finally got around to listening to the new MMJ"highly suspicious" could be one of the worst songs i've ever heardand parts of "thank you too" sound a little too close to the worship jam "open the eyes of my heart lord"other than that it's pretty good[Edited on April 26, 2008 at 8:53 PM. Reason : .]

Anyone here heard of Jim Noir? His self titled record this year is freaking incredible. It reminds me if you fuzzed up the beach boys sound and added lots of keyboards. Reminds me of super furry animals but even catchier.
4/27/2008 10:08:01 AM
^ I do he's so god damn poppy that you can't help but like him.
4/27/2008 10:47:17 AM
4/27/2008 1:42:31 PM
Do it. His new record is one of the more amazing records I've heard in a long time. I really think alot of you will like it - let me know what you think.I'd upload it like you guys do to this thread but honestly I'm not sure how to do it or where to go... ^ if it doesn't i'm coming after you.

Opeth album so good]

4/28/2008 3:41:44 PM
Agreed. Takes me forever to get it right.
4/28/2008 3:51:29 PM
4/28/2008 3:56:40 PM
a little bit too much of a studio sound, but the live vids of some of these songs are pretty brutal.]

4/28/2008 4:55:24 PM
"highly suspicious" is the ONLY song on the entire record that I don't like. When I first heard it, I was seriously thinking it was a parody that would be left off of the real record. Although I hate to do this, and have never done it before, I'm seriously considering just leaving that one song off of the playlist for the album and CD. I just can't find any redeeming value for that song yet. haha
4/28/2008 5:16:02 PM
It has grown on me the more I've listened to it. As I said when it first leaked, I didn't like it from the live bootlegs and I didn't like the studio version, but I've come around. I still think the lyrics suck but there's good entertainment value to the song. There's something strangely catchy about it.
4/28/2008 6:41:09 PM
I get the entertainment idea of keeping Highly Suspicious. I kept NIN - Capital G just for the humor.

Wolf Parade -- At Mount Zoomer (2008)hxxp://www.mediafire.com/?2z0mmzqqyiy
4/29/2008 1:48:47 PM
^sweet. i thought the new wolf parade would have come out months ago.
4/29/2008 1:52:20 PM
^ that'll determine if I go to Disco Rodeo come July
4/29/2008 1:53:52 PM
yeah for me too.it'll have to be damn good to get me to go to that craphole.
4/29/2008 1:57:23 PM
I'd be shocked if it's good enough to make it worth it.I mean, Wolf Parade is great, but...Disco Rodeo.
4/29/2008 2:00:30 PM
How about y'all do me a favor and download that in case the link is down by the time I can get around to downloading it this weekend. lol.I'm not a fan of Disco Rodeo either, but The Flaming Lips still managed to put on a great show despite the venue. I wouldn't let it discourage you from going to see a band --- they may very well overcome the obstacle that is Disco Rodeo.
4/29/2008 2:05:55 PM
ive been to several decent size venues MUCH worse than disco rodeo thats for sure.[Edited on April 29, 2008 at 2:06 PM. Reason : ]

and the single from the Coldplay album... surely someone wants it? hahacoldplay -- "violet hill"hxxp://rapidshare.com/files/111248360/coldplay_violethill.zip
4/29/2008 2:11:30 PM
great song, excited to see the rest of the new album
4/29/2008 2:37:26 PM
I'm actually intrigued by the new Coldplay because Eno is attached to the project but I heard that new song earlier today and it is awful.
4/29/2008 2:37:57 PM
i saw interpol at Norva last summer in Norfolk, VA (was in the area at the time). and while the venue itself was kinda cool, the sound was just as bad disco rodeo and the sound guy somehow managed to take nearly all the bass away from interpol (who have some of the best bass lines out there right now)
4/29/2008 2:40:54 PM
I can't imagine listening to them without the bass.
4/29/2008 3:03:11 PM
i'm almost through the wolf parade album. the second half seems stronger than the first. but i've been kinda distracted and not paying much attention to it. doesn't seem too spectacular on the first listen though.
4/29/2008 3:16:25 PM
Anyone listen to Ludo? Just discovered them and it's pretty catchy stuff. Still listening to some of the songs but I can't get this one out of my head:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SCU1JYmGxcA&feature=relatedWarning, it's "power-pop", so some of you will probably turn up your nose at it.
4/29/2008 3:21:54 PM
I don't turn my nose up at power pop.In fact, I love power pop. With that said,ATTN: LUDOPOP SONGS NEED HOOKS
4/29/2008 3:37:44 PM
I don't know much about music...but I thought they have hooks....the chorus of "Love me dead" where he sorta screams it...along with the "da-da-dadada"...isn't that a hook?Or are you referring to some of their other songs?I'm confused?
4/29/2008 3:48:07 PM
Yes, it's a hook, but it's an extremely weak one, so it might as well not be.This song's got three or four strong ones, for instance:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XBAUQaj6EJo
4/29/2008 3:52:23 PM
that also happens to be the only new pornographers song i really likethe wolf parade sounds decent. none of the songs really stood out on first listen.
4/29/2008 3:58:37 PM
4/29/2008 4:15:57 PM
thanks for the wolf parade jstpack, i'm really loving it so far.
4/29/2008 7:58:32 PM
Just picked up The Roots, Portishead, Puscifer and 9th Wonder & Buckshot
4/29/2008 8:36:47 PM
fwiw
4/29/2008 9:22:36 PM
dang havent listened to them in years
4/29/2008 9:23:26 PM
that "California Dreams" song on the Wolf Parade album is pretty fucking tight
4/30/2008 2:25:24 PM
"kissing the beehive" is epic
4/30/2008 2:34:54 PM
this is weird. i only have a handful of mp3s on my work computer (the wolf parade album is on there)"kissing the beehive clocks in at 10:47.the next song in my library is "Pass the Hatchet, I think I'm Goodkind" by yo la tengo which clocks in at 10:47.crazy that two long-ass songs of the exact same length would be one after another.oh yeah and my favorite after two listens is "fine young cannibals"[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 3:33 PM. 4/30/2008 3:16:59 PM
Not really a "music of 2008" question, but of all the local bands I see talked about on TWW, I never see any mention of Schooner.Do people just not like them or haven't heard of them or what? Along with The Rosebuds, and the Bowerbirds, they're one of my favorite Triangle area bands right now. (although Megafaun and Sweater Weather are pretty nice as well).[Edited on April 30, 2008 at 3:57 PM. Reason : .]
4/30/2008 3:56:54 PM
Never heard of them to be honestI'll look for some of their albums when I get home though
4/30/2008 4:54:45 PM
Language City is my fav off of the new Wolf Parade. Fine Young Cannibals is a close second. Although I don't think I'll be going to the Disco Rodeo unless I'm bored that day. I can't imagine them being able to sell out the Disco Rodeo though.
