Are you two going to find out the sex at her 20 wk sonogram or wait to find out at the birth?Might I advocate for the joy of finding out at birth it's really perhaps the best emotional feeling ever. I can't compare it to the sonogram of course...but there's few surprises in life. This is one of em.
9/4/2011 5:58:26 PM
^ I admire that you could wait. I am not good with surprises.
9/4/2011 7:23:41 PM
Lets talk hospital bags...What do I really need to pack? What nursing supplies will I need if I plan to BF?
9/5/2011 3:13:16 PM
Bring comfy pjs, a robe, and slip on shoes. Chapstick and glasses. Clothes for the baby to come home in. Everything else is provided. Even awesome disposable underwear. For breastfeeding, you really just need a nursing bra, some kind of easy access shirt, and your nursing pillow. They have everything you need for sore breasts or to pump. You really need less than you think that you need. I brought way too much the first time around. The second time around, I hardly had a thing.
9/5/2011 3:38:31 PM
Find out what your hospital provides. I was shocked to find out that mine didn't give a whole lot in terms of baby care (just a few diapers and a tiny package of wipes that were used up after the first sticky poop). Also bring plenty of baby clothes in different sizes and warmths. My LO was swallowed by the 3 month stuff and we didn't pack enough newborn sizes.Possibly bring some snacks or hard candy. I was STARVING and hated being denied food. Don't forget your cell phone charger, laptop, camera and plenty of batteries. For breast feeding, bring you some lansinoh cream and some great nursing tanks. My fave nursing tanks are at Walmart. They're cheap and comfy. I'd wear them with my pj pants and a comfy cardigan to cover up for visitors.
9/5/2011 9:53:52 PM
have any of you used unc as your birthing hospital or whatever? when we eventually get to that, i'll be in the "high risk" category bc of my myasthenia gravis (even though i don't take meds or need treatment, my MG doc is there, they have experience w/ MG moms, & they just want to be careful). experiences?
9/5/2011 10:02:37 PM
you need to talk to timswar. his wife has MG and they delivered their twins there.ashley_girl is right, i only have experience with Rex and they provided everything that i needed. i didn't really need to bring much at all.
9/5/2011 10:06:56 PM
whoa, for serious?! that's awesome (only bc i don't know anybody else w/ MG, much less anybody who's been pregnant). thanks!we're coming up on our 2nd attempt (as in ovulation) shortly. we skipped a month bc my brother ended up asking his gf to marry him, i'm going to be a bridesmaid, & the timing would have meant that i'd be due just a few days after their wedding day (his gf had everything planned already apparently). how long did it take you ppl to get pregnant?
9/5/2011 10:19:21 PM
We had an oops back in January 09 but miscarried pretty early on (in February). After that we just stopped using bc and found out we were expecting in October. Conception date was around the middle of September. So thats around 7 months or so.
9/5/2011 11:41:53 PM
Re: hospital bag. I agree with everything bottombaby posted. I had very little stuff for me. Most of the bag was clothing for my husband. He brought his sleeping bag to use on the fold out bed in the room as well.
9/6/2011 12:08:59 AM
Our pregnancy happened about 4-5 months after we stopped trying NOT to have a baby.UNC's maternity ward was great. All the ice cream and soda we wanted :-). But yeah, bring lots of clothes for your baby, especially if something is happening early and a stay in the NICU might occur. As for baby supplies though, UNC had pretty much everything we needed for the boys. However, we had a NICU experience so I can't speak for their normal nursery facilities.
9/6/2011 8:40:21 AM
Both of my children were very planned pregnancies. I conceived in the first cycle each time. What's even more surprising is that we only had sex once to conceive. My husband and I definitely fall into that category of "it only takes once." We are not typical, I think the average is 3 months. That's what we had planned on with baby number one and we were shocked when we got knocked up right away.It runs in the family. My mom said she got pregnant right away every time she tried. And my grandmother claimed that all my grandaddy had to do was "shake his pants at her" and she got pregnant.

