anybody recommend a case for the GSM GNex? I've dropped it a couple of times (good thing on carpetted areas so far) because its a bit clunky to handle. I understand its not the same size as the LTE GNex because of the extended battery?
9/7/2012 11:12:10 AM
I have an LTE and I have this:http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Flexible-Protector-SCH-i515-Packaging/dp/B0065PGWQ0Works on regular & extended battery, I don't see why the case wouldn't work on GSM too. The extended battery isn't any different between the two.

I actually just caught up with this thread and I'll throw my vote in for the GNex. I followed the rumors, watched the keynote, blasted my friends on VZW and still bought it on contract well into its lifecycle when it finally arrived at Sprint. Mainly because of the $40.00 Gwallet promo and a 75.00 service credit that was expiring the day after preorders.By then I had already sold my Evo3D and bought a Nexus S for like 70 bucks on eBay to try out ICS and NFC Tags. I'm all for the Google Experience, but the toroplus hasn't been supported in AOSP since day one and it probably never will be. If I wanted JB asap I have to resort to kangs/ports just as if I had bought whatever non-developer device the community had jumped on that year. eg. OG Evo4G, GS III.A bunch of rambling and superfluous information there, but if you truly want a developer device don't expect one from a CDMA carrier.

New AOSP ICS from Liquid for the Thunderbolthttp://www.droid-life.com/2012/09/10/ice-cream-sandwich-arrives-for-thunderbolt-in-form-of-liquidsmooth-rom/

^ i threw it on the bolt sunday night when the thread was made...it's sooooooooooo much better than the leak...zippy, great battery life, less than 100MB in other news, the acer iconia A500 arrived today and i just played around with it at lunch long enough to get the ICS OTA update...and so begins my questions:1.) is there any good reason to root an android tablet? debloating, maybe, and access to titanium/nandroid backups, but anything else?2.) are there any "must have" android tablet apps?3.) recommendations for a note-taking app? handwriting-to-text would be great, but not necessary4.) related to the question above, how bad are these capacitive screens for writing? i haven't picked up a stylus, yet, but the capacitive tips are so big that i imagine it's like writing with a jumbo marker or something

Was really hoping the new iPhone was going to have NFC, solely so it would potentially push some more retailers etc to get some mobile payment capability moving.
9/12/2012 3:52:48 PM
I cracked the screen on my DRMaxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Still works though... just annoying.
9/12/2012 3:55:24 PM
iPhone 5 has the headphone jack on the bottom of their phone, Samsung should sue.
9/12/2012 6:40:23 PM
iPod Touch has always had the headphone jack at the bottom though.

I went with the dynaflow liquid armor for my gnex and it works pretty well. I got a pretty sweet battery from a company called hyperion. $18 shipped for 3850mAh. I get 5 days of battery life.pro tip - on the nexus or a rom stripped of carrier spyware, uninstall the facebook app and just create a shortcut to the bookmark on the homepage. 95% of the functionality (no notifications) but 25% of the memory and it saves a ton of battery since it's not spying on you all the time.

Thinking of getting an S3 instead of the iPhone 5. What's everyone think?
9/13/2012 9:23:50 AM
fwiw even my wife (not phone-saavy by her own admission) was underwhelmed by the iphone5 specs and wants a look at my s3 when it comes in tomorrow. yesterday morning, she was leaning hard to iphone5 but now, not so much.

^^^dropped it on some gravel and I'm guessing it landed right on the point of a rock such that only that small area received the entire blow. Then later that night I dropped it on a tile floor and it landed on one of the phone's corners and it cracked even more.I've dropped this thing hundreds of times and nothing happened to it, not even a scratch. I do believe this glass is tough, but a 5' drop onto a small point is probably too much for it And they appear only to be surface cracks. No discoloration, no malfunctioning, etc. (I can press as hard as I can on the cracks and there is no movement/wokiness on the screen).

Been more than happy with my Verizon GSIII. Even more so now since the bootloader was unlocked.

