http://www.kenpom.com/team.php?y=2010&team=North%20Carolina%20St.

On the season, we've had our best defensive efficiency as a team since Hodge's senior year.

I'm officially on board.

one thing to look at w/ that kenpom stats is our Experience - we are 1.45 years which is ranked 261 out of 347 in the entire country - so that's young.

I'm wondering how KenPom does it.

My guess is a small army, complete with field hospital, of asian data-entry slaves

I have to think he's talking about Costner here...he mentioned bad chemistry a couple times in that interview

that was a great interview. Lowe looks different now, he's got that "vindicated" look in his eyes, pride in knowing he took a rag-tag bunch of bad-news-bears types and they are playing really good basketball. I've watched NCSU a longg time and I don't think i've ever seen us play this great a team defense in my lifetime.

Also, don't know if its been talked about elsewhere, if so i haven't seen it, but Johnny Thomas, man that dude looked good these last couple of games. He's easily our most athletic player and he looks pretty polished not to have played the last two years.

^ I think Davis is more athletic in terms of speed, jumping, agility, etc. Thomas is probably stronger, but strength is not something this team has at any position outside Howell. Our guys need to hit the weights. Horner still looks like a 15 yr old teenager with those "guns".

agreed, that's been a big part of our late seson success. We've held our opponent under 60 in 6 of the last 8 games and also won 6 of the last 8.

If you have an hour to kill this thread is pretty readable from the beginning.

Particularly the parts where certain posters notice the team is playing much better from week to week and are on the cusp of winning games instead of losing them while others bitch and moan and make the same invalid points over and over again.

Yes, I know the whole "close/horseshoes" saying, and I know it all comes down to the Xs and Os, but i was ok w/ some of the losses this season. The team still hustled, didn't give-up, and were only blown-out a few times. It's something to build on, and maybe w/ a little more talent, or more experiene, all those close games will be wins.

Are you saying that it doesn't matter to you whether we lose a game by 1 or by 20?

No. I'm not arguing any of that. What I have an issue with is his statement that we used to lose games and now we are close to winning. That makes no sense whatsoever.

I agree that we played better later in the season. Like most of us who question Sid's coaching ability have been saying all along, these players can win games. Glad to see Sid finally figured out how to get them to do that.

We got spanked by Maryland (twice), UNC (twice), Virginia (twice), Virginia Tech (twice), and UAB. You can argue that the Northwestern and first Wake games really weren't that close either. So in over half our losses, we were beat SOUNDLY.

We had a couple close games...but deserved the majority of our losses. We also won our share of close games as well.

Yep. My sentiments exactly. I guess better late than never. adder thinks we played the same all year. Most people are smart enough to realize we improved drastically the last 10 games minus our UAB slaughter.

^^^ God you are a fucking troll when it comes to things regarding Sid. UVa did not spank us in the 1st game and neither did UNC in the 1st game. In both games we held good leads in the 2nd half, but had a patented scoring drought and they pulled away at the end. Hardly a spanking.

Maryland beat us soundly in the 1st game, but we hung with them until late in the 2nd half in the 2nd game. VT did not spank us in either game. A spanking is what UAB did, not a game where we lose in the 2nd half because we run out of gas or simply are out-talented.

^Are you trying to say UNC or UVA have more talent than us? We should have beaten both of those teams.

Also the game at RBC against VTech was the biggest blowout of the year. RBC was empty with 5 minutes to go in the game man.

We were up, what, 4 points on UNC in the 2nd half...in like the first 2 minutes?? That's a really good 2nd half lead if you ask me. Then they thoroughly dominated us for the rest of the game. Same goes for the UVa game.

Getting "spanked" doesn't mean you have to lose by 20+ points...to me it means that you don't really have a realistic chance of winning in the last 5+ minutes of the game. Which is pretty much what happened in all of the games I mentioned. Save a miracle barrage of 3 points and our team actually playing different than it had for the previous 10-15 minutes...there was no chance of us winning any of those game.

So we shot 100% except the shots that we missed.

We went undefeated except the games that we lost.

There was improvement throughout the year, as there fucking should be and is in nearly any competent program. But it is nothing to be excited about IMO.