Fertile Myrtles in your family ^
9/6/2011 9:09:28 AM
Yeah, it's kinda scary when you take into consideration that our main form of birth control was "pulling out.". My OB said that we were just really lucky.
9/6/2011 9:11:13 AM
I guess I can start officially posting in this thread since I'm in the 2nd trimester Have my 2nd ob appointment next week.
9/6/2011 11:01:21 AM
okay if this is too personal, ignore it, but how often do you people have sex? i've always kinda wondered what was normal for everybody else.
9/6/2011 11:47:16 AM
^2 I was suspicious of you when you said you couldn't have caffeine unless you already posted it on tdub, in which case I am way layer. Congrats!

9/6/2011 12:14:57 PM
It has less to do with what they're doing in bed than what's going internally. Some women hyper-ovulate (drop multiple eggs, the instance of this in all women increases as they get older). Sometimes ya just get lucky with your timing.
9/6/2011 12:15:03 PM
haha naw this is the first I've mentioned it on tdub.We have sex about twice a week, sometimes more. Depends what's going on at the time

i can't sleep with socks on. my feet have to feel like ice for me to sleep comfortably. the rest of me can be hot, but as long as my feet are cold, i'm good.
9/6/2011 5:31:51 PM
congrats again wolfpackgrrr and welcome "officially" to the all things pregnant threadLittle man had his 2 mo checkup today. 12 lbs 15 oz, 23.25 in, 75 percentile! And at his appt his pediatrician totally agreed this was probably reflux, and also thought he has laryngomalacia which should get better with treatment of his reflux. So we're on Zantac and hopefully this will help cause he's just so upset after feedings and randomly throughout the day when nothing else is the culprit side note...it's cool that this is also a "baby discussion" thread right? whereas the other is more like a brag thread with photos this one we can continue to talk about baby health, post-partum health, breastfeeding, yadda yadda?? or should we make a new one for that??
9/6/2011 6:37:53 PM
^ I don't see anything wrong with it Anyone here use the Bradley method? I'm considering taking the classes but they're kind of expensive.

9/6/2011 7:57:20 PM
Back in the day, I worked for a couple who used the Bradley method for both of their children and they really liked it.

See yeah, that's how I'm kind of feeling. It seems similar to yoga and yoga lessons are cheaper. But no freaking way I could get my husband to join me on yoga lessons, but he would go to Bradley lessons with me
9/7/2011 2:25:38 PM
hehe yeah i only got justin to join me on one yoga class. it was a class I took through Rex where the last one all birthing partners were encouraged to attend. w/o that disclaimer I know I wouldn't have been able to get him to join me!We also did a formal birthing class through Rex though where we got the tour in addition to learning about delivery which he did attend. Honestly though I think we both learned more about birthing positions, breathing & counter pressure through the yoga class versus the birthing one. The main thing for me in delivery was counter pressure in my lower back. That yoga instructor was particularly wonderful. But there's a great prenatal yoga class through Healthy Moms http://www.healthymomsnc.com/I enjoyed that for meeting other moms as well as the class itself. Their water aerobics class was a lot of fun too. I've signed up for their post partum classes to not only exercise with lil buddy, but also meet some more moms and hopefully through that we'll join a play group.
9/7/2011 3:44:40 PM
Oh awesome, their yoga classes are right in my neighborhood too. Thanks for the tip

9/7/2011 5:19:23 PM
^^ ever since you announced you were trying I've been looking for you to pop up in this thread as pregnant. Congrats. FYI for those that may deliver at Durham Regional... they do suppy gowns, hats and diapers for baby, as well as pump and nipple cream for mom (but no breast pads). They also supply undies (the mesh kind). Thought that may help someone else. [Edited on September 7, 2011 at 6:08 PM. Reason : add]

Told my work. They took it better than I expected considering I'm a recent hire. Maternity leave is going to be a bitch to orchestrate it's looking like