Battery life is my biggest concern. I'll pick up a couple extra batteries. Any good batteries you recommend? Or OEM ones are fine?Anyone tried the Mugen 2300mAh?http://www.mugen-power-batteries.com/mugen-power-2300mah-extended-battery-for-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-i9300-atandt-samsung-galaxy-s-iii-1747.html#Eh guess the actual Samsung one is 2100mAh. Think i'm going to pick up an S3. Have 30 days to return it. [Edited on September 13, 2012 at 10:34 AM. Reason : s]

So wow. Went from the stock keyboard on the s3 to SwiftKey keyboard big difference. I think it's much faster than swype.
9/14/2012 2:08:22 AM
^^^ If you plan on changing the rom, gs3 but if you want to leave it alone but want actual updates and a phone not laden with bloatware, I'd go for the nexus. also, this company's battery is legithttp://www.amazon.com/Hyperion-Extended-Compatible-GT-i9300-T-mobile/dp/B008GWIVTQ/ref=sr_1_1?s=mobile&ie=UTF8&qid=1347621191&sr=1-1&keywords=hyperion+galaxy+s3+extended+batteryI have the 3800mAh one for my nexus and i get 5 DAYS of battery life
9/14/2012 7:14:04 AM
Ended up picking up a gs3. It's pretty awesome. The bloatware isn't too bad. Have 30 days to play with it for a no restocking fee return at bestbuy.

i was about to purchase the Razr Maxx and then I saw that they are preparing to release a "razr maxx hd" which is supposed to be much improved and matching the gs3 in hardware but still have the battery life of the razr. cannot find a release date tho so i dont know if i want to wait or not.anybody have any inside information on the HD versions?
9/15/2012 12:35:53 PM
What's best brightness control app for the SG3? The default automatic brightness settings is horrible. It sets it close to zero when inside. I'm trying Lux and it seems to work great.

A five inch screen is retarded.Seriously.You need that as much as you need a 350 turbo diesel 4x4 pickup truck to drive to school.
9/17/2012 10:54:56 PM
I don't know if a 5" screen is too big, but you really can't go much bigger than that without it basically being a tablet
9/17/2012 11:22:07 PM
to be fair, it's not ACTUALLY 5 inches...sure, it's 4.8" and that's CLOSE, but it's not the same thing (and when we're comparing numbers this small and on the diagonal, it matters)that said, i also think it's too big...my thunderbolt's screen is 4.3" and i love it...whenever i see one of the smaller screens (like the 3.5" on the iphone 4), it looks and feels virtually unusable, but i don't know that i want anything bigger than what i've gotthough, really, it's less than a 12% increase, so maybe it wouldn't be TOO bad...coming from one of those tiny, dinky screens, though, it's more than a 37% increase

tiny t-rex hands
9/18/2012 8:54:32 AM
now Samsung is downplaying rumors of the 5 inch S4....I guess they realized t-rex hands would be a problem. I wouldn't mind a 5 inch phone since I use my phone more for web browsing and texting than calls.http://news.cnet.com/8301-1035_3-57514827-94/samsung-downplays-rumors-of-galaxy-s4-for-early-2013/
9/18/2012 8:10:46 PM
^ they're just saying it's not coming out in march 2013, not that it won't be 4.8"

I've been running AOKP JellyBean build 2 on my HTC One X for about a day now. Seems perfectly usable so far and his a huge improvement over the stock Sense cluster fuck, especially for multitasking. Would highly recommend if you've got a rooted/unlocked HTC One X.

just silly things but since last post, i got it working through a lot more effort than my last phone. i would get a crash (com.android.phone has stopped working) when i tried to change from my carrier to google voice. i tried to trick it by going to main site and deactivating and reactivating, no dice. the closest i got was my phone would do the ~24 seconds of ringing, followed by a rustling clicking sound, then more ringing so it was call forwarding like whoa. the vm recording was the google one, but it 1) read out my google voice number and not my personal recording and 2) showed up nowhere. google results are a hodgepodge of "this is what i did" blah blah blah so i just ran the the steps in somewhat different orders. good to go
9/20/2012 9:58:57 PM
Ah see I use my own number for personal and my GV number for business. I just installed the app and didn't need to switch anything. The phone always me to choose which number I call from.
