I don't see how that helps anything. Williams and Johnson would be idiots to sign that knowing that when the new CBA comes in they are going to be UFA's. They'll just wait out the process and then hit the open market then.

No, I definitely mean "when"There is no pressure to sign anything if you are DeA or CJ. Even if it takes up half the season, the new CBA will come in and they'll command a lot more money than RFA tender on the open market. No way does anyone advising both of those players tell them to get within 50 feet of that contract.

You always opt to keep the younger, cheaper back when choices have to be made at that position.
2/26/2011 12:59:04 PM
by that logic, wouldnt Stewart be more appealing for another team to trade for than Williams? I just think Deangelo is a top 5 NFL running back when healthy, not just some plug and play guy
2/26/2011 1:06:42 PM
You would never get value for Stewart with the way that backs come and go nowadays. A 4-6 rounder would be our best offer. He means much more to the Panthers currently than that.We need to go ahead and come to grips with the fact that DeAngelo won't be suiting up for the Panthers anymore. He's two years from the "30 wall" for running backs, they fired his position coach, someone is going to overpay for him, and he'd just be dumb to sit around Charlotte floundering since we have no shot at the playoffs for at least the next 2 years due to our division when there are much better opportunities out there.[Edited on February 26, 2011 at 1:19 PM. shit just draft peterson, it might draw some chuckles at first but when you think about all the big time picks wasted on qbs and rbs (but that's not a problem here) then it makes some sense, drafting players that have only had one good yr beforehand just seems really risky esp bowers because it was effort mostly, there is still the alabama guy but I doubt he'd be number one in any other draft, I mean if peterson is the most can't miss player just go for him regardless of the position
2/28/2011 10:22:56 PM
since we're lacking depth at the DT, this might be a good time to switch to the 3-4 defense. That way, we can start Connor and Beason as ILBs. All we have to do is draft/sign a NT, and put the current DTs as DEs in 3-4. We have a couple of potential good OLB pass-rushers in Norwood and Hardy also.
2/28/2011 11:14:08 PM
Speaking of NT, we could always bring Kris Jenkins home now.
2/28/2011 11:16:13 PM
I wouldn't mind having him back. Beside the weight issue, he was one of the players that actually gave a damn when we were losing.
2/28/2011 11:55:17 PM
I either want us to:- Draft Fairley- Trade down and get Mallett or Gabbert or Newton, and a 2nd round pick- Trade down and spend some money on Nnamdi Asomugha
2/28/2011 11:57:59 PM
the words on the street now is that Fairley won't be even the first DT to be drafted.
3/1/2011 12:01:42 AM
I'm glad to hear Dareus getting some love after the combine.I'd much rather have him than Fairley if we go interior lineman. Dude is an absolute animal.
3/1/2011 5:31:40 AM
Tommie Harris anyone?
3/1/2011 9:19:50 AM
3/1/2011 1:58:43 PM
Yeah I wouldnt draft mallet. I wouldnt have drafted Clausen either though. They both played like trash in college.
3/1/2011 2:04:24 PM
3/1/2011 2:24:57 PM
Nobody even wants to trade into the #1 pick. #1's demand $60 mil plus. More if they are a QB. Nobody in this draft is worth that kinda money.Panthers are in a bad spot. I bet they panic and take Newton or Glabbert #1.
3/1/2011 9:53:25 PM
i think both the players and owners want a lower rookie payscale so i doubt the $60 million figure will be a factor
3/1/2011 9:54:52 PM
best case scenario is 2 or 3 teams early in the draft fall in love with newton and start a bidding war for the first pick to get him.if all goes well, we can gain a few of the picks back that that hurney gave up in the past few years
3/2/2011 9:26:39 AM
^that really is the best case scenario for carolinathat said, what makes you think hurney would use those extra picks effectively? if i'm a panthers fan, i'm hoping rivera has a lot of say in their picks, b/c at least he doesn't have a proven track record of fucking up picks
3/2/2011 10:16:59 AM
3/2/2011 12:58:36 PM
damn, packers cut AJ Hawk and his $10MM salary any way panthers could afford his ass when signings can start to happen?
3/2/2011 8:45:09 PM
it doesn't really make any sense for the panthers to sign hawk.
3/2/2011 8:58:44 PM
Packers supposedly want to resign him.
3/3/2011 12:37:33 AM
Shockey signs with Panthers.per himself:

3/3/2011 2:31:31 PM
Can't be true, we only sign blocking tight ends
3/3/2011 2:43:32 PM
