some nerd/faggot on another board wants to know why there are no gay characters in this diverse politically correct Star Trek universemy response: in the future, they have cured the mental illness that is homosexualityalso my thoughts: in some future movie they should have the crew travel to the "real" timeline somehow, it cant be hard to do, Worf jumped timelines whenever La Forge got close to him after he piloted a shuttlecraft through some invisible anomolythen maybe send them to something as bad or worse than Riker's "the Borg is everywhere" timeline before they get home]

^ You mean like Star Trek IV?Also, there has been female on female action in trek
12/4/2009 10:06:35 AM
i think he means the regular star trek universe as opposed to this alternate reality the new franchise is in.
12/4/2009 10:12:23 AM
There was an episode where Riker had relations with a sexually ambiguous alien.
12/4/2009 10:19:56 AM
There was an episode when two chicks kissed. ("jadzia dax" and "lenara khan")There was an episode in the alternate universe where major kira is bisexual

Pff. It's not gay if its two women.

I'll give them a pass on blowing up Vulcan because that really sets things up for 'War Trek' and a darker, more militaristic Starfleet. That sort of shit translates into movies better then trying to solve some complex humanitarian mission. Not everything can be Star Trek VI after all. That being said, no more fucking time travel.

Finally saw the movie two weeks ago. I can maybe buy the time warping red matter bullshit and creating a new "alternative" universe as a way of completely destroying the star trek history as we know it from 30 years of TV/movies/books.The thing I did not like was Kirk. I thought his character as an obnoxious spoiled immature kid very annoying. Sure the original captain kirk had an attitude, shoot first ask questions later, womanizing, macho man but he was a character I could like. The new kirk acting as a tom cruise maverick wanna-be simply made the movie seem like a cheesy teen sci-fi action movie. I found him about as irritating as Jar Jar Binks in Episode 1.The transition from fighting in the bar, to starfleet officer, then weaseling his way into the captain's chair was less believable than the artificially created blackhole that out of billions of years managed to dump the romulans 25 years in the past.Lastly I thought the plot was too similar to that of the last star trek movie. Rogue romulan in a big bad ship causing trouble for starfleet, how original....[Edited on December 4, 2009 at 3:14 PM. Reason : a]

Star Trek II remains my favorite Star Trek but it definitely didn't have the character development this movie did. The Kahn character updated would make a great Star Trek villian though and thats kind of the crux of the problem with Star Trek in general: there's no real villain in most of the movies. This tends to make each movie a bit of a glorified episode. The destruction of Vulcan is a huge loss for the Federation, which in turn opens up the writers to really create some epic villain type characters and even a story arc, should they chose that format.
