I don’t think corrupt is the right world. The pardon act itself can’t be corrupt unless he’s flat out extorting people and even then a POTUS has blanket pardon power.

But he his REWARDING corruption.

It’s corrupt in the universal sense.

And probably corrupt in the legal sense too

there's a fair bit of anger there from republicans about this. If dems are smart they should be able to actually capitalize on this.

Can we make a poll on when Trump pardons Roger Stone:

- By the end of the week
- In the next 3 months
- In the next 6 months
- Final presidential pardon before leaving office in January

Apparently acting dni head grinell can’t qualify for a security clearance because of recent work for a sanctioned oligarch.

It really seems like the country is in real danger now. Intel community officials don’t have official channels to share information with congress, and if they do so secretly it makes it suspect and then subjects them to termination by trump.

The legal process would be congress asking for the court to make a ruling, but there’s no enforcement mechanism for a ruling anyway as long as the senate has gop control.

I feel like the president spreading disinformation and contradicting experts about a potential pandemic to try and prop up equity markets is probably not good. Isn’t it easier to just say nothing and defer to your experts?

Of course this is the same guy who was the most awful person on the entirety of planet earth during Ebola in 2014.

This HHS whistleblower story is something, when the americans under quarantine were repatriated HHS sent workers with no PPE, training, and gave them no testing or monitoring and just let them go kn as normal. The first us-contracted case happens to be near one of the air force bases used

Has anyone in public office ever been so obviously unfit to handle anything then Trump is in this moment?

I can’t imagine any serious person (so throw out the marks like Earl) sees him tweet-raging about Democrats at 1am when all they want is honest information about a serious situation and thinks “yeah, that’s how this should be handled.”

The only explanation I can think of for such incompetence is that either they know, or think, that it is really no worse than a severe cold or influenza.

Still pretty stunning.

the trump administration fired a lot of those people, cut budgets which got rid of more, put 3 people in charge of the same thing causing confusion on who is in charge, and the trump admin is now directing everyone they have to go through pence's press secretary to give out any info to control information

it's definitely everyone else's fault and trump isn't responsible, good point not-right-wing rjrumfel

All those layers are made up of the same people Trump continuously disparages as deep state coup plotters. Some of them probably have their name on one of John McEntee's loyalty lists.

They're the people with the knowledge, experience, and know-how Republicans have spent decades dismissing as elitism.

They're the people Trump will publicly ridicule if they do or say anything contrary to Trump's belief of the moment (see NOAA/NWS and hurricane predictions). Republicans will eagerly pile on even more harassment.

All those people you're hoping will be decent and competent are trying to avoid Trump's capriciousness. Leadership starts at the top. This is what Trump's leadership has gotten us.

^^I used to work on an government contract. My managers, their managers, their directors, etc, were so apolitical it was ridiculous. I view those HHS folks the same way - if Trump's appointees are trickling down to staff level managers, then we have problems.

^^ I too have worked for the government too.

The employees who set policy and develop agency-wide responses, who are responsible for coordinating with other agencies and other levels of governments (state and local), and are responsible for communicating with NGOs and other governments--those people are either appointees or work closely for them.

Lower level workaday employees being apolitical doesn't mean they're politically unaware. And it certainly doesn't change the fact that they ultimately take direction from and execute the policies and priorities of political appointees.

Are you really going to pretend Trump's actions, attitude and words have no bearing on the functioning of government?

You know, I've always thought Roger Stone wants to present himself as a comic book villain; here his mouth expressions really make me think of the Penguin. The Burgess Meredith Penguin, specifically.

I'm not saying that his policies and ideals don't trickle down. I'm just saying in this one specific case, perhaps the workday employees were just incompentent.

That tweet made it easier to see why MAGA is so appealing to people who are frustrated. No matter how destructive you know it is, his attacks against the establishment power appeal to a primal instinct wired into all of us. It felt GREAT to read that this morning. I'm not afraid to admit that. To deny that, would be to deny the way fascist movements can rise up and gain momentum. The antidote to that, of course, is leftist populism. Democratic socialism.

The system isn't working and there are three ways to frame why:

-Centrists use propaganda to convince people things are fundamentally good with small tweaks needed
-Fascists blame other, weaker groups of people (Mexicans! Muslims! Welfare recipients!)
-Socialists blame capitalism (Corporations and Billionaires!)

It has to be one of the three and when the propaganda apparatus loses credibility, people are either going to turn to socialism or fascism. Psychologically, its much easier to have something to blame and to direct your anger at that than it is to believe perceived systemic problems simply don't exist.

This notion that no one on the right including Trump and Tucker can ever speak truth is the same kind of thinking that Cuba can't have a good education system...on steroids. Clearly anyone who thinks Trump's insult on Warren is accurate is also a racist fascist bigot who thinks mexicans are rapists.

Tucker's monologue tonight was 100% spot on about how he was wrong about Biden being the nominee and that the establishment was underestimated and needs Biden because they can control him to fulfill their interests.
