Hadn't thought about this thread in a while. Still reading Deadpool even though it's nowhere near the brilliance of the first 3 issues. Who the hell is Tigershark, anyway?
2/3/2009 8:34:51 PM
i doubt many Big-2 comics are going to match those three issuesalsoANYONE ELSE SO DAMN EXCITED FOR GAIMAN'S "Whatever Happened to the Caped Crusader?"there are a few pages online nowshits going to be amazing"I was here at the beginning, figured I should be here for the end"
2/3/2009 8:38:06 PM
^^^ @ GroundBeef - i use http://community.livejournal.com/scans_daily/ a lot to keep up with comics without buying themyou can generally search the tags to find what you're looking forits not going to be whole issues, but there are generally recaps and explanations for the parts that don't get scannedthere is also a site that similarly posts whole booksbut i, like tww, don't support piracy so i'm not going to link it
2/3/2009 8:42:47 PM
Anyone else read any Star Wars comics? I know that's like nerd squared, but some of the stuff Dark Horse is putting out now is pretty good IMO.I'm liking the Legacy series so far (set like 130 years after Episode 4).
2/3/2009 8:45:15 PM
Well, prices are starting to make the jump up to $3.99... If a majority of titles make the leap, there's no way I can continue reading. I just noticed New Avengers made the change last week.
2/4/2009 7:49:20 AM
Just finished up Y: The Last Man and now I'm all
2/4/2009 8:58:23 AM
have you tried Fables? that might be a good vertigo fix for you.
2/4/2009 11:42:19 AM
^^ i still have about 20 issues to go in that. not sure why i stopped reading, it's good stuff. thanks for reminding me that i didn't finish it.
2/4/2009 12:10:29 PM
Yeah my brother is ass-deep into Fables, so I'm going for that next. I did the same thing but on purpose. I didn't want the story to end, but I'm glad I finished it up. I re read the first 9 trades like 6 times
2/4/2009 1:06:03 PM
I'm stuck in Y the Last Man because the library doesn't carry one of the trades due to graphic nature. Also stuck on Fables because I can't seem to get the next trade, even when I request it.
2/4/2009 1:35:37 PM
I was about to ask if any library has these. My brother lives in NYC, so he gets any trade he wants, but in Raleigh, and not being a student, I'm hoping I don't have to start buying.
2/4/2009 2:49:14 PM
libraries here have the mainstream xmen, spiderman, superman, batman stuff and a ton of vertigo stuff.
2/4/2009 3:37:01 PM
This week's pullSecret Warriors (really good)Deadpool (Can't wait for WW vs Thunderbolts)ASM (Meh)WoK: Darkhawk (Sucked)Immortal Iron Fist (Okay issue)
2/4/2009 11:19:12 PM
2/4/2009 11:53:55 PM
Yep, more than likely the one called Girl on Girl. Lots of boob across the whole series though.
2/5/2009 9:35:21 AM
OK, so after just getting the newest issue of Deadpool yesterday... WTF? It took 3 issues of complete irrelevance to bring a story arc around back to Norman Osborne? And what's this business about SHIELD? What exactly is he doing? Since I don't read other Marvel books anymore, I am pretty out of the loop. From the ads in the book, though, I am guessing this Dark Reign line has something to do with Stark losing control of SHIELD to Osborne. So how was Secret Invasion ever resolved?
2/5/2009 3:19:20 PM
*spoiler*Norman shot and killed the head skrull. everyone saw it and he was proclaimed the hero. tony stark was ousted and SHIELD doesnt exist anymore. Norman created HAMMER and is now the Iron Patriot, leader of the Dark Avengers.
2/5/2009 6:10:32 PM
Um... what? The big story arc in Deadpool was that he'd been hired by Nick Fury to obtain detailed bio data on the Skrulls so that SHIELD could identify them and bring them down. Osborne intercepted the data, and he does what with it? Just shoots the leader of the Skrulls? And where did Osborne come from anyway? And what do Tony Stark and Nick Fury have to think about him? This whole business is really sounding dumb to me.
2/6/2009 11:50:50 AM
Correct me if I'm wrong because this is pretty limited knowledge - but Osborne had been in charge of the Thunderbolts who had gained more power due to the Initiative. During the big final fight Wolverine was about to kill the Queen when Osborne killed her instead. The president decided Tony was a big screw up and dismantled SHIELD and created HAMMER, which Osborne was in charge of. He then created the Dark Avengers who look like previous Avengers. He also has a Dark Illuminati group set up with Doom, Namor and some others who are up to no good.
2/6/2009 11:56:06 AM
It's a Marvel universal story line. Every book (almost every) is affected by Dark Reign.Deadpool - Was hired by Fury to get Skrull intel. Intel was intercepted by Osborn and Osborn used it to help save the day. Deadpool didn't get paid and is now pissed that Osborn fucked his payment upOsborn - Was in charge of the Thunderbolts. Thunderbolts single handedly save Washington DC from Skrull invasion. This was caught on TV. Then Osborn flies Thunderbolts to NY where the rest of the Skrulls were attacking. At the end of the battle (caught on live broadcast from afar) Norman scores the winning shot and killed the Skrull leader. He becomes a hero twice in one day. At the end of the day Osborn blamed Stark (who was in charge of shield) for "helping" the skrull invasion. And that Starktec was hacked by the Skrulls and that Oscorp stuff wouldn't have been so easily hacked. This helped him get the Starks old job as leader of SHIELD. Osborn then disbands SHIELD for a new Organization called HAMMER. Norman now in charge of SHIELD/HAMMER has made a new team of AVENGERS. He's taken the old Thunderbolts and made them into AVENGERS in the old hero's clothes. Bullseye -> Hawkeye. Moonstone -> Ms. Marvel. Daken -> Wolverine. Venom -> Spiderman. Norman -> Iron Patriot.Deadpool is was pissed at Norman for screwing him. Now the Tigershark storyarc let Deadpool know that Osborn is trying to kill him. This means Deadpool is going to go after the new team of Thunderbolts.

