Yeah, pretty much.I'd even go a step further, and suggest that I'm not convinced he's even that great of a recruiter. At least not great enough to overcome his coaching deficiencies.. he's got a long hole to climb out of. I hope he does, im just not holding my breath.

So, just curious about everyone's views/ideas.If we win no conference games what happens to Doeren, the coaching staff, Debbie Yow, and the team?If we win 1-3 conference games, what happens? If we win 4+ conference games, what happens? If we (by some chance of God and luck) win every conference game, what happens?
4/1/2014 6:03:29 PM
fired after this yearfired after next year if repeatsfired in 2-3 years b/c it wont be good enoughleaves after this year for a better jobThis is NC State.. come on..
4/1/2014 6:09:27 PM
0 and I'm ok with firing him.1 I'd be ok, but we could be like 5-7 with just one conf win so I think he'd just be on a real hot seat2-3 is what I expect so.. Probably a bowl game and nothing would happen4-5 would be awesome, maybe 7-8-9 wins. Still nothing would happen6-8 isn't happening, unless Jacoby is some sort of monster and the uf coaches are retarded. Still nothing, but probably a raise[Edited on April 1, 2014 at 6:27 PM. Reason : This isn't recruiting]

4/1/2014 7:08:24 PM
I agree. He needs at least 16 chances to win an ACC game.
4/1/2014 7:49:51 PM
He hasn't shown to be a great recruiter yet, nor a very good one. He has done well putting together a large class that gives a few great potential players and good shots across the board to give solid depth. But that's all hypothetical and projecting and shit, and all I know is this mug goes for it on 4th down on his own 26 or something, and ain't won a single game in conference.this year, if he wins 0 games in conference, fired. if he wins 1 game, fired.2-4 WTNY, maybe even 25+ i retract all my bullshit from this past season, dude might be our long term answer at coach. Debbie gives a 4 year extension.][Edited on April 1, 2014 at 7:57 PM. Reason : 51 freshmen and sophomores. gives leeway with > 2 wins, but jesus i have no confidence we can do it]
4/1/2014 7:55:27 PM
Calm down guys. We have Wake and BC at home. We WILL win 1 conference game.
4/1/2014 8:08:20 PM
Pete fucking Thomas and Brandon Mitchell were our QBs last year. Of course we didn't win any conference games. Calm down a bit.
4/1/2014 8:15:58 PM
oh yes lets assume Jacoby Brissett will be good enough to lead us to ACC wins[Edited on April 1, 2014 at 8:46 PM. Reason : maybe he will do better this spring game][Edited on April 1, 2014 at 8:47 PM. Reason : or maybe freshman mclendon will save us!]
4/1/2014 8:44:30 PM
I'm not thinking Brissett is the second coming. But I really think he's gotta be a sizable upgrade from the Thomas/Mitchell disaster.

4/1/2014 9:03:32 PM
That's not the point I was making. If a coach has to rely on the skill of his QB, without being able to coach him to competent levels, then that coach fucking sucks at coaching. It's not like we haven't had bad QBs before. We have. A halfway competent coach can get at least one conference win out of them, though.[Edited on April 1, 2014 at 9:33 PM. Reason : QB cop out excuses are for amateurs, yo.]
4/1/2014 9:30:16 PM
please take this silly talk to the credibility thread, and we can have a discussion over there about how doeren didn't coach-up pete thomas over the course of one season.[Edited on April 1, 2014 at 9:37 PM. Reason : and leave this thread for recruiting, please?]
4/1/2014 9:35:30 PM
It's not that I'm incapable of separating the two items. It's just that until he shows that he can win in the ACC, his recruiting rankings will be irrelevant.Still, though...that high school playoff experience should come in handy when we play Charlotte Independence.
4/1/2014 10:09:03 PM
Are you a troll?
4/1/2014 10:13:32 PM
Anybody else notice that the state logo is photoshopped in on that infographic?
4/1/2014 10:35:33 PM
So apparently 2015 OT Philip Walton did commit. Another guy from Charlotte.
4/2/2014 10:00:47 AM
4.1 gpaProbably means he sucks. Come on, look at UNC. You gotta recruit dummies not scholar athletes if you wanna win.
4/2/2014 10:30:16 AM
I'm no expert in football recruiting, but I don't put a lot of stock in ratings of offensive lineman. First, they don't normally play right away...so you usually get a chance to develop them. You can put a lot of weight, strength, and skill on in a couple years. You can't teach size...so as long as they are tall and have a frame to put weight on...then that's good. Our last two extremely highly recruited o-lineman haven't amounted to shit. Derek Morris was fucking abysmal and Crisp has been injured half the time (still hoping he has a final solid season). So you won't see me getting depressed over NR o-lineman. Get 'em in and get 'em fed and hope they develop.[Edited on April 2, 2014 at 10:51 AM. Reason : .]

Offensive line is where the bread is buttered in college football. You rarely seen a truly dominant team that doesn't have a monster line. Just look at Bama for example, their most top rated prospects annually tend to be linemen and their skill positions (outside of Julio) have been a bunch of overrated prospects or flat out busts.[Edited on April 2, 2014 at 11:01 AM. Reason : ...]

Could not agree more.

4/2/2014 12:12:03 PM
I've seen suggestions that Walton will be at high-end 3* by the time he's evaluated.Huge frame, use to be a competitive swimmer, still learning the position. Last article I read sounded like he'd mostly been used on DL but is switching exclusively to OT to prepare for college. Obviously not a candidate to come in and be an impact player day 1, but 6'7" and athletic, shouldn't be hard to bulk him up to a more appropriate playing weight. Plenty of potential. With the limited scholarship numbers this year, anyone we accept a commitment from this early is likely someone the coaches really want.

4/2/2014 2:13:06 PM
yeah I can't really think of any good RB's they've had recently.
4/2/2014 2:22:56 PM
^^ What's not to understand? Outside of Julio, who's tearing it up from there? Ingram and Richardson have been the biggest names since, and I wouldn't say either has set the world on fire. Lacey had a good rookie year, but I'm not ready to crown him at all after 1 year. The left side of that line went that won back to back titles, went back to back as well in the draft last year at 10 and 11. Barrett Jones went in the 4th. That line was as dominate as anything we've seen lately in cfb.
4/2/2014 2:26:47 PM
Why the fuck are we talking about how well their guys are doing in the NFL. We've got plenty of NC State guys in the NFL...I want them to crush it in college.
4/2/2014 2:28:51 PM
Are we talking about Bama players in the NFL? Because that's not really a fair assessment of how good those recruits were in college.

^^That team won despite Stone's suckage. It had the #1 defense in the nation and the future #1 pick in the NFL Draft on the team. The offense also had an NFL starter at RB.
