some nerd/faggot on another board wants to know why there are no gay characters in this diverse politically correct Star Trek universe

my response: in the future, they have cured the mental illness that is homosexuality

also my thoughts: in some future movie they should have the crew travel to the "real" timeline somehow, it cant be hard to do, Worf jumped timelines whenever La Forge got close to him after he piloted a shuttlecraft through some invisible anomoly

then maybe send them to something as bad or worse than Riker's "the Borg is everywhere" timeline before they get home

i think he means the regular star trek universe as opposed to this alternate reality the new franchise is in.

There was an episode where Riker had relations with a sexually ambiguous alien.

I'll give them a pass on blowing up Vulcan because that really sets things up for 'War Trek' and a darker, more militaristic Starfleet. That sort of shit translates into movies better then trying to solve some complex humanitarian mission. Not everything can be Star Trek VI after all.

That being said, no more fucking time travel.

Finally saw the movie two weeks ago. I can maybe buy the time warping red matter bullshit and creating a new "alternative" universe as a way of completely destroying the star trek history as we know it from 30 years of TV/movies/books.

The thing I did not like was Kirk. I thought his character as an obnoxious spoiled immature kid very annoying. Sure the original captain kirk had an attitude, shoot first ask questions later, womanizing, macho man but he was a character I could like. The new kirk acting as a tom cruise maverick wanna-be simply made the movie seem like a cheesy teen sci-fi action movie. I found him about as irritating as Jar Jar Binks in Episode 1.

The transition from fighting in the bar, to starfleet officer, then weaseling his way into the captain's chair was less believable than the artificially created blackhole that out of billions of years managed to dump the romulans 25 years in the past.

Lastly I thought the plot was too similar to that of the last star trek movie. Rogue romulan in a big bad ship causing trouble for starfleet, how original....

I believe you are confused, it dropped them over 100 years in the past...then they waited for 25 years from the time that they were dropped in for spock to be dropped...which was 25 years for them and seconds for spock.

Are you serious?

Tom Cruise wanna be using cheesy starfleet regulations to work his way up the starfleet totem pole fighting rogue angry
romulan sent 25 100 years in the past via black hole is better than a classic good v evil, revenge story, with motiffs of
son v father conflict???

Star Trek II arguebly saved the series and brought the franchise back to the mainlight. As a random movie goer who never
really watched Star trek before; I probably would have been entertained as a stand alone movie. As a continuation of a franchise,
meant to bring in a new generation, and revive a fading legacy; while apparently successful I was disappointed and I am
not even a trekkie. I can not imagine what the true big star trek fans thought of this movie.

Star Trek FC 91%
Star Trek II 90%
Star Trek IV 84%
Star Trek VI 82%
Star Trek III 76%
Star Trek Ins. 55%
Star Trek 1 50%
Star Trek Gen. 49%
Star Trek Nem. 36%
Star Trek V 21%"

I'd rank em

ST FC
ST II
ST VI
ST IV
ST Gen
ST XI
ST III
ST Ins
ST Nem
ST I
ST V

Are they really? May as well be a straight to DVD movie. This kind of reminds me of that South Park episode where
George Lucas and Steven Spielberg want to remake Raiders of the Lost Ark.

Sorry I was off by an error margin of 50*10^-10 years of the timeline of the universe.
out of billions of years managed to dump the romulans 25100 years in the past.

GRRR how could you spock not get to the romulan homeworld fast enough to deflect the supernova shock wave from destroying romulus.

"Would not Kirk also be emotionally compromised because Nero killed his father? It was a weak way to get Kirk into the captain's chair IMO.
"

This was my biggest problem. I fail to believe a starfleet veteran (spock) and a professional military crew of a starship
would simply let a hot-headed, rookie brat, who went against orders smuggling himself on the enterprise, mutinied against
the acting captain (spock), and managed to sneak back on board after being marooned off the ship to appoint himself
captain by picking a fight due to some regulation.

If anything a real government or orgainization would be hauling this guy's ass to the brig even if he did managed to take over
the ship, once he got back to earth.

actually it is a pretty big error as this conflict with the star threatening to destroy the galaxy would not occur in any of their lifetimes (humans). and it was over 100, 180 years? something along those lines.

dunno... sounds like some young kirk shit to me if i've ever heard it

which makes me wonder

a young picard movie would be kind of neat... but i would guess it would be too boring for an audience to watch... filled with deep thinking on a moon, Shakespeare and vineyards

Star Trek II remains my favorite Star Trek but it definitely didn't have the character development this movie did. The Kahn character updated would make a great Star Trek villian though and thats kind of the crux of the problem with Star Trek in general: there's no real villain in most of the movies. This tends to make each movie a bit of a glorified episode.

The destruction of Vulcan is a huge loss for the Federation, which in turn opens up the writers to really create some epic villain type characters and even a story arc, should they chose that format.

I've said it before but I think Vulcan being destroyed gives new inspiration to the Genesis project.

yeah but spock had supposedly already found a suitable planet at the end of the movie

but who knows it could be Veridian 3, and Malcom McDowell is someday going to stop fucking little boys and fuck that shit up

the Genesis project is years away, but Spock might know how to jumpstart it

they need to bring in the gardian of forever somehow
