front-runner, and he said no (not like he'd say anything else until it's time to sign, but take that for what it's worth). He was happy to talk about the recruiting process, but he has gotten good at dodging specific questions about his eventual whereabouts. I asked if he was going to take any more visits, and his answer was along the lines of "we'll see." I came away from the interview very impressed with him. As a side note, I'm also impressed with the way Harrison Barnes, Irving and Reggie Bullock carry themselves.I'll throw up a few photos sometime tomorrow if I have time.

if Mays leaves, our 2008 crop officially becomes a wasted class

we've known that for a while, though.

The best thing Mays has done since he's been here is letting us out when we were leaving the spring game yesterday. Allowing us to go in front of him leaving the parking lot was the nicest thing I could say about him since his play on the court has been so bad.Javi pushes it some and makes some dumb turnovers, but that is because he's being forced into playing the starting PG position in the ACC. Mays just doesn't do anything. Sidney only puts him in to slow down the pace of the game, and with Harrow and Brown in next year we won't have to worry about counteracting Javi's decision making since he'll be the back up.

mays still picks up his dribble about 3 steps after he passes half court when he brings it up the floor. makes me every time. i don't like to see people transfer out of the program, but it's pretty clear mays is better fit for playing the 2. if he doesn't think he'll get playing time at that position, i can see why he'd want to move on. i had really high hopes for a mays/wood dynamic offense like they had in high school.
4/18/2010 10:06:22 PM
^^ this past season he averaged 18.5 minutes, 1.1 turnovers and 1.8 fouls.clearly, this is a man who fouls and/or forces a turnover every time he touches the ball.[Edited on April 18, 2010 at 10:07 PM. Reason : ^]
4/18/2010 10:06:42 PM
Mays actually doesn't turn it over that much, mainly because he never -- and I mean NEVER -- tries to make a play. It's not really his fault though -- he doesn't have the speed or quickness to penetrate, and he's too short to get his shot off most of the time.Javi does some dumb things, but at least he tries to make things happen. Sometimes they work, sometimes they don't, but it sure beats the hell out of watching Mays run the offense.
4/18/2010 10:08:50 PM
Mays' A/T ratio is only marginally better than Javi's (1.4/1 compared to 1.2/1) but Javi is a much better distributor, scorer and defender than Mays.
4/18/2010 10:16:14 PM
Mays makes less stupid mistakes but makes far less plays there is a reason why Javi was starting. How about we hope that we lose neither of them???
4/18/2010 10:20:17 PM
4/18/2010 10:26:05 PM
i like how you guys are trashing one of our own players in a RECRUITING threadreal classyits cool though, its not like ryan harrow has come out and said recruits read these boards or anything
4/18/2010 10:26:59 PM
Mays doesn't help us out that much. He doesn't hurt us that much either...but we honestly get no benefit of having him on our team unless Javi is hurt or in foul trouble (and I think Javi is garbage...but at least he's serviceable). So with Harrow coming in...Mays pretty much becomes useless. IF Javi and Harrow stay healthy...then this doesn't hurt us at all. If Harrow and/or Javi get hurt next year...then this would suck. But honestly...if we have to rely on Mays for big minutes, then we're fucked anyways (Javi was our starting guard and we didn't sniff the tourney). So fuck it. Good luck to him. And hopefully we can use his scholly on a productive player in the upcoming years.

Mays is not transferring. just speculation. never mind me, Mr. Leslie. I'm the village idiot. don't believe anything i post. please come to NC State[Edited on April 18, 2010 at 10:37 PM. Reason : c]

What saps852 said.If Mays is going to transfer, then fine, but there's no need to use his rumored departure as motivation for running him down.[Edited on April 18, 2010 at 10:34 PM. Reason : asdf]

If Mays is gone, I hope he finds a good place for his talent. He could only be as good as his physical ability let him be and he seemed to try to make it work. He just couldn't. He was at least consistent in what he offered, which is more than I can say for Javi. Yea, he probably wouldn't have played much next year but we're going to need to find someone for 2011 now.
4/18/2010 10:36:08 PM
In the college game, you don't need physical ability to play well. Just be ready to hit open shots when people double team or collapse on your good players. Most important basketball skill is shooting. The #1 thing any player should focus on is shooting. Javi, CJ, Mays, Tracy, Painter, Howell, etc could all help our team tremendously if they could hit open jumpers appropriate for their positions (15 feet and in for frontcourt, 3s for back court)All those crazy upsets in the tourney were due to teams shooting well from all positions. Shooting makes up for lack of talent. Shooting + talent is unstoppable.

4/19/2010 2:35:57 PM
Yeah there is no way thats a legitimate NCSU fan. I could see it being a UNC or ECU fan.

It's like saying"Trust me UKen, we don't want anything to do with..."It's bogus, we move on.

Then we should stoop to their level. Somebody do the same and pose as a UK fan.

i'm sure it's been done. it's not as if ncsu fans are saints. i'm sure fans from all schools do that, it's not limited to kentucky, unc, or ecu.
