^ Call ahead first - Ive been there a few times and having something in stock online doesnt necessarily mean theyll have it in stock in the store. Their store and warehouse are two different things to my knowledge (at least Ive run into that problem for guns they have listed on gunbroker that were 'in their warehouse').

you can order it online and just select in-store pickup and they should have it there

I noticed it the other day when I tried googling the S&W 586 Classic. All that turned up in the shopping section was airsoft guns.

i know we talked about this before, but i couldn't find the posts...remember that Glenfield 60 squirrel stock that i tore all apart and was gonna refinish? the stock, barrel, and mag tubes are still in the back of the safe and the rest is in a ziploc bag and i wanna get it back in action before squirrel season because i sold my only other semi-auto .22LR. the whole thing (except the stock) was sprayed down with a rattle can of black. i've got an air compressor now, so i figured i'd get a cheap airbrush kit and try my hand at that. i guess my plan is to sandblast as much as i can. i'll paint the receiver and trigger guard and i think the magazine tube gets painted. i'll cold blue the barrel. would sandblasting and then 0000 steel wool be the best way to prep the barrel for cold blue?my plan on the stock is to use citrus strip. i'll wipe it all down and scotch-brite/steel wool it and sand it down. i actually kinda like the banding that you get with birch, so i don't have to use a heavy stain to try to hide it. i'd also like to keep the stain fairly light so the squirrel and the grooves on the fore end stand out. i have very little experience with staining. suggestions/tips/tricks?

what are the differences in the gunkote, cerakote, duracoat, alumahyde and all this stuff? which do i want?[Edited on July 6, 2012 at 9:46 AM. Reason : and is it worth doing the airbrush thing or will rattle can paint hold up?]

it's good to see that the gun ban is working for chicago

what about putting a regulator and dessicant dryer on my compressor and buying the air brush kit? sound like a good idea? i would probably do more camo jobs and such if i had that setup. also, my wife wants pink AR furniture (whatever gets her shooting is fine by me) and i could do pink duracoat on plastic, right?
7/6/2012 12:07:36 PM
A water filter on an air compressor would be great. Let me know when you find the fitting to go from the compressor to air brush because I haven't found it. I haven't looked hard though and someone's bound to make one. I had a mistype in my last post where I said "no metallic" I meant "non metallic." Duracoat will work fine on plastic parts.[Edited on July 6, 2012 at 12:53 PM. Reason : Damn iPhone autocorrect ]
7/6/2012 12:52:15 PM
most compressors are just gonna be 1/4" or 3/8" NPT fittings. from what i see, it looks like most air brush hoses are 1/8" NPT. shouldn't be any problem to just get a reducer. might need a nipple too, but it's is very common hardware store stuff. correct me if i'm wrong. i know nothing about air brushes.
7/6/2012 1:16:17 PM
I haven't found 1/4 to 1/8 npt adaptors locally, but yes you'd think it would be easy to find.[Edited on July 6, 2012 at 4:40 PM. Reason : Sure beats $9 a can for compressed air]
7/6/2012 4:40:15 PM
if you need to turn 1/4" female to 1/8" female, you just need a reducing bushing:http://www.swagelok.com/search/find_products_home.aspx?part=B-4-RB-2&item=e254464f-20f7-457f-a9a9-c8602af7276eif you need to turn 1/4" female to 1/8" male, you need this reducing nipple:http://www.swagelok.com/search/find_products_home.aspx?part=B-4-HRN-2i think it'd be one of those

im thinking of duracoating a parkerized reminginton 870 shotgun. someone advised me to buy flattener to mix with the duracoat which will cut down on the plastic/shiny look. anyone tried this?

Just picked up a glock 19 gen 3 for my wife for personal defense. My sneaky squirrel friend told me the gen 4 blew and the gen 3 was more reliable. Has anyone else heard of this? Either way, got the gen3.
7/8/2012 5:40:06 PM
I have a gen 3 with thousands of rounds through it and I trust it more than any other gun I have used. Only negative I have heard about the gen 4 is it likes to throw brass back in your face but I haven't researched it enough to know if there are other issues.
7/8/2012 5:45:29 PM
Our department is issued the Gen 3 G22 but my team gets issued the Gen 4 G22; there hasn't been a reliability issue (except for replacing the connector) that we have experienced but I like the feel of the Gen 3 and continue to carry mine.
7/8/2012 5:48:05 PM
I'm a secret squirrel. We have the Gen 3 G19.

