dont understand why everyone is distraught like we were huge favorites vs Illinois. We were small underdogs by the lines but in everyone's mind we shouldve blown them out.

typical state fans disconnect with reality. I'll admit it happens to me too

I get why people are upset. We lost our best out of conference game to an average team at best and we looked terrible doing it. Now, we do usually get better with Gott as the season goes but the defense is scaring me so far.

I heard some of his comments about the Illinois game and he said something to the effect of "To call our defense bad would be a compliment" and then went on to talk about how they are addressing it in practice. It's a little comforting to me that he recognizes the issue and doesn't just plan to approach it like "they gotta guard us too pal".

Frankly, this is ridiculous. We have now fallen below Wake Forest, Davidson, and UNC-W.

Think about that for a minute. We are moving in the direction of becoming the worst team in NC.

Who is next UNC-A, Winthrop, or Elon???? They'd probably all hang 80 on us.

Okay I'm officially on the fire gottfried bandwagon. He did okay but it's over. We aren't gonna be able to field a competitive program under him after this.

I absolutely LOVE Kevin Keatts. Let's start pumping him on all the pack pride boards and such so he gets proper recognition

He comes from the Rick Pitino / Louisville coaching tree so he's got great pedigree. They ply absolutely balls to the wall on defense and transitioj offense. They pump 3s and move the ball on offense It's beautiful style to watch and highly effective.

He turned uncw from a horrible program to a formidable one in 2 years. Winning their conference last year in year 2 and nearly defeating duke in the NCAA tournament. They took it to them in spurts with 2 star recruits against Grayson allen and Brandon ingram.

He is HIGHLY qualified in my opinion and I'd much prefer a guy like him to a washout from a high profile conference. He'd actually take the job too.

KEVIN KEATTES!!!!!!!

OK. I'll put it this way he should definitely be gone if we miss the tournament and he should probably be gone if we barely make it. Frankly this team is absurdly bad given the talent level

I didn't expect us to be "good" but this team "sucks donkey balls"

So I think he has to get a few points cred for going with the small ball and relying on Beej to be the rim stopper in that matchup zone. 4 super athletic guards/wings and long arms on the block.

Lots of talent, sure, but they are basically all new pieces. Even the likes of Roy, Coach K and Calipari have had to go through the growing pains of assembling a new team of fresh faces.

Wrong. You can't have hard rules of firing someone like that. What if DSJ blows his knee up again? Or Omer turns radical Izlam? N one can predict NC State Shit.

Kentucky missed the tournament a few years ago and lost in the first round of the NIT to a bottom-ranked Robert MOrris, and I'm sure they did it with multiple AAs (only a year after winning the national championship). And Duke lost a first-rounder to a 15-seeded Lehigh, and again to a 14-seeded Mercer, also with multiple AAs....

i think it would be less forgivable. you win a national championship, the next season you have a top3 recruiting class, multiple McDonald's All Americans, and you miss the tournament and lose in the first round in the NIT?

Oh bullshit. You're telling me that the same fans who hold onto a championship that happened when most of us were babies AND/OR not even born yet, would turn on a coach after multiple championships or final fours? Get out of here. State fans are dying for some kind of championship and would likely crown a coach for life if he ever gave us one.

The ratio of support NCState fans give to the amount of success they receive from their teams has to be among the most completely out-of-wack of any fanbase in the country.

When Roy or Cal have a season like Bullet is describing, I think it speaks more about that coaches ability to coach x's and o's and not being able to adapt his roster to put his team in the best place to win.

But do I think they should be on the hot seat because of a bad season because they constantly showed an ability to win? Hell no.

^^I'm talking about the fans that say "we have the Xth, Yth and Zth ranked high school kids, Final Four or bust" and just have ridiculous expectations in the first place. It's similar to the Panthers fans who think Ron Rivera should be fired for having a 5-8 record, after going 17-2 as recently as last season.

If we ever win a championship with Gott, it would be inspite of him, not because he is a coaching legend. If an year or two after winning the ACC/NCAAT, our results fall dramatically, I would be fine with canning him. Find a good young coach(read Archie) while our program is trendy. Till then though, I'm happy with the respectable job he's doing.

