3,500 more troops heading the Middle East per Pentagon.Bringing our boys home, right Earl?!?!In all honesty, anyone who believed Trump in this regard should never be taken seriously again.

Wait a damn minute. We aren't at war yet. A drone strike 3500 troops is hardly out of the ordinary. I'll admit I was wrong if the war actually starts
1/3/2020 1:48:19 PM
1/3/2020 1:55:36 PM
^^jesus what the fuck? he's sent something like 25k troops to the middle east
1/3/2020 1:56:42 PM
Correct. Some in response to Hormuz. Some at the request of Saudi Arabia. Some to protect oil fields in Syria Some to prevent another Benghazi at the embassy. Some to Kuwait just in case. Don't oversimplify this just get a victory lap on me. Conditions change. All of those are different than a 25k increase in combat troops you implied. Keep in mind, its been run of the mill to have 45,000-65,000 troops in Saudi Arabia and other gulf states manning all of our god damn bases. Trump clearly is not an anti-war president but he definitely not as hawkish as a lot of mainstream politicians out there right now. I don't think its fair to compare him to Obama because Obama was done either way. You have to compare him to Hillary and subtract the troops that would have been deployed in the conflict with Russia. These deployments might be to appease the hawks instead of start the war. Trump is a gamer and can't afford to alienate any part of his base right now.[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 2:20 PM. He's a bad dude, that doesnt justify an unauthorized (illegal) assassination and drawing us back into a conflict americans dont want because you think it will help you win an election and avoid embarrassment from an impeachment

Wait are leftists pretending he wasnt that bad now? Someone let me know before the next woke club meeting
1/3/2020 4:31:01 PM
He's a military leader fighting a protracted war against various enemies. If that makes him a murderer or a terrorist, let's extend that same qualification to the warmongers in our own country. That would be the fair and correct stance. But any progressive leaders not willing to do that should at least keep their mouths shut and not offer up justifications for the actions of bloodthirsty neocons.

Yeah now that I think about it "He's a terrorist and a murderer who killed thousands and would kill thousands more" is a great opener to convince people that killing him was bad idea[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 4:38 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2020 4:37:53 PM
Of course he's bad. He's a military commander with decades of experience. So are our guys. Obama and Bush are also responsible for many more deaths. None of this means any of them should be assassinated. These types of people should be tried and punished in a civilized way.
1/3/2020 4:44:07 PM
A few days earlier and you would be competing with adult swim trusting a russian led tour through Syria for worst military related take of 2019It's still illegal, dumb and wrong to assassinate bad guys, we dont have to make believe that he was a good dude to oppose this. Your morality and opinion on American imperialism shouldn't be that shallow.[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 4:45 PM. Reason : Responding to Dave, didnt even read the horosho post above ]

Never said he was a good guy, in fact I said this:
1/3/2020 4:56:23 PM
It is, indeed, possible to not support WWIII, yet be glad an evil and murderous person is no longer alive.
1/3/2020 4:58:39 PM
Sure, and by expressing that opinion publicly, you are carrying water for Mike Pompeo.
1/3/2020 5:05:28 PM
Please stop posting. It's embarrassing.
1/3/2020 5:07:18 PM
I wish I could find all of the quotes of people praising Bush and Mccain after they passed away. None of the people going out of their way to throw in the "murderer" qualification today did the same for them.

ujustwait is the epitome of "love me, i'm a liberal"
1/3/2020 5:11:00 PM
I’m with daavve. He was a bad guy the same way the head of the CIA or any other counterintelligence agency is a bad guy. We assassinate people covertly, we hack people, we foment uprisings, we support coups. Our leaders invoke God in these actions. I’m not seeing where soulemani did anything differently, except in his own countries’ interests. If it’s now policy to assassinate people like this, why not assassinate Putin or Netanyahu?Soulemani wanted to be a martyr and killing him doesn’t solve any problems that I can see, and seems like it’s likely to create new problems, that are very costly. I can imagine any American leader overseas now is a target, even Jared and ivanka. If the path to war now is picking a bad guy in a foreign country then killing them then saying “come at me bro” that’s a very bad precedent to set globally.
1/3/2020 5:16:14 PM
Of course it's a bad precedent. We have an absolute lunatic of a president that's been impeached calling the shots, and an administration that openly peddles conspiracy theories. We should NOT have done it the way we did, and this is going to be a complete disaster. But none of that erases the fact that Soleimani was a murderous piece of shit. I'm with dtownral- enough of this 'both sides' shit that only serves to distract everyone.
1/3/2020 5:21:57 PM
By painting Soleimani as a murdering piece of shit and not extending that privilege to Trump and Pompeo, you portray the US as somewhat justified in killing him, maybe not to you, but to many other people. It's counterproductive when the goal is to end our terror campaign in the middle east. Like I said, just shut the fuck up with your liberal hand-wringing and oppose the war that this administration wants to start.[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 5:28 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2020 5:28:00 PM
Where have I ever said I supported war? I vehemently oppose it, actually. I just thought your screenshot of the Warren tweet was dumb AF, because she's 100% right. And quit denying the obvious: the war has already started. It's just not unfolding in realtime the ways we're used to seeing. Yet...[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 5:31 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2020 5:30:02 PM
Anyone issuing an anti-war statement should not start their statement with what amounts to a justification for war for many people. For some reason this only happens with foreign policy.
1/3/2020 5:45:46 PM
^ exactly. This war is wrong not because we didn’t assassinate Sulemani in the “proper” way. It’s wrong because neither the Iranians or Americans deserve to have their lives and money wasted over him or anything Iran has done.
1/3/2020 5:48:44 PM
Weird strawman, guys. But you do you.

Warren wasn't issuing an 'anti-war' statement, she was pointing out the obvious, while criticizing Trump's actions because they were impetuous. It was wrong to assassinate Soleimani (even though he was a bad guy!) and we are due for a retaliatory response sooner or later. That's all.[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 6:21 PM. Reason : .]

1/3/2020 7:13:53 PM
^^Wrong and I'm not sure how you could have gotten that out of what I said. I want liberals to do better and not feel the need to begin anti-war statements with "x is bad but..."[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 7:15 PM. Reason : .]
1/3/2020 7:15:09 PM
Nah. You just want liberals to think and act only in the ways YOU feel they should. You're not a progressive at all; you fall more into the same camp that earl and the "watch the world burn" camp of nut jobs do.
1/3/2020 7:25:08 PM
It’s not wrong or bad to say “X is bad but we shouldn’t be in the business of extra-judicial assassinations.” This is barely even nuance and if you want purity over this good luck ever winning any general election.
1/3/2020 8:33:38 PM
It's bad and it helps the neocons consolidate their message. If everyone in a position of power states out loud that x was a terrorist murderer who wanted to kill Americans, it makes the public mind more susceptible to suggestions of war. Idk how you guys don't understand at this point that drums of war are emotional and not rational, and we need to be careful with our words. It's a very simple cliche to avoid, as evidenced by statements put out by Bernie Sanders, AOC, and Ilhan Omar.[Edited on January 3, 2020 at 9:26 PM.
