The rivian is like $20-30k more though and won't have the driver assist features tesla has...
11/22/2019 12:59:29 PM
it looks like a truck though and is way more functional
11/22/2019 1:52:08 PM
i just had a thought, is the shape maybe like this because their fancy new metal is more difficult to stamp?
11/22/2019 2:18:21 PM
It actually is folded, more origami like, rather than stamped.https://www.motortrend.com/news/tesla-cybertruck-electric-pickup-engineering-manufacturing/

Teslas “truck”:
11/22/2019 5:50:47 PM
^^^I assumed it was to keep costs down. Probably a lot easier to make a few press breaks with off the shelf equipment vs having to keep making custom molded body panel molds.
11/22/2019 8:20:02 PM
its a shame you cant get the larger battery pack without adding more motors
11/23/2019 11:01:58 PM
the cyber truck made me want to hurl at first...but now it's sort of growing on me. not because i don't still think it's ugly. it is fucking ugly.. I just think that it would be super functional.if it turns out to be hell-and-back tough, efficient, and reliable, I can possibly see getting one. even more so if the full-self-driving gets worked out.
11/24/2019 12:16:39 AM

Full self driving is still a decade away. Not sure why anyone with any sense can fool themselves into thinking otherwise.
11/25/2019 9:27:28 AM
11/25/2019 12:10:00 PM
I can even see level 5 being a decade away...but I think we’ll be at level 4 considerably before that.
11/25/2019 12:15:35 PM
3 maybe, 4 definitely not.
11/25/2019 3:09:57 PM
the tech isn't the hold up.. the legal battle is. we've got a fleet of cars that drive hundreds of unassisted miles in san fran traffic every day without issue. the problem is, what happens when the car sees a corner case it's never seen and chooses wrong and someone gets hurt? that's the liability precedent that's holding things back[Edited on November 25, 2019 at 5:12 PM. I'm assuming by your response you don't know what a corner case is.https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corner_casesnow, wild life, pedestrians, etc are all part of training. without going into a ton of secret sauce, if you can dream the scenario, I can and probably am training it, faster than you think.[Edited on November 26, 2019 at 10:58 PM. I think the truck looks pretty cool. Its like that truck my buddies and I would draw in elementary school, but cooler.

The 2nd and 3rd renderings here (flat top SUVs) look waaaaay better. The pointy roof of the original is what makes it look ridiculous--like a cockroach or something.https://www.motor1.com/news/384831/tesla-cybertruck-wagon-coupe-renderings

12/1/2019 1:16:52 AM
this is going to be very successful
12/1/2019 8:23:31 AM
I wanna know why they have all the walls around the bed. how the hell am i supposed to get stuff out from the side or the front without physically getting inside the bed?
12/1/2019 9:29:40 AM
I think that due to it being a [semi?] monocoque structure, that is needed for structural integrity
12/1/2019 6:41:09 PM
Honda made it work
12/1/2019 10:50:45 PM
Honda has a more traditional unibody, and they're also dealing with what, 1/3 of the power and 1/3 of the towing capacity?Honda made it work as essentially a tall AWD car with a little bed, but not in the context of a real-deal full-size pickup.
12/1/2019 11:46:48 PM
I think there will be some modifications before final release.but im not sure if the side sections are removable due to the xy body construction. Also seems like they have made use of the space inside the section for storage.
12/2/2019 7:48:44 AM
i think the high bed side panels are a result of not being able to do complex stamping with the material and having to stick with simple bends

Serious question: why don't they put turn signals on Teslas?
12/24/2019 4:43:49 PM
what are you talking about ..they do
12/24/2019 9:26:07 PM
anyone seen smc lately?Quote :"none of these cars will be drivable by 2020"I'll double down on that one. Maybe a few still running in the hands of collectors or museums.
12/24/2019 9:28:46 PM
^^lol I drove to Raleigh that day or the day before and almost was in two accidents with two different Teslas whose drivers decided to switch lanes on a crowded interstate without both using turn signals and looking to see if the lane was clear. I just assumed they didn't put turn signals on the car. I guess they have just attracted some of the shitty driver market away from BMW.
1/5/2020 10:08:06 AM
thats strange.. you actually must use your turn signal to change lanes or the car will highlight the lane lines in blue on screen and physically nudge your car back into your lane..you have to force the car into the other lane essentially when not using the signal. Unless they disabled the lane keep assist features. If I try to change lanes without my signal its not smooth due to the resistance the wheel has from the lane keeping .
1/5/2020 10:20:51 AM
1/5/2020 11:42:28 AM
what are the odds your rental also requires these features enabled for a major selling point of the car (self driving) to function ?
1/5/2020 1:39:33 PM
if we're just gonna ask meaningless questions now, what are the odds that every tesla owner uses all of the features their car came with?
1/5/2020 3:13:48 PM
If possible I disable any of that driver assist crap when I have a rental car.
1/6/2020 9:40:12 AM
^^ probably about the same as someone being aware of the mechanisms to disable all the features, specifically in a car they haven't driven before
1/6/2020 10:05:36 AM
that's probably a much larger number