gonna go pick up my 1911 today
7/9/2012 1:21:35 PM
Nice.. Bud's shipped mine to the wrong address (???) and they're just now fixing their mistake and shipping to the right place Should be 2 days and I'll be picking mine up
7/9/2012 1:35:02 PM
That sucksThey got mine right. I was pretty happy with free 2-3 day air.
7/9/2012 1:39:36 PM
i have a gen 4 G17 and can confirm i get hit in the face about 3 times per mag.they usually land in the crook of my arm and burn me that way though.still love it...on another note, does anyone ever have any issues loading their shotguns tube mag? i always heard benellis was notoriously bad for biting your thumb, but i did have to adjust my usual style to accommodate their lifter design.not quite the big deal certain forums make it out to be, but im no 3-gun competitor either. some folks act like its a benelli dealbreaker or they start welding the damn things. seems crazy to me on a $1k shotgun.
7/9/2012 1:57:39 PM
the grips that came on my 1911 are smooth. i'd like something with at least some checkering. there are about a million options. can someone suggest some simple checkered wood grips w/o any logos? also, do i need a special cut since i've got an ambidextrous safety?
7/10/2012 6:45:13 AM
^ I've always been a fan of vzgrips. You DO need to make sure you get grips with the safety trimmed out on the right panel. Standard grips won't work but pretty much all options are available for ambi.
7/10/2012 8:00:13 AM
i ain't paying $65 for the damn things

7/10/2012 10:25:25 AM
you mean just duracoat the barrel too?
7/10/2012 10:32:23 AM
Yeah. If you're goIng to do any spray on finish just do the whole thing to match (in the case of a spray on finish sandblasting is good).[Edited on July 10, 2012 at 11:05 AM. Reason : ]
7/10/2012 11:04:00 AM
ok, i'll do that.
7/10/2012 11:07:29 AM
Just bought a competition Daisy Avanti 499 Champion BB gun for my son. I can't wait to get this thing. He shot one during the week at scout summer camp and had really tight groupings from several different shooting positions. I was impressed as it was his first time ever shooting a BB gun. They shot Avanti's and the one I ordered came with the 5899 adjustable rear sight, so it should be pretty easy to adjust for proper shooting. I would love to get him into competition shooting.
7/10/2012 11:33:15 AM
i used some flat black high temp engine paint on a shotgun mag tube that had the parkerizing all scratched up from the barrel clamp/sling swivel.baked it in the oven at 275 for 30 minutes then 300 for another 30 minutes then let it cool down in there all night.looks great, seems durable, and is easily fixable next time it gets screwed up. only prep work was scrubbing it real good and wiping it down with 93 percent isopropyl alcohol./redneck gunsmithing
7/10/2012 5:50:31 PM
Finally caved and bought a ppk/s, we'll see how she does over the weekend
7/11/2012 7:46:20 PM
^^ive realized after doing refinishing projects that if you're going to spend the time to refinish something then you might as well spend the extra money to do it right. High temp paints are reasonably durable, but for $30-40 more you can have a nicer looking gunkote finish. Those supplies are usually enough to do a couple guns so the cost per project can drop a lot more. The krylon digital camo I did on my shotgun (see gallery) came out great but the gummy wear residue that showed up after use on the mag tube was ugly and annoying. I could had a nicer finish and doubled the value of the gun with $30 worth of gunkote or Duracoat.

http://www.wral.com/news/state/page/11228410/Hey CCW holders, find your name!
7/12/2012 4:50:54 PM
Wtf? I didn't see names but that is still bullshit
7/12/2012 4:53:46 PM
Makes you feel like you're on that sex offender registry. I don't show up on this but two other people on my street got permits fairly recently.
7/12/2012 5:02:44 PM
what about the street numbers and licensee names? is that information public record?
7/12/2012 6:44:26 PM
Hey, there are 3 permit holders on my street, including myself. I think my neighbor is one. Kinda curious who the third is But I do NOT like that this information is public. Too much personal info on the web yo.

The database still contains my Raleigh address as a location, though I changed it two years ago.
7/12/2012 8:06:25 PM
never could decide which scope i wanted to buy for my AR, so i robbed the 3-9x40 nikon prostaff off the .270 if i get to deer hunt at all this year, i doubt it'll be with a rifle, so might as well get some use out of the prostaff.also, had my orientation today at a range down here. gonna miss having my own private range, but this one is real laid back.[Edited on July 13, 2012 at 6:22 PM. Glass is sometimes difficult to buy. I've been avoiding the urge to cross into the final frontier of F-Class matches just because of the cost and variety of setups.
7/13/2012 7:42:56 PM
I'll be driving by Lexington on Sunday, the one day Bud's Guns is closed. Go Figure...
7/13/2012 8:13:23 PM
i guess i just get hung up because there are so many options. i was leaning towards just a plain old 3-9x40, so i figured putting the Nikon on there was a free way to see if that's what i really want. if i like it, maybe i'll just leave it on there and put something different on the .270.i'm also wanting some more magnification on my .22-250. something like 6.5-20. it's got a really sweet VX-III 4.5-14x50 with side focus and 30mm tube on it now. i'd hate to part with it and i'd never get decent money for it, but idk what i'd do with it if i take it off the .22-250. too much for the AR i think.what do y'all think?
7/13/2012 8:29:01 PM
I finished my ar-15 build. I still need a sling and weapon light. I love it, i put 240 rounds on it between yesterday and today.
7/13/2012 8:49:49 PM
is the whole thing from palmetto state or just the lower?
7/13/2012 8:54:19 PM
^^ I really like the magpul ms3 sling. Can be a one or two point sling and switching is really easy. Don't really have much experience with others so it is hard to compare but it works really well for me.
