While I liked Herb and enjoyed annual trips to the NCAAs when I went to State, games were pretty much painful to watch. We lived and died by the three and it's pretty awesome to watch a team that actually puts up a lot of points in the paint and blocks shots instead of relying on throwing up a barrage of 3s and backdoor cuts all the time. I dont miss the days of scoring droughts at all.

The least talented NCSU team in 4 years beat the best Duke team in 4 years. I'd say that's a damn fine coaching job.

Everyone scored, most shots were part of the offense, we didn't get an abnormal amount of luck shots, scoring was all-around.

Thats 3 consecutive halves of excellent basketball, and 5 of the last 6 -- all against tough competition. We are definitely getting better, and this team is overachieving with the talent it has. All very good signs.

sidney always has great game plans for our big games esp duke and unc..

the things he needs to work on are:
beating teams in conference when you are even or better in talent
Motivating the team and putting the same passion into the UVAs and BCs as the UNCs and Dukes


Once he gets this down pat, and I am confident he will, we are gonna really get something going.

To me, Scott Wood is by far the biggest difference in this year's team. Last year, we had Fells playing the 3. Fells was a good shooter, good defender, but a mistake waiting to happen. I literally cringed everytime he touched the ball (unless it was a stand-still shot).

Wood brings his shooting and defense, but eliminates the boneheaded plays. He's just a guy you never have to worry about -- odd for a freshman. Give him Brown and Harrow creating shots for him, and, well ... boner.

He clearly has way more basketball instincts than fells. He does his job and does things a basketball player should do. No hesitation.

If you do your job, even if you aren't scoring, then that makes everything work for everyone else. Cut when you need to cut, use a screen correctly, make the right pass. It all brings the defense into a vulnerable position that you can exploit.

And he shoots. Shooting is the great equalizer in basketball. Less talented players become valuable if they can shoot. It's a very underrated skill, but it's the most important

This is no where close to the least talented State team in the last 4 years. This team has talent, they're just young. I would say the first two Sid teams were less talented.

This game was great and I am believing a little bit more. However, I hate to be a downer after a game like that, we or some of you can't use the talent excuse anymore. We just beat the best team in the ACC so we should be able to hang with anyone now and I think we will as long as we continue to run and move the ball. Putting Degand in the starting lineup has us playing well.

I still don't think the amount of raw talent on our team is anything special, but I think it's the combo of talent, experience, and heightened basketball instincts that's made us more competitive this year.

This makes us seem like a competent basketball teams most of the time this year. That's something I haven't said since the tailend of Sid's first year with Atsur making everything happen.

I also don't agree that this team is the least talented. The freshman class is much more impressive than I expected them to be.

Wood has been a great offensive spark, Howell has looked really good over the past few games, and I'd take Vandenburg over a blue chip walking turnover like Brian Zoubek even as a freshman.

A healthy Howell to start the season would have been worth 2-3 wins IMO. Also we aren't even discussing Lo Brown, who was initially a part of this class. Josh Davis was a help particularly early in the season as other guys hadn't yet come around to establish themselves in the rotation. In time, Painter will be a good player for us.

Mays is developing into a solid contributor as well. Our staff has shown a good eye for and ability to develop talent.
