Easily one of the worst performances I've ever seen from a basketball team. We looked like scrub womens team trying to play the UConn womens team and the score reflected it. Wisconsin was on fire, but it made no difference. They could have shot 33% from 3 pt range and still won by 20+. We sucked more ass than a Dyson. Lowe should have tried something, anything different on defense once the 2nd half started. Go to a full court press. Get the guys some experience trying to play aggresive on defense for once. I cannot even comment on our offense. I've seen YMCA teams run a better offense than whatever the fuck we were doing last night. We'll be lucky to score 40 pts against Syracuse's zone. Also my prediction from page 1 was spot on for NC State's offense. I guess I figured we'd have some balls and play defense too:Wisconsin: 64NC State: 48

Why do we never run those junk defenses Sid ran his first year anymore? I mean, nobody ever uses them, but they always seemed pretty good for disrupting the other guys' offense for a little while per game.

ya'll talkin bout me?

Those "junk defenses" (a Valvano specialty btw) are primarily designed to limit one or two players not an entire team comprised of white three point shooters. Also when you are dealing with a young team you want them to learn how to play straight up man defense well before you introduce the exotic zone defenses. Here are my thoughts and I will probably get flamed for them. We were holding our own pretty well for the early part of the game it was about halfway through the first half when the wheels fell off. At that point in time both Painter and Vandenburg had already been called for two fouls each. All of our Centers were in foul trouble the ENTIRE GAME. We were playing good defense but the OFFICIALS FORCED US TO BACK OFF BY CALLING RIDICULOUS TOUCH FOULS ON US. The team panicked and the rout began. The officials COMPLETELY changed the complexion of this game and forced a panic state upon a very young team.

I watched about 5 minutes of this and flipped over to the VT-Purdue game, which was actually a great game. Someone bullet point the top three reasons why we look like garbage.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 9:07 AM. Reason : hey, remember when people brought up bo ryan as coach in 06 and everyone said he was another herb?]

They couldn't miss a shot (even when we did have someone defending them) - because of this, there were very few fast break opportunities for our guards ... and were forced into playing a half-court offense without a legitimate big man.We couldn't make a shot (even open looks and layups)Our guys are just not being coached the way they need to, and it shows in that they are all lost out there, both on offense and defense. We have NO legitimate 4 OR 5 other than Tracy Smith.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 9:16 AM. It may have already been discussed (Im not going through 16 pages to look for it), but is there any way this works out as a positive?
12/2/2010 9:31:07 AM
if we can learn from it, maybe
12/2/2010 9:31:59 AM
They started running some plays specifically to get Scott Wood free which was good to see.

Yeah those 10 minute scoring droughts will get you every time. That was some disgusting play out there. We would of played a lot better if Tracy was out there, but that's no excuse for what I saw last night. The shot selection was miserable....for the entire game. Not many organized half court plays that I could tell. Too many 'run it down the court and throw up some ugly shot,' without drawing the ball back out to run the offense...or even a single pass. We've been replying on our transition offense heavily this year, but they had a pretty stout transition defense...so we need to get a viable plan B going for when we run into teams like this. Granted it's hard to run a half court offense Tracy or a decent substitute, but at least try.Javi played like trash. He should have been benched for effect early on in the first half. CJ continues to disappoint. He looks out of control way more often than not when he has the ball. Wood was about the only thing that was working out there. Freshmen will be freshmen, but without Tracy out there it's up to Lowe to get them focused, and that didn't happen. We only had 3 free throws in the entire first half.. How does that even happen? I'm not going to act like it had a huge effect on outcome of the game, but the refs were calling some pretty ridiculous fouls on us, especially in the first half. And of course Wisconson was hitting freaking everything. I'm sure our poor defense didn't hurt that effort, but they were shooting lights out.Hopefully Tracy's tendinitis doesn't continue to be a problem throughout the year, because we really need him out there. Painter has come a long way, but he's still a work in progress.I put this one totally on Lowe. I expected to see some halftime adjustments but it just got worse. Not to mention he didn't even use all his timeouts as we were getting embaressed through the entire game. Can't wait for Syracuse!

I don't know if someone has mentioned this yet, but I am tired of seeing those extra bail out passes right under the basket. I thought, at first, that the team just needed to learn to see them coming and it would work itself out, but here 6 games into the season it still hasn't happened and, instead of seeing these guys down low at least trying to finish to the hoop, we see them throwing some bullshit pass into the unsuspecting hands of another guy near the basket. They fumble it, put it up for some ugly ass shot because they don't have the footing or position to go up strong, miss it, and then neither player is in position to get the rebound. It's driving me nuts

Javi was a walking turnover, and appeared to have regressed from last year. Not what you would like to see from a senior point guard. He was also being overpowered/dominated defensively (not that Harrow could do any better).Very worried about what Kyrie Irving/Duke will do to our team. Attacking their point guard was the achilles heel/formula for beating Duke the past few years. It may sounds crazy, but Irving is probably the missing piece that would make UNC a top 5/10 team (although their paper thin post men would still be a weakness).

People are not panic because this year's team is different from 07. Deep in your heart you know that. Go Pack!
12/2/2010 12:11:58 PM
I hope you guys know that actual good teams shoot pretty well when given wide open shots. I know it's difficult to comprehend when our one "lights out shooter" is basically a roll of the dice on a wide open 3 but most good teams will knock them down with great effect if you put up no resistance. There's a reason we get lit up every game, and it's not that we have the worst luck in the NCAA

my favorite foul of the night was the one on Vandy where he blocked the dude.the announcers via replay were even curious. then said oh it must have been on howell... nope foul on vandy for a clean block lol

Wisconsin is too "experienced" to foul: [Edited on December 2, 2010 at 3:22 PM. Reason : o]
12/2/2010 3:22:20 PM
Yeah, the fouls called/not called was getting pretty ridiculous, but not 40 points worth.Had we lost by 10 with the fouls called as they were, I would have been outraged ... but it wasn't close enough to matter.
12/2/2010 3:30:09 PM
So if the refereeing is as bad as people claim (I didn't see the game) then isn't there some sort of process that can be followed - like presenting a tape of how bad it was then asking that the officiating crew be suspended for a few games or even banned from reffing State games? Please forgive the ignorance. I'm not that big of a basketball fan. Just figured there has to be a process for preventing referee bias for/against a team.[Edited on December 2, 2010 at 4:01 PM. Reason : -]

It may be too early to say, but is this going to be a CJL letdown year or not? Of the recent "upper echelon" recruits that we have had, I remember Hodge and Hickson being very productive for their first year, whereas Ced had a mediocre 1st year but then exploded as a soph. Any speculations as to what path CJL will take?
12/2/2010 7:39:45 PM
Heck, even Hodge wasn't blowing it up ONE MONTH into the season. I think it's safe to conclude CJ Leslie will not have the impact of a John Wall or Kyrie Irving as a freshman.
