Martha Wainwright --I Know You're Married But I've Got Feelings Too (June 10, 2008)

hxxp://rapidshare.com/files/110199529/Martha_Wainright_-_I_Know_You_re_Married.zip

She does a cover of Pink Floyd's "See Emily Play" on this record--- I can't wait to get home and check this out.

finally got around to listening to the new MMJ

"highly suspicious" could be one of the worst songs i've ever heard

and parts of "thank you too" sound a little too close to the worship jam "open the eyes of my heart lord"

other than that it's pretty good

Anyone here heard of Jim Noir?

His self titled record this year is freaking incredible. It reminds me if you fuzzed up the beach boys sound and added lots of keyboards. Reminds me of super furry animals but even catchier.

I've seen that, but haven't dl'd it yet. I really like that description, though, so I'm going to search for it today.

Do it. His new record is one of the more amazing records I've heard in a long time. I really think alot of you will like it - let me know what you think.

I'd upload it like you guys do to this thread but honestly I'm not sure how to do it or where to go...

a little bit too much of a studio sound, but the live vids of some of these songs are pretty brutal.

LOVE this album.

LOVE that song.

Highly Suspicious is shaping up to be pretty damn divisive.

"highly suspicious" is the ONLY song on the entire record that I don't like.

When I first heard it, I was seriously thinking it was a parody that would be left off of the real record.

Although I hate to do this, and have never done it before, I'm seriously considering just leaving that one song off of the playlist for the album and CD. I just can't find any redeeming value for that song yet. haha

It has grown on me the more I've listened to it. As I said when it first leaked, I didn't like it from the live bootlegs and I didn't like the studio version, but I've come around. I still think the lyrics suck but there's good entertainment value to the song. There's something strangely catchy about it.

I get the entertainment idea of keeping Highly Suspicious. I kept NIN - Capital G just for the humor.

I'd be shocked if it's good enough to make it worth it.

I mean, Wolf Parade is great, but...Disco Rodeo.

How about y'all do me a favor and download that in case the link is down by the time I can get around to downloading it this weekend. lol.

I'm not a fan of Disco Rodeo either, but The Flaming Lips still managed to put on a great show despite the venue. I wouldn't let it discourage you from going to see a band --- they may very well overcome the obstacle that is Disco Rodeo.

i saw interpol at Norva last summer in Norfolk, VA (was in the area at the time). and while the venue itself was kinda cool, the sound was just as bad disco rodeo and the sound guy somehow managed to take nearly all the bass away from interpol (who have some of the best bass lines out there right now)

Anyone listen to Ludo? Just discovered them and it's pretty catchy stuff. Still listening to some of the songs but I can't get this one out of my head:

Warning, it's "power-pop", so some of you will probably turn up your nose at it.

I don't know much about music...but I thought they have hooks....the chorus of "Love me dead" where he sorta screams it...along with the "da-da-dadada"...isn't that a hook?

Or are you referring to some of their other songs?

I'm confused?

Yes, it's a hook, but it's an extremely weak one, so it might as well not be.

This song's got three or four strong ones, for instance:

"We just announced a show at the Mercury Lounge in NYC on June 3rd.

We will be about half-way through the recording of our new record so we hope to play the majority of it live before putting the finishing touches on it. We have been doing about 6-8 over the last few months and will probably shoot for 12+ for this show.

So, the goal is to have a fun, low-key show where we share our new tunes in their rawest form with anyone that wants to hear them. Some of the tunes we can play pretty damn well now but others will prove to be difficult and challenging, and who knows maybe technically embarrassing .

Please be warned the set will consist of 95% new material. If this sounds fun to you come on down and watch us sweat it out.

We will back on the road at a later date with sets full of tunes both new and old soon enough.

Love,
cursive"

this is weird. i only have a handful of mp3s on my work computer (the wolf parade album is on there)

"kissing the beehive clocks in at 10:47.
the next song in my library is "Pass the Hatchet, I think I'm Goodkind" by yo la tengo which clocks in at 10:47.

crazy that two long-ass songs of the exact same length would be one after another.

oh yeah and my favorite after two listens is "fine young cannibals"

Not really a "music of 2008" question, but of all the local bands I see talked about on TWW, I never see any mention of Schooner.

Do people just not like them or haven't heard of them or what? Along with The Rosebuds, and the Bowerbirds, they're one of my favorite Triangle area bands right now. (although Megafaun and Sweater Weather are pretty nice as well).

Language City is my fav off of the new Wolf Parade. Fine Young Cannibals is a close second. Although I don't think I'll be going to the Disco Rodeo unless I'm bored that day. I can't imagine them being able to sell out the Disco Rodeo though.
