Is driving a motorcycle on a track called "dragging a knee"? As in "hey, lets go drag a knee this weekend"?

motorcycles are about as boring as Nascar. ride a real bike. So you're saying I should wait and not get the D90? Because sensor technology has come a long way in 2 years? That's what I was thinking. I have no objection to trying out Canon but I've always been a Nikon fan and have access to Nikon lenses from a variety of sources.

It would be nice if either canon or nikon can make a nice 8mp full frame body for less than 1k with video. plz....That way I can strap as many as I can fit on my bike or gunship... lol
8/25/2010 12:25:53 PM
sometimes i wonder how much is "can't" and how much is "won't"but then everyone always wants better, faster, and cheaper, so...
8/25/2010 12:45:46 PM
How much better is the D90/D300s sensor (I think they're the same) at high ISO than the 10mp CCD sensor on the d3000? I've been very disappointed about the image quality...even at 400 on the D3000. If you need 800 for an action shot its not even worth taking it, even with the cs5 noise reduction and right now I cant afford a longer lens with a bigger aperture.

200mmf/4.51/250hand held...
8/25/2010 6:07:34 PM
hand holding a 200mm with 1/250 isn't impressive, come back to me when you can do it at 1/25 while eating a burrito, been up for two day's and had 8 cups of coffee...

wasn't trying to impress... It was a little difficult for me to get a non-blurry one, but shit man I'm an amature.

very cool, now you just need to get closer and figure out how to control exposure with one button. :pI like the first series of shots, looks like he's surfing on top of buildings.

I've got plans to put more holes in it so I can have access to some of the buttons on the back. The big thing I need to work on is tightening all the screws so it doesn't get water in it. Currently the camera is drying and hopefully will come back to life. I left one of the screws slightly loose when I went out in the afternoon and there was slight water intrusion.
8/30/2010 7:05:27 PM
What? no kiwi crop? Sorry to hear about the little water mishap, hope it comes to life too. Good thing its not to expensive, I've seen D40 bodies around 200ish. Shit a friend picked up an old xti with kit lens for 125, had a minor scratch on the rear lcd that was so minor that I told him that he would be stupid to not take it.
8/31/2010 11:16:07 AM
Well after 2 days sitting in dry rice it still won't turn on. If you know of any one selling a D40 body let me know, I'd gladly buy it.I managed to find a full dissemblely and reassembly manual online so I might try that. As far as I can tell it is a brick now anyway. I just wish I managed to tighten everything up. The case would have worked then
8/31/2010 9:32:23 PM
just be glad it's not expensive. If I had my 5D rigged to my motorcycle when I was on the race track last weekend, that would have really sucked since I wrecked. heheI basically got back to the garage and the first thing that came out of my mouth was "good thing I didn't rig the camera to the back again".
9/1/2010 2:46:17 AM
yeah but it's only a 5D. It's alright to strap mid-range cameras to fast moving vehicles. D7000 needs to get announced all ready so I don't half ass it and get a D3100.
9/1/2010 9:02:28 AM
It's still worth more than what I paid for the motorcycle... lol
9/1/2010 12:06:31 PM
nice.
9/1/2010 12:11:04 PM
^^^Why don't you not half ass it right now and get a D90 or a D300 since the 7000 sounds like it will be something in between those. They're not the same class IMO/IIRC. [Edited on September 1, 2010 at 1:46 PM. Reason : ]
9/1/2010 1:45:55 PM
^you joking? The d90 and the D300 are 2+ years old and outdated. ISO and especially the video are going to be much better on the D3100 and D7000. I can't justify spending this much money on old technology.
9/1/2010 2:30:39 PM
the 5DmkII is almost 2 years old, it's still badass... Shit my 30D is what 5 years old now? it still works great and takes awesome pics. Used it once in the past 2 years when I went to deals gap since I wanted something small to use as a happy snap since I don't have a real happy snap.
9/1/2010 3:19:41 PM
Yeah but I'm a gadget guy and I always get the latest and greatest. If you compare 2+ year old DSLRs to current ones in terms of ISO range it's crazy. Not to mention video capabilities. Like the D300/D90 has what? 6400 expanded ISO? The much cheaper D3100 is going to have 12,800+ as well as the D7000.
9/1/2010 3:27:39 PM
my 5DmkII is still king. And I have no knowledge bout anything Nikon anymore... So my lack of argument sucks.

Did a 70 mile hike in Glacier last week got a few good shots. Got lucky and caught a storm forming right at sunset over Fifty Mtn; produced some of the best light I have ever seen.
9/1/2010 5:32:24 PM
what is that shot with?
9/1/2010 5:34:22 PM
I like your panos, but wished they were wider field of view to show more of the area.
9/1/2010 5:38:30 PM
Two of the shots are panos stitched with photoshop. All were shot with a d300 and 18-200mm^Jbaz I shot them all hand held at 18mm. I thought the same thing when I stitched them together. Could I do a two level pano (lack of better word)?[Edited on September 1, 2010 at 5:43 PM. Reason : .][Edited on September 1, 2010 at 5:50 PM. Reason : .]
9/1/2010 5:38:50 PM
if you do pano stiches, it's a good idea to shoot vertically so you can capture more height to retain more land and sky. Once you start getting into crazy pano's of more than 5 pics or so, just to correct the perspective, you end up loosing image height really fast, unless you shot in rows.
9/1/2010 5:44:19 PM
^ Yea shot vertically, may try rows next time but Im not sure if I can do it handheld.
9/1/2010 5:47:55 PM
9/1/2010 5:54:21 PM
Didn't you hear, that's Canon just used the advanced "Van Gogh" noise reduction filter for their H1 and H2 settings. Btw, I rarely ever go above ISO3200, maybe 6400 a few times, but most stuff I shoot will be with flash so mostly shoot in the ISO50-400 range. Ambient mostly around the 100-1600 range. If I need more light then what the night is giving me, I'll bring a tripod. I don't shoot night stuff or paparazzi stuff either.[Edited on September 1, 2010 at 6:21 PM. Reason : ]
9/1/2010 6:19:09 PM
^yeah I figured. It all comes down to what you shoot.
9/1/2010 7:14:36 PM
Show us some of your night vision photos where you required ISO 85,000
9/1/2010 7:23:28 PM
I've shot tons of nightlife stuff and honestly never went past 1000 iso ever... Drag your shutter to get ambient with a flash and your golden. Personally I can't shoot without a flash because it gives me so much more control then what I have to muster with ambient. Shit, I've been happy with shooting with my 30D back in the day and still got clean pictures. Besides, for most club/bars/concert pics, 99% of the time you pics will be downsized for web use so no matter how nice or clean the pics are at 100%, web size will never show it.Honestly, that photo above could have been accomplished with a much slower shutter speed like 1/250 or even 1/125, shit maybe slower if the bird doesn't move a lot and you and keep the supertele still. High ISO is nothing more than bragging rights, sure it's neat, but I'd say 90% of photographers are never going to use that feature more than a few times. When the D3 first came out and was shooting NHL, some dumbass photographer for a local paper up in philly saw one of the getty shooters had it and was like "you should only be shooting at ISO 6400" disregarding the fact the shooter used strobes and shot at ISO 100 at the arena... If you get the shot, it doesn't matter how you shot it or created it.[Edited on September 1, 2010 at 8:17 PM. Reason : ]
