MY CAT KNOWS, AND JUDGES ME

The only thing cats do is judge you and look down on you.

two questions: anyone here ever do anything with the technician? i'd love to do some photography for them, pass some free time this next year.and 2: i took this picture on a recent study abroad in mexico. not the greatest picture i've ever taken...but i feel like if someone can bring out the sunset in the background more, it'll look really cool

picked up a tokina 28mm f/2.8 for $20...not a spectacular lens, but it was new and sealed and for $20, i figure i can't go wrong

Took this one the other day waiting for my helicopter to come in...
7/2/2010 4:06:29 PM
okay, talk to me about circular polarizing filters...i found a sunpak (cheap, i know) in box of a couple of filters i had set aside (some older orange and red nikon filters that the guy gave me when i bought the d40) and i'm not especially educated as to what this actually does, being circular, aside from reducing glare from water and such (i think)is it worth using? in what situations would i use it? it mounts to the lens and then is able to spin (which i assume it's supposed to do)...why?
7/2/2010 4:39:27 PM
Making clouds look better.Killing reflections in windows.
7/2/2010 4:41:33 PM
^ okay...so i leave a UV filter on all of my lenses figuring it's a cheap way to protect the lens itself (whether it really does anything or not is arguable, i know)...is a CPL something i could leave on the lens or should i remove it unless i have a specific need? i have one lens that i use mostly outside and so i could leave it on that one...but i use it inside, too, sometimes[Edited on July 2, 2010 at 4:48 PM. 7/2/2010 4:44:07 PM
buy a cheap pair of polarized sunglasses and wear them around for an idea of how it could affect photos. but you're definitely going to want to take it off at times.
7/2/2010 9:37:54 PM
i actually have a decent pair of polarized sunglasses and i wear them all the time...the only time i realize they're polarized when i'm NOT out on the water (or similar) is when i look at certain types of LED screens that suddenly show crazy rainbows other than that, i DON'T really notice the difference...obviously the sunglasses darken everything, but i wouldn't think the polarizer would do that (i do realize that it will darken sky and such, though)

I took some pictures of the 4th of July fireworks that were set off in our street (got to fucking love South Carolina ).This is the first time I had ever tried taking pictures of Fireworks. I took a bunch of shots at the zoo, but this one stood out. I played around with it a little in gimp...
7/7/2010 11:01:39 AM
^^ off frame I guess, it was shot from the hip

i like it too.
7/8/2010 12:10:03 AM
I am making a mountain trip end of next week and our first stop is the zoo. I can't wait to do some animal shots there, and I really want to do some waterfall shots up there. Really excited about this trip for photography purposes. When I get some time I'll post some pics I shot of the Edenton fireworks over the bay.
7/8/2010 6:41:24 AM
Yeah I mainly liked the lighting in it. I kind of got lucky with the crop, but I've been finding I can get pretty decent shots in one or two tries without actually looking through the viewfinder now. Frees me up to get better angles for shots of kids.As an aside I picked up one of those table top studio kits that comes with a couple stand mounted lights. It's like a giant softbox with different colored back drops that you put inside to take stock and product photos. Figure it will be worth some fun and I'm going to try to build up a large stock photo portfolio to try to make a few extra dollars off of the microstock sites.
7/8/2010 6:48:13 AM
^^^^^^ personally (and i am far from an expert), i think it's a bit too saturated...also, it looks like you created a layer of the female in front in order to work on her and now she looks separate from the male in the background (like she's been superimposed)
7/8/2010 7:35:37 AM
^To me it just looks like he used to low of an F-Stop and it began blurring out the lion in the background, but it didn't blur it enough to get that artistic look. But I do agree, I think its too saturated. The grass up front looks fake. Just personal opinion though.
7/8/2010 7:41:29 AM
yeah, the only thing i did was open the picture in gimp and play with the saturation, so you are right....
7/8/2010 8:04:59 AM
If y'all would post the settings & lenses used for your shots that would be awesome. Just picked up a 50mm f/1.8 for my XSi, looking forward to a fast piece of glass over these slow kit lenses. Now gotta save up for my Tamron 28-75mm f/2.8
7/8/2010 8:21:03 PM
i think just about everyone posts pics with exif data so if you want to find out all of the settings you easily can if there is a particular picture that someone didn't you can probably ask that person]]
7/8/2010 10:44:30 PM
well i didn't see any on some of your safari pictures, nor Ronny's sweetwater one, nor the zoo one, so i'm just saying it would help as i know a lot of these pictures are edited or resized and lose the EXIF data
7/8/2010 10:56:44 PM
my bad - http://www.flickr.com/photos/30164326@N04/ will show the exif - for some reason the direct link to the picture on flickr doesn't show it - i never noticed thatfinally going through the first day of pictures from the trip - my wife got in the way just a bit and i didn't want to crop it
