WTF Trump right now about angry media and filling seats

I'm mainly just listening to Birx as the interpreter instead of Trump because she's the expert. I suggest you guys try to do the same. She talked about how each State has its own curve and needs its own policy and thats why you don't shut down the whole country. She's saying you don't need a national policies but 50 policies at the state level. She says that distancing policies may need only be applied to individual zip codes and even individual risk groups. She said that we shouldn't focus on cases and should only be looking at death rates and that just because we open back up doesn't mean you're bringing the at-risk back out nor are you opening up the hottest hot zones to life as usual. She said that once we go back its not like distancing goes away because now everyones going to be avoiding surfaces, avoiding contact and washing their hands frequently which still curbs the spread.[Edited on March 23, 2020 at 7:34 PM. So the governors in the most densely populated states will just ignore his guidance. Obviously. They actually care about their constituents. Cuomo, Pritzler, DeWine or Baker don’t give a damn what a moron carnival barker thinks. The only question is how Trump reacts when he is summarily ignored. I guess he can threaten to withhold federal grants or funding?https://twitter.com/yashar/status/1242244925837565952?s=21Newsom obviously is correct and why paying too much attn to Trumps rambling is counterproductive. The federal govt response is important in terms of supplies and aid but far less so with quarantine and closure guidance.[Edited on March 23, 2020 at 8:23 PM. Reason : Forgot Newsom]

I mean, if you’re a governor you have a vested interest in securing as much aid as you can for your state. We’ve never witnessed as fragile a shell of a man as POTUS before so I totally get the need to massage the ego a bit.But you’ll see major pushback at all costs next week. I actually get Trumps POV. It’s reptilian self-preservation and because he doesn’t care about anything but himself he sees no collateral damage.Earl is smart enough to know that epidemiologists everywhere have said there is a 7-14 lag between a localized outbreak and numbers looking like an outbreak. And that any move to reduce social distancing, even in encouragement only, could be potentially catastrophic for an already close to overwhelmed healthcare system.[Edited on March 24, 2020 at 7:02 AM. Don't listen to Trump in a literal way. He always speaks in hyperbole and bombast and says things that end up being interpreted in a way that doesn't represent policy. The USA is not Europe and its not even NYC. The spread rate is density-dependent. Do you think Dr. Birx is lying to fit Trump's narrative or the other way around? Most of the country has little to no cases and no community spread. You are correct about the lag time but getting back to work in Wichita, Kansas is not going to make the situation in NYC advance further. People getting sick in Kansas aren't going to go to a hospital in NYC either. From the way Dr. Birx explained it, every locality has its own curve and you can wait until there is sustained community spread before putting in more strict social distancing. You won't go from no community spread at all to instantly overwhelmed hospitals. A lot of people have misinterpreted things in the opposite direction too. They think we can eliminate the virus by shutting down the economy. As if the virus is Jason and only attacks when non-essential activity is taking place. The virus spread is inevitable and distancing only slows it down. People are under the impression that if everyone listens, things will be back to normal in two weeks when its literally the opposite true. If no one listened, everyone would get it, the hospitals would be overwhelmed, and things would get back to normal weeks later. Staying locked down for a year waiting on a vaccine is just as ridiculous. The happy medium is to have enough activity and allow it to spread to where hospitals are almost full, but not overwhelmed. When you see a spike in a local area, get it under control then go back. This strategy was in the imperial study.I wonder if people realized that the flatter curve goes on for a much, much longer time, if they would still be as enthusiastic about it. You will say its anecdotal but people have several facebook posts floating around that they are the kid in kindergarden waiting for everyone to get in line and "if everyone would just stay home, this whole thing would be over soon."[Edited on March 24, 2020 at 10:26 AM. not credible
3/24/2020 10:15:01 AM
^^ yes they realize that and are okay with it. that's why it is flatten the curve, not reducing the overall area of the curve. literally every image I've seen of flatten the curve, which shows up multiple times a day across many different mediums, has the length extended when flattened.
3/24/2020 10:30:08 AM
The alternative, something like herd immunity or the “red” on the chart is literally what Boris Johnson had to back off of because death projections were catastrophic.Birx and Earl are right in that each sector (for lack of a better word) will have its own peak and decline. The problem is there is no good way to accurately gauge when that is because testing disparity is so high between states.I have some sympathy and understand the need to open back up the economy but it’s OBVIOUS he is going against his own health experts here. They literally have said as much. Not to mention, his abysmally slow reaction to the entire situation gives me no hope he is doing this for any reason but his own self-preservation.[Edited on March 24, 2020 at 10:36 AM. Reason : X]

^^O yeah no doubt the graph SHOWS it. What I'm saying is that the vast majority of people out there either overlook the x axis or don't understand two dimensional graphs or don't think that the x axis represents time even though its labeled. I know that sounds mind-blowing at first but I get tons of high school and college students who make me have to rewind and teach how graphs work every year.^He's going against fauci because "if it was up to them, we would shut down the whole world for a year"Birx talked about using the death rates to gauge peaks and valleys[Edited on March 24, 2020 at 10:38 AM. I put it in quotes meaning it was his words and not "truth". I just stated that you shouldn't take what he says literally. Listen to Cuomo talking right now. AFAIC, he's the top politician anyone should be listening to if they're looking for a leader.
3/24/2020 11:25:30 AM
Pretty concerning what he got up to at the mic without Fauci there. Hopefully less of that in the future, but I have low expectations.
3/24/2020 11:28:40 AM
^^ agree about Cuomo but man that was bleak.Anyhow, pushback on Trump from Cruz, Liz Cheney and Lindsey Graham. And many more from inside his party. The numbers we’ll see in the next week will likely make it near impossible for Trump to get his way anyway, I fear.

When asked about a G20 proposal to hold off on all tariffs and sanctions, Trump went on a rant about progress building the wall and how people might be going around the wall but at least its a long trip. Then he moved to another question before the puzzled journalist got a chance to tell him that had nothing to do with the question.

Likely about to be widespread.Bay Area and Seattle responses need to be implemented in any area that has yet to reach the mitigation stage. It’s unfathomable that large cities like Atlanta and Dallas have really not implemented these yet.

The media keeps saying the US is the hardest hit country and thats just a lie. Maybe it will be at the end but right now its far from it. Last time I checked we were on par with sweden. Surely, they understand we have a much larger population but continue to cram how we have more cases than any other country. Spain, Italy, and Switzerland have 4 times as many cases per capita. Switzerland has 7 times the rate of deeath, 20x for spain and 25x for Italy. Its such a blatant lie for the media to try to act like its worse here.[Edited on March 29, 2020 at 12:53 PM. Trumps bump in favorability shows a real story. The country doesn’t think he is handling it well. He’s bump is like anywhere from +1 to +4. Compare that to Cuomo (+52!!!), Roy Cooper (+31), Whitmer (+30), DeWine (a lot— number was hard to pin down). The bi-partisan bump is real, just not for Trump.
3/30/2020 8:12:41 AM
^^^^^That's a genius move by Trump btw. He came up with this arbitrary date to get the country open again. It was obviously never going to happen in the first place. But now, he can stand up there and say "Hey, look what I did, it was great. I waited until 4/30 and saved a bunch of lives."