We stopped going backwards, but we didn't go forward by much.

The last 10 games exposed the misconception that is widespread on this site. And that is:

The current players (PGs in particular) aren't talented enough to win in the ACC.

the last 10 games the main reason we won is that teams shot ~20% from 3. that was almost the entire defensive improvement. i dont care who you are, that's not going to keep up

we'll be better next year because we'll have better players. trying to draw anything from a few games at the end of the year is dumb. we all know what happened last time we did that

We lost no more than four games the next year.

Seriously, I was very impressed with the defensive intensity at the end of the year. Have to wonder why we didn't show it for the first 80% of the season...

There were a lot of people on here blaming everything on the players. That was my point. And that perception was disproved over the last 10 games. There were only a few people on here that stood by the players. I'm just glad that we were vindicated.

its not a war of dick waving between whoever blames something on a coach or the players. I don't know if this performance "vindicates" anyone, we just happened to win some games. Of course its a mix of the two. Just don't pay attention to the asshats that clearly say its only one factor.

and ibt someone like DonBeebe says I was a Sid Lowe supporter who would never blame him and only just the players, because that shit isn't true.

I'm just glad the season is over and the trolls can move on to the healthcare bill.

We ended the season with 1 unexpected win. That was the win against Clemson. We beat Miami and BC (probably the two worst teams in the ACC). We beat a wake team who was going through a terrible late season slide (and a team that we played fairly closely earlier in the season). We beat an FSU team on a neutral site who we had beaten at home earlier in the year. We also got exposed by VT with their superior guard play (see below).
I am not arguing that we showed no improvement all year I am just it wasn't this sudden light switch of "lowe getting it" like you retards seem to think it was.

During the last ten games we played against teams that we could hide our weakness at guard. When we played a guard oriented teams (UAB, VT) they kicked our asses so yes our current guards are still not ACC caliber players.
You Sidney Lowe haters are just WAAAAY to fucking bipolar you all need to chill a little.

That is semantics I still argue that peoples viewpoint is seriously skewed by us playing a bunch of teams that we matched up well against towards the end of the season. Look at the teams who we played for the second time during this mythical 10 game stretch of excellence and you will see a lot of similar results as to when we played them earlier in the season. This seems to indicate that we improved just about as much as some of the other teams. I am sure that some of you will point out the exceptions of Clemson (a good win) and Wake (patented late season slide) but there are counter examples too. What about FSU? We dominated them on their home court and just barely beat them in the tourney. Maybe I should be happy that the haters are finally trying to get on the bandwagon?

This was not the same team that lost 7 straight ACC games. If you can't see that then you're either ignorant or you don't want to face the fact that this team could have been better than it ended up.

It almost sounds like you guys wish we'd lost those games so you wouldn't have to admit that our players (guards and Horner) weren't the shitfest you thought they were.

And then you'd have to admit that maybe Sidney deserves some blame.

^ Back up your statement don't just make a statement with no explanation. I explained that we ended up with similar results against the same foes later in the season while you had... lemme see here... NOTHING. Maybe you think we would have beaten UVA or UNC. Considering UAB and UVA (with landesburg) both have good guard play that shredded us I doubt it. UNC just beat UAB who trounced us. Seriously you haters just need to get some perspective/ maturity and understand we were one of the lower tier ACC teams and we played like it ALL YEAR.

Who's this "you guys" you speak of? Not me. I'm getting a bit confused about what the argument is here. I'll still say that our guards aren't above average ACC guards, and half the time weren't even average. Not sure how you can argue that. But the team definitely came together at the end of the season. The team.

I'm excited about next year just to see Harrow play and to see how much he can make us better (and possibly Leslie??).

I hope we can make it to the tournament next year. Anything less...and I still think Sid should go. I don't think there's anything unreasonable about that. I hope he's learning as a coach and can get better. Is he a better coach than when he first got here?? Probably. Is he good enough to be a head coach at an ACC program?? Hopefully...it's better for us if we can succeed without going through another coaching change. But we also shouldn't keep treading water if he's never going to be good enough.

Next season will say a lot.
