^I mean, this obviously plays to Obama's credibility. I just wouldn't be surprised if his supporters claimed it as a success.

still, what does that have to do with (supposed) Russian warplanes bombing a hospital in Syria and the Saudi-let coalition bombing a hospital in Yemen?

How the hell will it not end up like iraq? No one has a long term plan for any of these quagmires. Get rid of assad and isis then what? peaceful democracy forever?

Occupations and forced countries can't function under democracy. There must be a dictator or permanent ruling party to achieve a stability in countries with artificial borders and or population.

Anyone with any understanding of the region knows it could easily be 4 or 5 countries.

The solution is totally obvious. Just do whatever they are doing in UAE and Saudi Arabia.

How about his recent anouncment to send troops to Syria, despite continually vowing that there would not be "Boots on the ground"?

^ that doesn't seem like a real thing... if they are grad students and getting paid in any way, they are employees, and the school can put them on a health plan.

grad students were on the student plan and you can't give money specifically for someone to buy health insurance on the individual market, so instead they are issuing additional stipends (although since they can't ask who needs them and have to issue them to everyone, the amount is less than the health insurance).

http://gradstudies.missouri.edu/about/news-events/news-features/2015/information-about-student-health-insurance/

are there laws against having part time employees on an employee plan?

Obama rules out U.S. troops on ground to fight Islamic State

http://www.reuters.com/article/2015/11/16/us-g20-turkey-obama-strategy-idUSKCN0T51QS20151116

I don't necessarily disagree with the decision, but i'd love to know in detail what information he's basing this on. What are the military strategists and others with deep knowledge of the intel saying would/should happen.

not really, no

I'm fine with someone who happens to be on a terrorist watch list not being able to purchase an arsenal of weapons

that doesn't mean that I don't want a level of transparency in how people get put on that list, though

^ what do you mean? The no fly list has been around since before 2001, but just ballooned after. We gave up this right a LONG time ago regarding the list, now we're reaping what was sown by the post 9/11 era.

The 2nd amendment is the only right that the GOP gives a shit about, extrajudicial lists and spying are perfectly okay as long as it doesn't have to do with buying guns

i think the point is that it just used to be liberals and libertarians against the no-fly list, but now that Obama proposed using it for guns the right suddenly hates it for being so unconstitutional and suddenly the left is okay with it.

maybe this explains it better:
Quote :
"It’s a familiar story of the post-September 11 era: Democrats and Republicans are engaged in a partisan fight over the “no-fly” list created after the attacks. One party insists that the nation must take common-sense measures to protect citizens and the homeland. The other party howls that it’s an outrageous violation of due-process rules and part of a slide into lawlessness. All that’s different now is that the dominant voices in the two parties have flipped 180 degrees."

How Obama's Gun-Control Push Inverted the Politics of the No-Fly List

[Edited on December 8, 2015 at 10:54 AM. Reason : i'm not okay with it, more oversight is still needed for the list ]

So are you against a no-fly list? Even if someone is on the FBI's radar as a terrorist sympathizer or is in direct connection with known terrorist organizations, they should be able to freely fly? Should the FBI even keep a list of "potential terrorists"? Or are you just against using that list to prevent the sale of guns? Weren't you the guy who was encouraging people to call the authorities if your neighbor looks middle-eastern and has middle-eastern-looking people hanging around their house?
