and you don't think government officials could use that list later to determine who has guns?
10/1/2012 3:42:54 PM
=/= registering guns.
10/1/2012 3:43:38 PM
I thought you got the answer you needed Bullet?
10/1/2012 3:44:48 PM
pistol permits are jim crow leftovers. and no, they aren't registration (in the form of current firearm registration), though I'd like to see them go away, since you could argue that it is some form of registration (though that still isn't the correct word). PPPs don't list specific firearms or latest addresses. And the paper trail stops when CCH holders purchase pistols. Using PPPs to "track down" firearm owners would be a long and muddied process, though it would lead the government to many firearm owners; though it still wouldn't be tracking down the actual firearm in many cases.PPPs came about so that sheriffs could legally deny firearm ownership to law abiding minorities, whose rights were protected under federal and state constitutions. If we're talking about the government coming in to confiscate legally held firearms, then either the government has thrown away some/most/all of our constitutional rights; or there has been a massive change in legislation/the constitution/court opinions that most people would disagree with. In either case, I see armed rebellion as a very possible reaction. /tin hat[Edited on October 1, 2012 at 3:56 PM. Reason : .]

^^some of the comments generated some more questions. is that ok with you man?^^^i get that it's not a formal "registration", it just seems that it could be kept and used later to determine who has guns, which is basically registration.i appreciate the info

Other than PDHSC in garner, anyone recommend a gunsmith shop?
10/4/2012 10:52:38 PM
To trade or not to trade..... that is questions. I hate to get rid of anything but this would be a good trade on my end.
10/4/2012 11:11:48 PM
Depending on what you are trading, you can always get another one...So if the trade is in your favor, why not.

Hmm, maybe I'll start a 'shooting' thread. Mighty quiet around here now.

How about a thread that tells me where I can go and run around and shoot steel.

Nice video. What type of sling are you running? I want to ditch my one point for a VCAS or VTAC. [Edited on October 6, 2012 at 2:53 AM. Reason : ...]
10/6/2012 2:32:29 AM
^^You gotta pay a hefty price to shoot on that range. ^It's just an M249 sling. I don't buy into all that adjustable stuff, simply because I never utilize it properly.

So Friday I gave Kel Tec one last phone call to get my Sub 2k fixed before heading to a local shop. Basically, the barrel is "free floating" instead of fixed and rotates since the glue bonding it to the inside of the front/forward receiver has failed. To resolve this, you tap and pin the barrel, holding it in place permanently. Talked to Chad at KT and he said it was no problem; just UPS/FEDEX the gun to them with a note explaining the work/repair needed along with a copy of the shipping cost and they'll have me fixed up. He said they'll also reimburse my shipping cost. Unfortunately, turn around time is estimated 6-8 weeks. BUT, this will be a permanent warranty fix, at hopefully no cost to me. Just got the new front sight in too. I'll report back in a month or so. But, just FYI. If ever you have a warranty issue with Kel Tec, just ship the firearm to them with a letter stating what's wrong along with a copy of the shipping receipt for reimbursement. There's no RMA process. It seems like it'll be hard to track the progress/status of the repair, but that's what I was told to do in the future. Searching old forums, others have had promising results with this system of operation. I hope the same holds true for me today.[Edited on October 8, 2012 at 10:16 PM. ^ get used it...I've been trying to sell my PPK/S for a week and have had lots of offers but everyone just gives me the creeps. As a suggestion, list it for $50 more than what you want, because the standard offer seems to be $50 less than what's listed, regardless of what's listed.
10/9/2012 12:02:55 AM
^^^ Yeah... Kel Tec used red loctite thinking that it would hold. They were wrong. So when they found out, they starting pinning them instead. Nothing wrong with the gun aside from the barrel needing to be seated/secured. Aside from my time (and an initial shipping investment which I hope to see reimbursed), the repair is free and 100% effective. I don't need the rifle right now, but I'd like to have it before the end of the year, you know, just in case [Edited on October 9, 2012 at 1:15 AM. Reason : .]

Is this your first time on this thread? This thread is dying. People only want to talk about guns, they have bought or will want to buy. Occasionally there is a serious discussion about reloading, or ranges, or hunting rifles. But by and large, no one ever really engages anyone. It's more like a gun blog for everyone.
10/10/2012 11:18:43 PM
It's not dying it's just saturated. Every once in a while it'll pop back to the top of everyone's My Topics and occasionally it'll be worth some new discussion. In the meantime, throw us new(er) guys a bone ya old fart
10/11/2012 1:34:36 AM
anyone know of a decent range near wilmington? moving down there early next year.
10/11/2012 7:33:27 AM
Any reason to not get the SWFA 10x scope? Main purpose will be precision .223 (on top of the Ranier 18" custom upper I am saving for), more punching paper than anything else, maybe some varmit hunting if I feel like it. Seems like a good option for the price.
10/11/2012 8:26:00 PM
I've only heard good things about them, but never handled one.
10/11/2012 8:34:41 PM
SS 10x's are always what comes up on snipercentral for the perfect budget tactical scope, however I sure would like some options on my scopes rather than a fixed 10x. Try Mueller APT. GREAT scope for the same money, and its a 4-12 (more options). However it is larger.
10/11/2012 8:43:44 PM
The ss scopes are nice but I wouldn't want to limit myself to 10x. Fixed power is good for simplicity/durability/repeatability but it would really suck trying to pick up a target at closer distances. Lots of people use fixed 10x just fine but personally I'd go variable or 6x42mm.
10/12/2012 12:11:50 AM
also, in regards to varmint hunting, depending on the size of the varmint, range, and hunting style (calling coyotes vs. prairie dogs off a bench, etc.), 10x wouldn't be enough imo
10/12/2012 7:43:03 AM
The varmit hunting isn't something I really want to factor into the scope choice, it is more of a "hey I might shoot some squirrels as well (or foxes, coons, etc)" but I want to focus the choice on more of distance shooting and just punching paper (realistically max of 500 yards given my range availability)The main reason I am leaning fixed 10x is I feel that I can get higher quality glass at a cheaper price, whereas a quality variable scope is $texas. That of course is just my assumption, I admiditally don't know shit about optics.
10/12/2012 8:08:10 AM
i've always found optics to be a case of diminishing returns.
10/12/2012 8:53:08 AM
where do you think the sweet spot is for optics NRR?
10/12/2012 10:20:13 AM
it's not that simple
