We're gonna have a problem when we hit page 43.
11/11/2008 5:13:27 PM
^ Lol maybe an equation Cole plus Brindamour?
11/11/2008 6:17:39 PM
That'll be Gleason's number next year since he changes them every season, all kidding aside.I'm glad Leighton gets the start tomorrow, he deserves to get more time with how well he's been playing. It'll be interesting if all three are returning soon, I like the stuff Helminen has shown and wish he'd get put back with LaRose and Ruutu, that line has some chemistry and needs to be back together. Can't wait for the game tomorrow, wish I could tailgate but won't get out of class until later, boo, but will still enjoy the game for sure!
11/11/2008 9:29:38 PM

11/11/2008 9:38:57 PM
i would think that some other team will pick him up before he clears waiver.
11/11/2008 9:42:11 PM
Tonight is crucial!

11/12/2008 7:40:48 PM
Jesus fucking Christ, Staal...
11/12/2008 7:41:03 PM
Staal is blowing
11/12/2008 7:48:39 PM
2 years ago he would have put all three of those through the back of the net. WTF is up with him?
11/12/2008 7:56:05 PM
so it looks like semin has taken over jokinen's role of the divisions cane-killer[Edited on November 12, 2008 at 8:20 PM. Reason : absolutely ridiculous]
11/12/2008 8:19:09 PM
I just turned the game on at the beginning of the 2nd period.. but Pitkanen(i know he is just coming back from injury) looks a little half-ass out there sometimes. I've seen atleast 2 chances Staal should have put away. Theodore made a good save on one.. although i think Staal should have gone high and the other he definitely should have one-timed but didn't, allowing the defender to get over and deflect
11/12/2008 8:20:29 PM
^ you missed staal going 0-3 with 3 wide open nets on the same power play in the 1st
11/12/2008 8:21:17 PM
this is ridiculous
11/12/2008 8:24:23 PM
^^wow. hate I missed that
11/12/2008 8:28:34 PM
this is actually on TV up here, just kinda weird that its a Capitals' broadcast on Comcast SportsNet
11/12/2008 8:42:45 PM
I hate to say it, but the canes need a change in coaching philosophy, which basically means, get rid of Lavi.
11/12/2008 8:55:20 PM
wtf, i come back from my lacrosse game to this bullshit...
11/12/2008 8:58:38 PM
^^They aren't putting effort in for him.get Ted nolan.
11/12/2008 9:23:24 PM
exactly. Lavi needs to go.
11/12/2008 9:28:46 PM
And my Devils got stomped by nearly an exact margin. This sucks.
11/12/2008 9:36:02 PM
i cant even begin to express how disappointed i am
11/12/2008 9:48:12 PM
Let's face it, we just have an average team. We don't have a good offense, we are horrible on defense and our special teams aren't effective. The only thing solid we have is goaltending but even that will go away with the amount of man-advantage opportunities we give up on defense. This is an average team, lucky to be in a division full of other average teams other than Washington, so they'll end up in the playoff hunt but not make it again for the third straight year. Replacing Lavi will be a no-brainer after this season.
11/12/2008 10:30:35 PM
11/12/2008 10:38:11 PM
^I think we actually have a pretty good team. My problem is that they play with no effort
11/12/2008 11:04:25 PM
11/12/2008 11:07:43 PM
what a fucking shitshow!! no effort, no one finishing checks, staal is trying to shoot anything he possibly can, whereas he needs to be a healthy scratch to just get his head clear, and the worst goddamned 5-3 EEEEVER continues!!
11/13/2008 12:03:33 AM
The only player playing tonight was Scott Walker (who was both pissed and pleased). Staal can't hit the broad side of a barn and a lot of players looked lost (especially Gleason on the assist on Ovie's goal from Semin). I wouldn't mind firing Lavi and getting either Torts or Ted Nolan or even Savard (though he screwed up at the beginning I think we have the pieces to do what he wants) or when the Stars drop it on Tippett. I think anything would be better than this, while we're at it, fire McCarthy. I hate him. He is the worst special teams coach, both power play and penalty kill sucked. There are enough coaches out there that we could bring in and turn this around (see Chicago this year), that I think we turn this around. There was zero effort and at times it hurts being a fan in Raleigh as we don't really have winners between the Wolfpack and the 'Canes. I want the summer of 06 to come back
11/13/2008 12:27:17 AM
I'm not on the fire Lavi bandwagon yet, but if he does end up getting fired Tom Rowe will be the head coach. Guaranteed. And jesus fucking christ at the suggestion of hiring Tortorella.
11/13/2008 1:20:26 AM
Also I think some people need to come down off of the ledge. We have a team currently sitting in a playoff spot (7th in the East) after playing a tough early schedule with most of their games (9 out of 16) on the road and a severely depleted lineup. There are some major problems at the moment, namely the two massive disasters (thankfully only witnessed by about 12,000 and 14,000 people. ouch.) that have taken place in our own building this week, but there's no need to start throwing deck chairs off yet to keep this thing afloat.
11/13/2008 1:25:18 AM
We need to do something to save the season and do it fast. If things don't improve by December, then Lavi needs to go.
11/13/2008 1:56:49 AM
I think he probably gets a couple of more months and if things spiral out of control he is gone. As I said, I'm not ready to give up on Lavi quite yet, but just for the sake of discussion...I raised some concerns about Lavi during the 06-07 season regarding how he lost the team on Long Island. If he goes, I think whoever takes over (Rowe) will need to overhaul the system so that more emphasis is on smart play than hard work, because the hard work thing just isn't going to get it done on a nightly basis. It worked in 05-06 because we were ahead of the game on adjusting to the "new" NHL, and because refs were calling penalties at the slightest infraction. I don't think this whole skate skate skate approach can work across an 82 game season anymore.I know these guys are professionals and getting paid a lot of money to do this, but it's clear that having to absolutely bust your ass out there for an 82 game season just to win games is not effective. You look at the real successful teams right now in this league, and you don't see this need to skate the other team to death in order to win. I'm not saying they don't work hard, because working hard is certainly essential to winning, but they play a smarter game that doesn't require a huge stamina level to sustain from game to game. The other question is how long can someone be able to motivate their players to keep up that level of work ethic? That was reportedly the issue on Long Island, and I wouldn't be surprised if it has become one here. Yes, ideally NHL players should not need any motivation from anyone to play at their highest level, but I still think we may need to rely a little more on skill and less on being able to fatigue the opponent like we are a team of Rod Brind'Amours. My gut feeling is that if Tom Rowe took over this team they would become more consistent winners. If that's true then I guess it means Lavi really should go, but I think I would personally have a hard time swallowing that right now. But as I said before, it's 2 games. Two terrible terrible games, but nonetheless 2 games. We are still a playoff team right now. If this turns into a true spiral, I will panic. The team certainly laid an egg its fair share of times in 05-06. So did the Red Wings last year. I think Laviolette is probably down to his last strike as coach of this team, and everyone probably knows it. So we'll see how they respond...
