He makes a lot of valid points in that article. I also think it is ridiculous to criticize him for that claim, which he clarifies and then supports based on lots of information and then defend all the weird, antagonistic, and divisive shit Trump says. Not saying that anyone here is doing that but the right wing media certainly is.

Yea i'm coming from the left. That interview is jist particularly bad for Covid since the right argument is we are working too hard to protect the elderly and disabled at the expense of the children. I could see the Tex lt Gov giving the same interview. Also the general idea that retirees aren't living a meaningful life is kinda sad. I'm sure those people's families find their life very meaningful and the people themselves love their lives of leisure.

If Biden has such a good COVID response plan, why doesn't he unveil it now and start getting it implemented? Theres nothing that says you have to be in government to release a plan or even get on the phone with all 50 governors and try to convince them to implement it. If our COVID struggles really were as simple as lack of central leadership, Biden would be complicit for wasting these critical months before starting that COVID leadership.[Edited on November 15, 2020 at 12:59 PM. He is not yet imbued with the power and authority of the Presidency. Additionally, half of the country is denying that he is the President-Elect.
11/15/2020 1:13:36 PM
Hey guys! Let's use strawmen to place blame for the current President's failings on to the future President (who we haven't yet acknowledged as the future President). Wouldn't that be great?
11/15/2020 1:56:05 PM
The president doesn't have authority over the states when it comes to enforcing policies that haven't been passed into law so what authority is Biden waiting to gain in regards to preventing COVID deaths. Its not really a strawman because Joe Biden has said over and over again that the deaths were because of Trump and future deaths would be because of Trump. He's continuously said that he has a plan to get everyone to wear masks so why wait? Why let 200,000 more people die just because you aren't the president yet? What specific power is he waiting for?[Edited on November 15, 2020 at 3:18 PM. Reason : presidential power to force people to wear masks doesn't exist and he knew people didn't know that]

11/17/2020 1:20:31 PM
I can't even bring myself to criticize Biden for doing exactly what everyone should have known he would do. He literally said something about this during one of the primary debates. The lie that he would be pushed to the left after the election never should have been believed. He is who he is and these appointments are spot on character. Climate denial with more steps.
11/17/2020 1:34:09 PM
I just spit out my drink in shock at that statement, wow. The absolute worst person on this message board expects the worst out of something and tells people not to hope. Shocking! You're like the "better things arent possible" centrist tweet but from some weird far left/far right/nihilist combo zone
11/17/2020 1:46:55 PM
Me identifying Biden as a centrist is not me being a centrist. You guys have to stop attributing my explanations of the beliefs of politicians to my own beliefs. Better things are possible but we get swindled into electing assholes. The only way things can get better is if we make them better. You can't keep electing the people who created the problems and expect them to suddenly wake up one day and solve the problems they got rich off creating. At some point, you can't even blame them. They revealed who they were and people voted for them. Activists campaigned for them. They let fear of Trump force them to sacrifice everything else. And we are actually getting to the point where there will literally be no hope. I've been working to convince people to demand change for 10 years but the window is closing.
11/17/2020 1:54:11 PM
I didn't say you were a centrist learn to read please

Ok well can you explain what you are saying without loaded political terms and reference to a tweet i don't know about? Also, expecting the fossil fuel industry to do very little to address climate change is not "expecting the worse". Its realism. You can't work with them on this. They have to be forced.[Edited on November 17, 2020 at 4:37 PM. Reason : we have different definitions of political terms so I literally cannot understand what you mean]

Political spectrum is not the only thing that determines saving.Right now I'd take 19th century robber barron Mitt Romney to save me from Trump.

The political compass is a scam anyway to make everyone think they're a libertarian.

Think of the compass as where your answers to the questions that happened to be on the survey are instead of where you are entirely. Of course, its not going to be completely accurate and a different set of questions could change the results. The thing is, the questions are usually designed based on policies that are big ticket election issues or policies the executive branch has a major impact on driving so it works pretty well for presidential candidates and less for "people". With that said, from what I've seen, most westerners do hold values that are vaguely libertarian. I ain't never seen two authoritarian best friends. The funny part is that US constitution is a libertarian document and the libertarian party is most closely aligned with the founding fathers. The problem is, people can shit on that party but can't be honest about their disdain for the founding fathers who, imo, were racist pieces of shit anyway. People also are completely blind to the existence of the 3rd quadrant and conclude anyone from the quadrant must be a troll.[Edited on November 18, 2020 at 3:46 PM. Reason : k]

I prefer headlines about Trump's failing lawsuits to any sort of 'Biden and Trump Battle to Determine Election Outcome' both sides bullshit that would be the alternative. There's no need to validate Trump's bitch-fit-cum-fundraising-grift by spending time on it.[Edited on November 20, 2020 at 8:16 PM. Reason : ]

11/20/2020 8:21:58 PM
Biden is using it for fundraising too. And who cares about headlines? It's about protecting democracy. If you don't hold these people accountable theyll just keep getting more brazen. Nixon leads to W leads to Trump leads to......Biden himself doesn't even have to lift a finger just tell the house to do their fucking jobs
11/20/2020 11:48:45 PM
I agree: people need to be held to account, the Legislative Branch needs to (re)assert itself, and what may follow Trump is worrisome.I disagree that headlines don't matter. Current headlines are that Trump is failing to make his case for fraud. There's no Dem-vs-Rep, trial-of-the-century narrative about Trump and Biden battling it out in court. Trump excels at using spectacle to distract from substance (videri quam esse 4 lyfe mofos!). Not engaging his fraud claims denies him the spectacle and exposes the lack of substance. It appears to be working. With respect to the GSA, I'm not sure what aggressive action will accomplish. My understanding is that the failure to certify Biden as President Elect is a violation of norms but not a legal violation. If/when the GSA does certify Biden, there's still no reason to expect the rest of the administration to be cooperative with a transition. At the moment they're behaving like evicted tenants in a shitty apartment.I do think the transition should be thoroughly documented and published with expected transition processes codified.
11/21/2020 2:59:32 PM
GSA has determined that Biden is president-elect.