interesting, i never read much spiderman so hearing venom being a hero is kind of weirdanyone got any updates on the new x-men cartoon or when it starts?
2/6/2009 8:26:53 PM
i wouldnt necessarily call venom a hero now... he's still straight up psychotic and eats peopleand don't even try to comprehend eddie brock's new persona - anti-venom...
2/6/2009 8:41:48 PM
You know any good TPB's with venom going nuts or are there any with anti-venom that are any good? One with carnage would be nice too, the symbiotes always interest me.I have ultimate spiderman carnage and venom, and the venom vs. carnage when toxin comes about (coolest art ever)
2/6/2009 8:44:54 PM
You know what they really fucked up on? Squadron Supreme. So pissed about that. They had such a good thing going then they brought in Ultimate Nick Fury and took away all the grit of the limited series. Bullchit.

Has anyone read the center X-Factor? It certainly had an interesting twist.I've also been following following King Breaker, just to see the follow up from the Rise & Fall of the Shi'ar Empire, and the Cable comic and the limited series Bishop comic as follows up the Messiah Complex.X-Force has been a little off recently, but over all its been one of the best x-books coming out these days. And I was surprised that I was enjoying X-Infernus as much as I have... I guess its just nice to see some good old fashioned beat downs against people who are clearly the enemies. Dopplegangers, skrulls, shapeshifters, clones, impersonators, robots in disguise, and all that where you never know who is who, or who is the bad guy gets old after a while, but X-Infernus has just been the good guys with Colossus, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Pixie, and a few of the previously young x-men tracking down Colossus' sister and killing things that are clearly evil with no ambiguity, and I like that.
2/13/2009 3:01:24 PM
holy shit i've watched episodes 1-16 of wolverine and the x-men and it is better than the first animated series. It is really fucking awesome and the only plot anomaly I've noticed is that it sais Mystique was a part of weapon X (is this true?). It also has an episode with Nitro in it which is cool b/c it shows current characters and a few weapon X episodes with maverick, sabretooth, hulk, and x-23 shows her face
2/13/2009 6:14:38 PM
^Where have you found the episodes? My usual spots only have the first couple of them.
2/13/2009 6:24:17 PM
I got mine on newsgroups
2/13/2009 8:15:18 PM
I haven't seen Wolverine & the X-Men yet, but I picked up the Hulk v. Thor & Hulk v. Wolverine dvd on impulse at Best Buy the other day, and on their coming to dvd attractions it said Wolverine & the X-Men season 1 will be on DVD April 2009. So I'll have to catch it there if I can't find it anywhere else.

Deadpool overexposure, anyone? In one month:Deadpool: Games of DeathDeadpool: Suicide KingsDeadpool #9Thunderbolts #130Cable #13X-Force/Cable: Messiah WarI haven't bought this many comics in one month in at least a decade now. I sure do love Deadpool, though. Suicide Kings looks to be the best of the bunch so far.The art in Messiah War is quite impressive. I wonder how long this story arc will go?

I noticed this was on sale at Amazon, if anybody is interested:http://www.amazon.com/40-Years-of-the-X-Men/dp/B000E28UT2/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top

I'm curious about something happening in Cable/X-Force that I'm not clear on. Around what time (or year) does Bishop find Stryfe and help him take down Apocalypse? Am I wrong in assuming that in the most recent Cable story, Stryfe has already taken Apocalypse down? (Deadpool's explanation makes it seem that way.) If so, how did Bishop have anything to do with making that happen...?Keeping track of what happens when in Cable stories can cause headaches.
4/13/2009 9:57:58 PM
bit off topic but I am blowing through Fables. Can't believe I just got around to it, but reading 3 years of comics in 3 months is awesome.

Free Comic Book Day is Today! http://ultimatecomicsonline.com/http://www.freecomicbookday.com/Also, the Wolverine movie is out this weekend.
5/2/2009 6:34:03 AM
I just read Utopia (an Uncanny X-men & Dark Avengers cross over) series that started this week whose story is going to run for about 6 issues. The X-men are in San Francisco and fighting against Proposition X, a proposed law to sterilize all mutants. While they’re laying on the allegory a bit thick, it’s actually one of the better comics I’ve read in a while.Another series I’m reading has wolverine fighting against Blackguard (as in their version of the controversial Blackwater corporation located in North Carolina) which are mercenaries for hire to assist the US army that are pedaling in Weapon X tech in a very bad way. I tend to enjoy comics more when they take the action of comics & combine it with real world issues/politics. I guess it’s why I’m a fan of the ubiquitous Law & Order ripped from the headlines shows.

Disney buys Marvelhttp://www.nytimes.com/2009/09/01/business/media/01disney.html?em
8/31/2009 12:12:48 PM
^ That's big news. I see it as being a double-edged sword, though. Marvel plugs into the giant global network that is Disney. But will Marvel characters be changed in some way as a result?
8/31/2009 12:46:26 PM
I doubt it, Disney doesn't seem to interfere too often with the projects of it's studios. They owned Miramax when Pulp Fiction came out for example.I'm not concerned about the comics at all, but slightly concerned about the movies, since they are published by multiple studios.
