Last year I watched one of my schools fail miserably with the #1 overall pick in the NBA draft.

Can you imagine the complex I have now with DSJ being projected as #1 overall. Im gonna have a meltdown if the same shit happens again

I doubt that he will stay as the number one pick throughout the whole season. I will be happy if he finishes as a top 5 projected pick.

NC State is still waiting word form NCAA on Omer Yurtseven's eligibility. Yurtseven/Smith would be one of best guard/post tandems in college

Obviously #sources, but I read some UK posters discussing Yurtseven after one of their connected people said he would be ruled eligible in the coming days. They were whining because Kanter had the exact same situation and didn't make it through the clearing house.

[Edited on October 18, 2016 at 3:21 PM. Reason : also top 35 team sounds like a backhanded compliment]

i certainly hope that info is accurate. i only question it because the NCAA isn't gonna leak any information about a decision. they just don't really do that. so any #sources would be coming from the NC State side - and maybe our coaches and compliance office are optimistic and have done all their research, but that's not really anything new or breaking until there's actually an announcement, right? maybe i'm just being too skeptical.

also, with yurt7 i think we are better than "top 35". think we could be top 20 or better.

I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility that UK higher ups have their finger on CBB's pulse. They've got plenty of friends in the NCAA office.

i'm more worried about kapita.

yurtseven/his family protected his interests as best they could in regards to his college eligibility. kapita on the other hand, has not.

I'd be happy to just get Yurt, but Kapita is definitely icing on the cake if he's eligible too.

I think all along it was a given that Yurtseven would be cleared before Kapita, the whole Kapita situation is just a bit odd and no telling how it will go.

I just don't see how the guy says we're "top 35" with everyone cleared. I'm all for people ranking us preseason lower because we haven't gotten word on a couple of our key players, but if we're assuming everyone is cleared, just from a talent standpoint you'd be hard pressed to find 25 teams with more talent.

Not saying we should be ranked if everyone is cleared because freshmen can take a while to acclimate, but talent-wise(which is what preseason rankings SHOULD be based on), we're easily top 25.

This^ What was LSU preseason rank last year with just one player.

WE are easily better than that team with the current roster IMO

It wasnt just 1 player. Antonio Blankeney was a projected late first rounder that came in as a freshman (so dennis: ben simmons :: yurt7 : blakeney) and tim quarterman was a projected late second rounder.

But blakeney was pretty terrible all year, quarterman was just ok, the best 3pt shooter and senior leader got hurt, and they had no post presence inside (plus johnny jones is an awful, awful coach). So they sucked and only Simmons got drafted.

This team has way more depth and balance at all positions than that team though assuming they get cleared, so it should definitely be ranked if LSU was, so I do agree with your overall point.

HOWEVA, I will say this. I think it was CBS or someone who had a ranking of all like 200 teams in the preseason and they had LSU like 40th. So need to keep an eye out on those, probably not out yet.

eta:
http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/cbs-sports-2015-16-ranking-of-every-college-basketball-team-from-1-351/

Found it!. LSU 38th, NC State 32nd lolololol

So give them some credit for not buying into the hype, but not too much credit.

they arent basing it on talent. they are basing it on expected performance. last time we had top 5 talent and the pollsters remember how that turned out. even last year was an underperformance

Prolly cuz we went to the sweet 16 and Abu looked like a potential 2016 first round pick at the end of the season.

Abu only looked like a 1st round pick to State fans

Hell, any big man that can dunk more than he dribbles it off his feet out of bounds is a hall of famer to Pack fans

Our second leading scorer was a white freshman, but only a couple dozen teams had more talent...

So interestingly enough, the same CBS ranking of all teams came out yesterday after I posted last years

http://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/duke-kentucky-kansas-top-cbs-sports-1-351-college-basketball-rankings/

And we are ranked #32 again.

So thats wild.

Quote :
"Dennis Smith Jr. is my pick for top point guard in the country by season's end. Morris will do more at Iowa State, but Smith is the better point guard overall. He's surrounded with a lot of interesting players this season. I think NC State is way undervalued right now. Abdul-Malik Abu is a top-100 player, Omer Yurtseven should get eligible, and when he does,he'll be one of the 10 best freshmen in the ACC. Buy on the Wolfpack."
