droids are BOGO. $200 in stores and $150 online. y'all think i'll have any luck on getting a refund for the difference? i bought two of them less than a month ago.
2/19/2010 12:47:55 PM
If you're still under 30 days, you should be able to. Otherwise, you can just return them, wait 3 days and get the new deal without paying a restocking fee.The Droid still lists as $199 online for me. Only difference is it's now Buy a Droid, Get a Droid instead of Buy a Droid, Get an Eris[Edited on February 19, 2010 at 12:54 PM. Reason : ]

My sister is considering joining Verizon for a Droid within the next week or so. Are there any phones coming out within the next couple of weeks/month that it'd be worth waiting on?
2/19/2010 2:10:16 PM
Other than the Devour, there doesn't seem to be much coming android related. The Verizon Nexus One is also coming sometime this spring.
2/19/2010 2:23:20 PM
Has anyone tried using swype for android? I just installed it on my droid today and am loving it. I've been using it for about half an hour and my speed is already a bit faster than typing on either of the keyboards.
2/19/2010 3:10:39 PM
yeah, swype is great and doesn't take long to get used to it.

snapdragon apparently isn't all it's cracked up to be. Plus who needs it, I'm clocked to 1.1GHz on my droid.
2/19/2010 3:26:50 PM
The plan I would get works out about $9 cheaper per month with Sprint (b/c of work discounts) so I'm thinking I'll go with them, but don't REALLY want a Hero or Moment.I think this was discussed before, but how's your battery life with the overclock? and is it heating up a lot?
2/19/2010 3:34:00 PM
just got a $200 credit on my account
2/19/2010 3:34:18 PM
Battery life is still good. If anything it seems to have gotten a little better. I didn't have a temp monitor on the stock rom but usually get around 100F after 10-15min of browsing
2/19/2010 3:49:35 PM
ATT is supposed to have like 5 android phones by the end of Q2

When will the 2.1 update hit my Droid?
2/22/2010 8:34:27 AM
When you install the leaked rom or when verizon/motorola release it.
2/22/2010 8:43:07 AM
^^everything ive found says "this quarter"google isnt helping and i dont really have time to search every page of thsi thread, but can anyone give me a quick idea of how to get javasorry if its a dumb question
2/22/2010 12:06:01 PM
I'm not even sure I'll upgrade when its released. At least not until it's rooted and someone makes a custom rom. Running Bugless Beast @ 1.1GHz with wifi tether. Its great. The same guy has released a 2.1 rom but it seems a little quirky. Saps- what are you trying to do? Afaik you can only enable javascript
2/22/2010 12:15:42 PM
patiently waiting for Sprint to introduce some new Android phones with updated hardware
2/22/2010 12:37:01 PM
^i wouldn't hold your breath. i think the supersonic is the only sprint android phone on the way, and i wouldn't be surprised if that came in the 2nd half of the year.also, bing cashback on wirefly.com is now $100. so that makes the droid $-50
2/22/2010 2:51:00 PM
bump.
2/22/2010 5:56:52 PM
rooted my phone, and installed "wireless tether for root users".........everything seems to work fine, and the log file is all good. When I connect to it, it seems that i don't have internet access. I can see 1kb here and there get up/downloaded, but no internet connection. Anyone else have this problem?
2/23/2010 4:17:16 PM
Did you install one of the kernels that support it? Not sure if it works on the stock one. Easiest way is to get one of the custom roms that have a modded kernel.
2/23/2010 5:03:32 PM
no, i just rooted and installed the tether. What rom do you recommend? I saw one Buggless Beast or whatever, but it looks rather involved to install. Do you guys think that I should wait until 2.1 is released, and try to get a rom based off it?
2/23/2010 5:05:16 PM
HTC Desire will be coming to AT&T and HTC Legend will be coming to Sprinthttp://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/02/23/att-picking-up-htc-desire-sprint-grabbing-htc-hero2/Desire will have a 1GHz SnapdragonLegend will be the Hero2 with 600MHz processorhttp://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/02/16/htc-desire-hd-mini-legend-get-official/As mentioned earlier the HTC Incredible will be Verizon's next bad boyhttp://www.boygeniusreport.com/2010/02/07/htc-incredible-spotted-shot-stuffed-and-shown-off/

^^ shouldn't be too hard now especially with all the tools available. I took the long drawn out way when I did mine but luckily there was a step by step guide (which seems to have disappeared). Now there's a tool called droidmod that's free. http://downloads.droidmod.org/dmupdater-10.apk can pretty much do it all for you. When downloaded, it'll download and install the latest SPRecovery (should be 99.3b) image and flash. The recovery image is what you need to flash the nandroid backup of the roms or the update files. Once you get that going, it's a breeze. Below is one guide that does a walkthrough except it used the paid droid root helper app instead of droidmod http://forums.crackberry.com/f169/easy-step-step-guide-installing-bugless-beast-415876/
2/23/2010 5:32:14 PM
^^^ok i should read more. The stock kernel doesn't support wifi tether. I'll wait a little longer on the 2.1 roms, although they seem to already be out in the wild. http://alldroid.org/viewtopic.php?f=309&t=2557Happy soft-modding!

I've got Quake 2 running on mine right now. It runs flawlessly, but the controls are hard as fuck to learn.

Looks like the Desire rom with senseui is being ported to the droid. http://www.alldroid.org/viewtopic.php?f=253&t=2714
2/24/2010 9:08:22 PM
if the desire doesn't cost too much i might get it when it comes out
2/25/2010 10:24:45 PM
when do guys expect to upgrade to a 2.1 rom? I would really want wifi tethering to be built-in/included. Are you waiting until after the official release of 2.1?
2/26/2010 11:13:19 AM
I have no intentions of upgrading until it's rooted and overclocked.
2/26/2010 11:16:11 AM
Don't hold your breath for built-in tethering.
2/26/2010 11:18:10 AM
That's why I'm just waiting until they make a custom rom that includes it all.

I'm going to foray into the smart phone world...is it necessary to have a "text" package do be able to send texts? Why is it not possible with the data plan to send out text messages?
