I challenge you to reassess who exactly the "we" you're referring to is because my "we" are in a period of global ecological collapse, decreasing life expectancy, and wage stagnation amidst ever rise cost of living. Certainly that "we" does not include the 123 million workers living paycheck to paycheck, 500,000 American children growing up with lead in their blood, the 700,000 people sleeping on the street tonight or the 450,000 incarcerated for non-violent drug offenses. If a world with 70 million refugees, an $800B military budget, a 20-year ongoing war, and combat in 7 countries is what you call "unprecented peace", I ask you to reassess your definition of peace.

Here is the difference between you, a socialist, and me, a free-thinking capitalist. I am not afraid to share opinions that conflict with my opinion. However, I can also be transparent and post both sides of the argument. For any one who is intellectually honest, below is a good summary of the dispute between Hickel and Pinker, that looks at the arguments from both sides. The main takeaway:

3/5/2020 7:10:44 PM
Biden is trumps best case scenario to debate. I originally thought trump would skip the debates but I think he would debate Biden. He wouldn’t even attempt if it was warren or sanders.
3/6/2020 1:01:42 AM
I mean, if this years debates are any indication, Biden isn’t going to do that well versus Trump. Not that he will do awful. He didn’t even do well against Sarah Palin.
3/6/2020 1:55:11 AM
So Trump is now blaming Obama for the pandemic? WTF? He undid Obama's policies/procedures for pandemic readiness in the first place. What a POS.
3/6/2020 3:30:52 AM
I’m actually surprised how little talk on here there has been about just how awful and dangerous the administrations response has been. People are going to die from it and it basically is an afterthought.Again, not to sound like a broken record but the only one I’ve seen consistently beat the drum on how awful and why the response is disastrous has been Hayes. The rest seem to think of it as something political that Trump has to overcome to prop up his economy.[Edited on March 6, 2020 at 6:17 AM. Reason : X]

^^ I’ve talked to a lot of people who think it’s being overhyped. These are not people who watch Fox News but for some reason they don’t think it’s different from the flu. The key thing is people don’t seem to grasp rates and percentages... one person even said since the polls were wrong about Hillary these statistics must also be wrong. I guess maybe when deaths hit a thousand people might start to pay attention.
3/8/2020 9:38:07 PM
I know a lot of intelligent people all over the political spectrum saying at least one of the following:-its manufactured panic/media hype-the death numbers could be achieved simply by counting how many old people die due to cold any year with or without a pandemic-china did this to shut down production, consolidate control, and tank the global economy as a tantrum over losing trump's trade war-theres a meme being spread explaining how every election year has a pandemic

3/9/2020 8:28:05 AM
So he's trying to keep the markets calm by suppressing the infection rate (we have among the lowest of the world) by not increasing the amount of tests fast enough? He's partnering that with blindly reassuring news. The experts are saying we don't need blanket protocols because those with age and preexisting conditions can talk it over with their doctor. Everyone else should go on with good hygiene while clusters are handled on a local level. Its not the best response but its what you should expect from capitalism. I’m struggling to understand how this is anything but a slow-play in order to prop up equity markets?

UNC, Duke, and Labcorp should be ready for testing soon

goddamnit NyM, coronavirus is your fault!
3/10/2020 2:19:16 PM
Its no one's fault. Not even Trump's. No amount of testing could stop the spread. This can't be stopped Its just a matter of how much intervention we need to slow it down and prolong it or have a lot of people get it suddenly. If its too prolonged, it will do extra damage to the economy but if its too sudden it could overwhelm the healthcare system. The happy medium is an amount of intervention where it spreads quickly but not quite enough to overwhelm hospitals. You'll know they messed up if hospitals overflow. That hasn't happened yet so the response has been fine. Italy messed up. [Edited on March 10, 2020 at 2:32 PM. Reason : italy china and iran had hospitals overwhelmed. Not us. ]
3/10/2020 2:31:33 PM
Trump is managing this perfectly, Trump is a very fit, healthy and attractive leader who has a natural understanding of pandemics. Every day people come up to him and say, "sir, how do you know so much about this?"
3/10/2020 2:39:54 PM
Hey its nobody's fault! Cool! Let's all just relax and wait for this to blow over! Problems don't have solutions!
3/10/2020 2:59:59 PM
Vietnam and South Korea effectively Stopped the spread. USA completely botched our initial response and by all accounts we’re not anywhere close to the best practices established in those countries. South Korea didn’t even enact lock downs, they just have very organized testing and quarantine for sick people. We’re not even doing what was done in 1918 to control the spread of that flu pandemic.
3/10/2020 3:01:45 PM
Yeah well its common knowledge that south korea has a better public health infrastructure than we do. We can't just overnight decide to be an advanced nation and see results. Thats a systemic issue and our system is trash. Trump didn't create our system and didn't fix it. With that said, South Korea has had 58 deaths with 5 just today displaying that even the best systems are not immune to the spread of this virus.
