I think Home Depot corporate has cut at least 1/3 of their workers since 2006. I started that June and they laid off at least 1200 people by the time I got the hell out of there last year. they just laid of another 1000 or so last monththat place is going in the shitter real fast. my old boss (who left shortly before I did) and I have discussions about what it most closely resembles - k-mart or eastern airlines - in terms of their failure to fix themselvesin short, fuck that place

Anyone else see the B-17 flying over atlanta today? Did some research and apparently it's the Liberty Belle...in town last weekend and this weekend flying charters around the area to raise money for Angel Flight of Georgia. Pretty cool to hear the old drum of the props...I can only imagine what it must have been like to be on the ground when a whole bombing run rolled over head in WWII.I wish I had know about it before - might have been worth the 500 bucks to take a flight
2/21/2009 7:42:11 PM
oh man, i missed it. did it fly out of pdk or dobbins? i may go see if i can find it tomorrow and take some pics.
2/21/2009 10:24:00 PM

2/23/2009 3:12:22 PM
^ I go there fairly often for lunch with one of the partners in my office. It's his favorite lunch spot in Atlanta, and I can't complain about the good fried chicken and collards...

2/23/2009 11:02:34 PM
^^ ponce downtown, somewhat near the Fox.I am looking at a condo a block and a half from the Brick Store. I just wish there was more to do in Decatur. It needs a good live music venue and a club.
2/24/2009 12:03:12 AM

2/27/2009 2:32:30 PM
i'd imagine a taxi is the best bet
2/27/2009 3:08:29 PM

god dammit. It snows in Raleigh several times but I am in Atlanta. The one weekend I come to Raleigh and it snows in Atlanta. dammit
3/1/2009 2:37:20 PM
^you'll probably be stuck in raleigh unless you're really lucky. this storm is going to impact the entire east coast. forecasting 6+ inches in raleigh last I watcheddefinitely the most snow I've seen in atlanta since I moved here in 2004makes me realize how much i miss living in the north[Edited on March 1, 2009 at 2:54 PM. 3/1/2009 2:53:44 PM
i never expected for there to be this much snow, especially considering it was like 60 yesterday.
3/1/2009 2:57:48 PM
3/1/2009 3:12:44 PM
pfft you are missing out on all kinds of drunk fun
3/1/2009 4:06:30 PM
I love snow... but dont fly out until Wed morning so hopefully there wont be any delays by then
3/1/2009 9:58:00 PM
two of my friends had flights canceled tonight. fox5 is doing their best to turn this into the blizzard of the century. OMG! SLUSH IN THE PARKING LOTS LOOK OUT!!! yay for snow in the south. that being said, i do expect a long commute in the morning.
3/1/2009 10:15:20 PM
^ yeah, the commute is going to be horriblei went outside about an hour ago to see how the parking lot was, i wanted to get an idea of the possible ice accumulation. there hasnt been any yet, but i did have to bust the ice off my heat pump so it would get out of defrost mode
3/1/2009 11:59:14 PM
My commute was fine this morning, then when I got to work I was looking at the ajc and read about that car going into a lake off Terrell Mill Rd and the people dying. That is like a block from my office, I saw the news crews when I left to go home around 6....
3/2/2009 8:28:04 PM
yeah, mine was fine too, i left about 7:30 am there was a bit of ice on 85, but it was on the side of the roadit was kind of annoying having kids running around at tech today because they didnt have school, some parents brought them
3/2/2009 11:29:01 PM
so i am going to be in atlanta at the end of the month for work. i will probably have an evening or so to hang out, where do you suggest i go?
3/6/2009 4:45:22 PM
are you open to going to any area in ATL or do you want to stay around where your hotel will be - also what night
3/6/2009 5:06:47 PM
anyone going to the ACC tourny? I am "working from home" on Thursday
3/8/2009 3:59:34 PM
i will be there teh week of the 22. im staying in the Hotel distric and the convention is at the georgia world congress center. i will probably stay in this area, but if there is something worth seeing then i am willing to go
3/13/2009 8:35:34 AM
what all are you into?
3/13/2009 2:00:11 PM
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hotel_Districthuh, i've lived in atlanta for almost 4 years now and never knew that area was called the hotel district. you're right by the acquarium and all that stuff. i think its worth checking out if you really don't want to leave that general area. there's some decent restaurants and bars and stuff up along in there too. i wouldn't venture too far south or west of the congress center, it gets ghetto pretty quickly if you do.
3/14/2009 3:32:13 PM
hotel district? pffht...that's some made up shit so people don't have to say they live downtownand on that note, whenever I hear someone say "poncey-highlands" I want to punch them in the fucking face...if you don't live on the north side of ponce, you don't live in the fucking highlands....quit trying to church it up[Edited on March 15, 2009 at 8:17 AM. 3/17/2009 7:28:23 PM
have you guys heard anything about the ga legislature passing a $3600 state tax credit similar to the federal $8k tax credit for new home buyers? i'm looking to buy a place, who here owns their home? i know its sort of a private matter, but what neighborhood are you in and how much was it listed for when you bought it? I'm only asking for comparative reasons. feel free PM if you don't want to discuss openly.
3/19/2009 11:34:16 PM
lots available relatively cheap in buckhead now, and prices will skyrocket once things get back to normal, and everything is built up...
3/20/2009 12:08:08 AM
buckhead and midtown are extremely overbuilt right now, values in those hoods ain't going back up for years...
3/20/2009 10:05:28 AM
I disagree with that... midtown I think you are correct... but Buckhead is about to triple the amount of retail space and be the highest end shopping in the country outside of NY and LA. A janitors closet will be worth something in 5 years. And the political power there ($$) and CID will make sure all infrastructure/facilities will remain at a good level... but when I say Buckhead I mean actual Buckhead, basically from Peachtree Dunwoody to Pharr along Peachtree, not talking about 2 miles up Roswell Road
3/20/2009 10:14:59 AM
anyone ever been up to cloudland canyon in NW georgia? I'm thinking of heading up there for some backpacking
3/22/2009 11:54:17 PM
no, but i've been to fort mountain and bear creek in elijay. there's a couple primitive campsites along a hiking (10mile?) trail at fort mountain as well as a state maintained campground. there's a first come first serve primitive camping area at bear creek. there's parking for ~10 cars, but you can spread out pretty well and not be right on top of others. its mostly mountain bike trails and fire roads at bear creek, but nothing that says you can't hike them. my friend said amicolola (sp?) falls and telula gorge is nice, but i've never personally been myself.
3/23/2009 6:23:57 PM