You are apparently one of the morons that TT is talking about. You can't separate a coach from the results on the floor--especially in college bball. If Gott wins us a championship, he can have a lifetime extension as far as I am concerned and probably my firstborn as well.

And you can't separate a good coaching job from a player carrying a team to a Championship, which I'm pretty sure is how Gott will win one, if any. Maybe Auburn should have stuck with Chizik rather than fire him just 3 years after a Natl Championship. Dumbfuckes like you making decisions is what causes programs to careen into a decades-long decline.

Who recruits the player who "carries" us to a national championship? Who recruited all the talent around him?

Chizik is such a terrible example because they have achieved less since he left and he didn't recruit most of the players that won him the championship. Thanks for making my point I guess? Maybe they should have kept him.

Auburn football is a tier above NC State basketball. They've had 3 national championships since 1983 and 5 conference championships since 1987. Not exactly a great example.

You guys are being retarded. Nerlens Noel was injured and Kentucky was playing with The "Hot Garbage Duo" Ryan Harrow and Julius Mays

Wiljter was an "all American" in name only his body wasn't ready for high major cbk.

They had freshman poythress, Godwin, and cauley stein. Everyone left early because they'd just won a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP and had a bunch of draft picks.

This is 4th year for Anya, 3rd Abu, 3rd henderson, 2nd dorn, 2nd mav... and Smith was here in the spring.

Yet we look like a team who just met each other at the gym and isn't sure which basket we are defending yet.

This team is absolutely brutal given its talent level. Sure you guys overrated them but it was realistic to think we were a top 30-40 team. Instead, we stink

i mean...4th year anya doesn't mean shit if he's a bad basketball player 90% of the time. and abu sure as hell doesn't look like anything special so far this season. veteran status is kinda meaningless if the players with all the "veteran experience" aren't that good.

and i'm not disagreeing with your premise...just saying that bragging about anya's experience is pointless.

and its disingenuous to say its henderson's 3rd year and smith here in the spring as they were both recovering from injuries during that time, and Mav has missed basically every game.

Also Henderson and Dorn have been playing well.

DSJ has been forcing too much, being too careless and being lazy on D. The last one is tough to cure. But he has still been pretty great and got us to OT then won the same saturday.

Anya is anya, i'm not sure what more you can do for someone that refuses to follow a diet

Abu at this point i really the only one i can blame the coaches for. Although I do think you have to consider he spent the summer trying to change his game to be more NBA ready. It could be he just doenst have that skill set and should have spent the summer working on perfecting the best parts of the game.

Kap and Abu cant seem to figure out fouling, thats prob partially coaches partially new rules. I think we can expect Yurt to struggle with this for at least a few games.

I disagree. Our offense isn't a problem our defense is a travesty and it isn't a function of athleticism.

That's on the coaching staff. It's been the exact same issue every single season. It does not matter who we get, our team underperforms, period.

Perhaps yurt salvages our season but i am not holding my knutesac

Maybe not right away, but he's a 7-footer with good hands, good awareness, and good vision and a decent shot. He's also really good on the offensive glass.

In theory, he's going to punish teams that double team Smith on the pick-and-roll. Teams are doubling Smith hard right now because they know our screen setters -- Anya, Abu, Kapita, etc -- aren't doing jackshit if they get the ball at the top of the key. Yurt should change that, either with the pick and pop, roll, or a quick pass out to the wings.

Sounds good in theory. We'll see

And even more importantly he's fit and has the legs and lungs to get up and down the floor quickly for 30+ minutes.

As often as we get beat off the dribble, I'd really prefer to see Gott bite the bullet and let the guys play zone more. It gives Anya a chance to breath and puts him where he's most effective when he's on the court in addition to protecting our team from easy baskets when the other team blows by players off the dribble.

Abu's 17 footer has been on point this year. Much better than last year. I dont think our issue is converting double teams on P'nR.

Yeah our zone defense has been horrific in years past.

We played zone against Creighton by putting all our players on one side of the court and daring them to shoot from the other side. How'd that go?
