jesusthats one of those hands where afterwards if you're the other guyyou just get uprealize the room is spinning and your ears are bleedingand punch yourself in the nuts for doing something absurd
3/7/2007 8:39:02 PM
I felt that way when he 5-bet me. I make these kind of moves maybe once a week, only when I think a guy is way out of line with his 3-betting from the blinds and he'll actually fold to my bluff 4-bet. I was hating life when he min raised and I was getting 4:1 pre with my shittastic J10o.I would have had to fold to a push on the flop if anyone is wondering, and I would have had to call on the turn.. neither of which I would have been thrilled about

Hish called me last night.apparently with some story of flopping quads on dude and having the guy open push all in on the flop.i didnt really catch it, i was at a bar getting food before the ncsu/duke game.prly meet up with them tonight.. convince them to leave the trashyness of the trop and come to the borgwhere the waitresses have a pinup calendar, instead of a resident gimp and memories of when they used to be attractive in the late 80s.

ok...this hand killed me last night and i dont know if the guy made the right call or not and i want to hear some thoughts. i played in a $200+20 tourney yesterday with 35 entrants. we get down to 2 tables and i have 12.5k in chips with the blinds at 400/800. i am in the BB with Q9 and check my option.the flop comes Qh, 4h, 5c....we check and checks around to the button who moves all in for 4.3k...SB folds...i immediately move all in for my remaining 11.7k...guy next to me starts thinking, so i know he is on a flush draw...he has 24k in chips....does he have the right odds to call here?
3/12/2007 6:38:49 AM
Did he have an over?

i did three of the dumbest things in my life this weekend.

OK interesting hand kind of last night. I am in Kentucky right now visiting my brother, so it's much like the college games we used to play (and you all probably still do). A few good players and a few really bad players and me, the Poker Jesus.Me: ($110 in chips) I have been playing unusually tight all night, especially for this group. It had been like 8 hours, and I know I had a reputation as a super tight player, which had been paying off over the past couple hours because my bets carried a lot of respect, plus people thought I would fold to anything and I ended up making some good calls to big river bluffs.Player A: ($30 in chips) He was the worst player at the table hands down. He was really erratic, throwing down like $10 preflop at a pot of $.75 and then flipping over QJ offsuit when everyone folded and thinking he made a great bluff. You've seen the type on Party Poker before, and if you're anything like me you just want to burn him.Guy B: ($25 in chips) Probably the best player in the hand (of course not evaluating myself). Hadn't seen him win many hands, but just sitting there listening to him and his comments I could tell he was fairly solid.Guy C: ($100 in chips) Average + player who thought he was a lot better than he was and talked the whole time. Really no other read on him, but I knew he was capable of anything from watching him play in the tournament earlier in the night.9-handed, $.25/$.50 and I look down at JJ in first position and just smooth call. The 2 best players at the table to my left fold, and Guy A bumps it up to $2. Guy B and C call, and it comes around to me. I bump it up to $12. Guy A thinks about it and calls, Guy B thinks about it and pushes all-in for like $25, and Guy C just hesitantly calls. At this point, I am thinking to myself that I definitely currently have the best hand, but of course I am anything but an overwhelming favorite. So now it's to me. I pretty much know Guy A will call anything, but I am mystified by what Guy C has, who is the only one who could really put a serious dent in my stack. So I get aggressive and reraise again to $70. Player A, as expected calls. I figure Player C will either fold or push, but again just a call.So roughly $195 in the main pot(s) and I have $40ish, he has $30ish left. The flop comes Ks Qs 10c. My hand was Js Jc btw. Not exactly what I wanted to see. I check in first position, just to see what Guy C would do. He immediately pushes. I do about 30 seconds of math in my head, and although I even flat out say "I am fairly certain I am beat but I have to call because I really feel like I have at least 4 outs, and probably 6" (not counting runner-runner flush.) I call and he flips over like 10 8 offsuit (a big bluff). He's livid that I called because apparently he overheard me talking to my little brother telling him I had JJ and he thought he could get me off the hand. We ran it out and the next two cards were blanks, and my hand actually held up in all the pots (Guy A had A10 offsuit and Guy B had like 67 of clubs.)My question here is, is there any way you fold to his river bet, even if you think you are beat? I honestly figured he had a K or a Q, but with $195 in the main pot, I was getting really good odds to call $35 even though I thought I was way behind. It might not have been a bad play if we both had more in front of us, because honestly I would have folded to any bet over $75ish. I dunno, any thoughts here?
3/12/2007 12:20:36 PM
I assume by river you meant flop?If you planned to call even if you thought you were beat, why not just push all in preflop?
3/12/2007 12:30:10 PM
yeah I kinda like a preflop push better, but apparently you enticed the guy to make the most retarded bluff ever so it's all good.of course it's a call with JJ on that flop, he would have needed quite a bit more in front of you both for it to be a fold
3/12/2007 12:53:30 PM
that sounds like the worst game of poker i have ever heard of.^but yea, it's a call with those pot odds.[Edited on March 12, 2007 at 1:06 PM. Reason : dsf]

