Yeah they're designed to be supported by the hips. Not wide female hips, just the bone/joints called hips. As long as you have those, it will work. Men wear backpacks all the time, and for a long time they didn't even make female-specific ones.

I dropped baby weight not bc I was breastfeeding or exercised but my thyroid was so whack. I felt terrible. Had depression. The whole nine. Find a dr that will put you on a medication and then wean you off.

I see Dr Stall at Raleigh Endocrine Associates. They will prescribe synthetic or desiccated thyroid medication.

That would be Dr. Stall who wants me to ride it out, lol. I will see him again in a month to see where my blood work is. I was thyrotoxic for 5 months. I lost almost all my baby weight. My heart was freaking out so I am currently on beta blockers. But the last bloodwork came up hypothyroid. I got letter saying that he will discuss it with me at my next appointment (september) and to continue my current treatment. I called them anyways and although I do like Dr. Stall and the techs I met the chick that called me back was clueless.

I think I can manage until the 11th because the hypo stage doesn't make me feel as awful as the thyrotoxic stage did. Unless my milk supply is affected, then he will be getting another call.

When did you turn the car seat around to be forward facing?

Where I live it's legal at 1 year and 20 lbs, though the recommendation is that children remain rear facing for as long as possible. I'm curious when others have made the switch.

We haven't reached that mark yet, but I'm planning to rear face until 2 at the earliest. I made the mistake of watching YouTube crash test videos. We will probably rear face for as long as it is the safest choice.

I think we're getting ready to have to make it. She does not like the car seat at all, and when she gets mad she can push up against the back of the seat pretty hard. She's 15 months and about 24 lbs.

We'll be making the move from infant seat to convertible car seat in the next week or two. My daughter meets the age and weight requirements to forward face, so the new car seat makes turning around an option for the first time. I've been thinking similar to Elise about keeping her rear facing until closer to 2 (which I believe is also the AAP recommendation). The only reasons I could think of for turning around sooner are if she begins to fight the seat (pretty much what ^ said), or for convenience during long trips.

The Britax seats I'm looking at can rear face up to 40 lbs. I can't imagine trying to shoe horn a 40 lb kid into a rear facing seat.

We have the Diono Radian RXT. It has side impact protection, without having the kid feeling like they're sitting in cocoon type thing. My daughter has super severe motion sickness, so an open feeling & movement of air was extremely important. We initially chose it because it has the highest weight limit for rear facing (45 lbs), although now Diono makes a couple of models that go up to 50. I wanted to keep her RF as long as possible, but with the car sickness, repeated vomiting, screaming & panicking through even just short trips like to daycare a half mile away...we turned her around FF at 1 year 1 month & 21 lbs. We now have a Britax Pioneer 70 in my husband's car, but the Radian still feels like a much more solid seat. It also is fairly narrow, you could fit 3 across in a normal car if you wanted, so it leaves more room for other passengers in the back as well. She takes zofran if we go on a trip out of town, and now that she's over 2, the ped said she could have phenergan, but that'll knock her out so I don't think it's such a good idea.

Forgot to add that even though we had bought the seat bc of its high RF weight limits, I'm glad we have it with her FF at a year bc Diono seats are the only ones out there with a load-limiting strap for small kids 20-40lbs that are FF.

We bought the marathon and are happy with it. The guy at Buy Buy Baby didn't seem to think the upgrade was really worth it.

Went to our 15 month checkup this morning, and asked the doctor her thoughts on turning Abby around. She said not until 2 I realize its every parent's own decision but man, if we stick to that, its gonna be a rough 7 months. She's already really really tall for her age, so she's cramped.

AAP recommends 2 years and they along with the WHO are trying to get that pushed to the legal age. Car seat people apparently recommend 4 because that is when the spine is fully fused or something like that.

I'm just saying I hear cramped legs and boredom as a reason for turning kids around pretty often. Personally I don't think those are good enough reasons. Do your own research and make a decision that works for your family but I wouldn't et me kid whine their way in to a forward facing position.

We did not circumcise because we felt it was unnecessary. We did research and went with our instincts, but the AAP guidelines are still a good point to research.

Doctor told us that our 2 year old might have Hand Foot and Mouth disease. I just read the previous page . Please God I hope that's not what it is. He had a fever and a spot on the back of his throat but tested negative for strep.

I really want to put my girl forward facing (16 months old), because I want to interact with her. She doesn't really like riding unless someone is in the back seat and she can see them. I know it's a stupid reason and all the studies show it's safer to keep her rear facing, but it's hard when she hates not being able to see more.

As far as cramped, is your toddler taller than the limits on the carseat?
