If there's not a men's clothing and a women's clothing section I'm sure as hell going to be confused about what section of the store I should shop at.

If this is just about toys and bedding I agree. There is no need for gendered toys. Girls will always be more likely to enjoy dolls but no need to label them girl's toys. Just let kids play with what they want.

But if you're talking about removing signage that is put up for convenience and navigation I think it would be ridiculous to remove it.

I'm fine with blurring all these gender lines. But, if we go that route, we need to make sure we raise our children with multiple competencies.

There are a lot of women struggling because somebody told them they could be doctors and scientists but didn't actually equip them with the skills and attitudes necessary to achieve their professional aspirations. At the same time, their mothers were working so they missed out on a lot of modeling.

And now they're single moms with no way to really support themselves. And, sadly, they're also not maternal. A lot of the stuff we assumed was instinctive is not. It was modeled in the home, and generations of girls (and boys) are missing it. People are managing to lose the information that we assumed was obvious. A couple of my acquaintances can message some married man on Facebook, but they can't open a new tab and google "fun songs to teach my children" or "how to make a paper star."

So you guys can toss out the bathwater, but we need the baby. The baby exists for a reason. The average person isn't nearly as smart, adaptable, curious, etc...as some of y'all. And gender roles are oppressive, but they maintained order and organization in a society of selfish human beings who are prone to fucking shit up.

^I think you're right, gender roles are indeed oppressive, but they've been around for a very very long time, and have helped keep things...organized for lack of better terms. Rearranging target and changing some signs will cost a fraction of their budget. The only person offended by them switching the labeling seems to be you.

Also meat is what McDonald's sells. Cheap goods made overseas is what target sells. Mcds changing their entire business model would be similar to target switching 90% of their inventory.

A proper analogy would be when mcds stopped cooking their fries in pig fat bc they pissed off half the worlds religions. Even that might have been costly than what target is doing.

It isn't culturally groundbreaking though. Target just wants some attention and good PR. The pandering here is obvious.

Plus, people have been sensitive to gender role shit for a bajillion years. I never got to buy any princess bullshit growing up because it was trashy and promoted unrealistic expectations.

I wouldn't let my girly son have princess sheets either. Nobody's gonna fancy themselves a fucking princess on my watch. I'd also like to pass on anything related to being a "diva" or a "daddy's girl."

Some customers want the boy/girl labels though...it definitely makes gift-buying easier. On the other hand, parents who are sensitive to that shit just use the signs to have a conversation with their kid about social norms and whatnot. Taking the signs down doesn't change anything...it just makes shit less transparent.