3/12/2007 1:30:36 PM
I actually mistyped the flop.....It was Ks Qs 9c..... so it was not open ended.... hence me saying 4 (any 10) or maybe 6 (the 2 remaining J's) outs in the deck.

^^here's my 2cents, although i'm not sure if people will agree with me or not. First of all (which everyone probably will agree with) is that if you are going to reraise to 70 preflop there is no point to leave 40 behind you, i mean if your bet is called anyone in the hand is going to be getting huge odds to stick in the hand to the end, so you might as well just put it all in preflop. then you won't have any tough decisions. I mean I guess I can understand raising to 70 if you are trying to make it seem more like aces and you want a call, but let's be honest, i don't think the table you were playing at is really going to make those kinds of subtle distinctions, they seemed pretty weak from what you've said. but, considering that we've found ourselves in this situation, you are getting over 5.5 to 1 on your money. I actually wouldn't count the jacks as outs, eventhough they might be, since spiking one would put 4 to a straight, and i just prefer to be a little conservative in ev calc to keep variance low and make sure i'm getting enough edge to play. so you are pretty much getting exactly the price you need to call chasing the ten. However, you have to consider the fact that aj might be out there, this possibility obviously doesn't detract much value from your hand since it's very unlikely, but it does decrease it some.but here's the real thing in my mind. guy c's preflop play smells like two suited middle cards or a small to low pair. the table seems really weak (or drunk) so he could be making those cold calls with a hand like k-j (likely he'd slowplay the two pair since i'm assuming he's weak, which may or may not be true), but to me there is at least a 25% chance that he has a small pair or maybe a gutshot himself with a hand like j-8 or 10-8. this probability increases your chances to a call imo. although i certainly wouldn't be happy about it. much better to avoid this spot and just push preflop.edit: I actually did the pot odds calc assuming the rest of your stack, 40, but actually since he only had 35 it is even more of a call since you're getting over 6:1 now.[Edited on March 13, 2007 at 9:55 AM. I think that's a good assessment. To be honest, I reraised $70 expecting either a fold, or an all-in from Guy C. The call baffled me, and I suppose I didn't even consider that he might call to simply try and hit and/or set up a bluff for our sidepot (stupid play btw....) I don't actually know many flops that I could have/would have seen that would have made me fold after all that cash is in the pot.
3/13/2007 3:02:42 PM
I hate it when they should go all in or fold, but they decide to call instead. This happens frequently when I make a bet that is a large % of someone's stack without realizing it.
3/13/2007 3:05:32 PM
i think the moral of the story here revolves aroudn the limp reraise
3/13/2007 3:05:42 PM
So you don't like the limp reraise?
3/13/2007 5:17:00 PM
yeah.. it gets too many people involved in the pot, and then you don't really know where you're at
3/13/2007 5:20:15 PM
Man not me. If I do the standard $2.50 raise, I get 5 callers and then I have to fold after the flop. If I see someone limp-reraise, I know they are sitting on a big hand and IMO, most hands are gonna bail out, at least if the people you are playing with are experienced.

For all you broke poker players out there, Wingows.com is offering $5 free for just signing up, no deposit required. They also have a rakeback program for you people who play alot. Kind of a small site, but it doesn't seem too bad. If you want, you can put me as your referral, my name is "Hell_Mouth" If you don't want to, not a big deal. You get the $5 either way.
3/13/2007 6:18:59 PM

3/13/2007 6:29:28 PM
Yeah, I don't even know what you get for referring people on there or what requirements they have to meet either for you to get a bonus. I looked all over and couldn't find it, I'm just more interested in their rake back that is paid out daily.
3/13/2007 6:33:37 PM
Pilgrim I am kind of curious to hear your theory on the limp-reraise. I personally love the play.

Anyone watch High Stakes Poker last night? Why in the hell did they put Ferguson on there. Other than Ivey, he is prolly THE most boring player to watch play.
