is Debbie Yow the greatest AD we've ever had. I've never seen an open feud like she and Gary had come down to her winning it. cred++;

"I noticed on the football poster it said "State Football" instead of "NC State Football." Is that part of a new branding effort?

"We are definitely returning to the word 'State.' It's going to be on all our jerseys this year and all our teams as the way it was in the 60's and the 70's when we had some pretty highly competitive teams. I was raised here in North Carolina saying State, not NC State and saying Carolina, Duke and Wake. That seems to be a theme that resonates with our boosters as we talk about that during the Wolfpack Club Caravan.

"People just break out in spontaneous applause when I just share that information with them. I think it's going to be popular, and I am really personally excited to see us wear those jerseys again.""

obviously those jerseys from adidas we saw a month or so back are the ones

"I don't want to rehash the coaching search, but after going through it and watching other searches, have there been any surprising revelations about changes over the last few years about hiring coaches?

"The search firm we hired, Parker and Associates, who is one of the best in the United States, said to me that personally after all these years he has been doing it, he's done more basketball searches than any search firm in the United States, and he said he's never seen the culture and the environment as it was this year, meaning there seems to be less and less value placed on being in an equity league like the big six equity leagues, especially if the other school is willing to pay. He had never seen them willing to pay. He can't even figure out how they can afford to pay what they're paying.

"But having said that I'm so happy with where we ended up. It's a blessing in a way that the search that it turned out the way it turned. I'm just very pleased with us and have a great deal of confidence in Coach Gottfried, so my focus every day is what he needs, what can we do to help.

"We are renovating some parts in the Dail Basketball Facility with updated graphics and some reorganization down there just to freshen things up to make it as modern as possible. They love the building. They think it's a tremendous selling point. Mark enjoyed the RBC Center. He's had the tour, his whole family has had the tour.

"We are going to be having a new basketball court there next year, new court and new seats, all new seats, red. It'll be State red. The floor is going to be beautiful, and he will paint the floor in the practice facility exactly the same as the court that will be used in the RBC.

"When you spot up to shoot, I say this as a former player and as a coach, where your spot is often associated with a marking on the court, so we want to have same marking exactly so you have that same feeling as you get ready to spot up for your shot.

"That's pretty exciting, and we'll be talking to the RBC about a couple of other improvements. I really can't go into specifics because we haven't talked with the Centennial Authority about those.""

Amazing what regime-change can do

Quote :
"Anatomy of the Football Poster
Jacey Zembal
TheWolfpacker.com Editor

The NC State promotional football poster for the upcoming season features several of the changes that athletic director Debbie Yow has implemented during her first year on the job.

NC State included all 15 seniors with fullback Taylor Gentry prominently spotlighted in the middle of the poster. The dark background also has the downtown of Raleigh. "State Football" in all capitalized letters is highlighted in red font with some black mixed in.

The end result proved to be a success on a task that isn't easy to have original looks.

"We are trying to brand all our print materials and give it that look of 'State Football' across the board, and have that consistent look," NC State assistant athletic director for marketing Chris Alston said. "You'll notice that the schedule card has that look, and so will the poster and season tickets. They will have a similar look to each other. We are branding the 2011 season.

"We'll be having 'State' on front of the football jerseys this year, so our thought was to lets play off of that. The fans have been asking for that for years now. We are making that change from a branding perspective throughout the athletic department."

The poster also has the logos of NC State's football opponents for the first time to help give the poster a different appearance this year, plus add some color to the darkened background. The font has also changed this offseason.

"It was a good way to introduce the new font that the athletics department is using this year," Alston said. "That font that 'State Football' is in, you'll see an awful lot this year. It is going to be our consistent font across the board on our print materials, and other items you'll see."

The NC State marketing team tested out some photo ideas prior to when the players arrived. The seniors enjoyed getting dirty prior to getting their pictures shot.

"Before we took the picture, we had the seniors running around and getting dirty before the photo shoot, and trying to get that in-game, worn look to them," Alston said. "The smearing of the eye black and the dirt on the jerseys, and everything else. We did a photo shoot in the studio with each of them individually to get the most dramatic look of everything and with all the extensive lighting."

Featuring Gentry in the middle of the poster became obvious once the photo shoot was complete.

"We went in and took a look at the pictures, and that picture of Gentry could be one of the better looks a football player could have," Alston said. "We put him at the forefront, if not for anything just the look he had, but he really embodies what the football staff looks for in a player. He is one of those guys that goes all out every day. It wasn't to diminish the other seniors on the poster."

Alston said he met with the NC State football staff during the spring to come up with a game plan for this year's poster. NCSU football coach Tom O'Brien usually has some consistent requests.

"We always go back and forth on whether we want to do something with the senior class or with just a couple of individuals and focus on that," Alston said. "Coach O'Brien is very adamant about wanting to reward the seniors that are part of the program. That portion of everything has worked itself out."

The poster isn't the only product that needs pictures of NC State football players.

"We took a look at the different seniors and some of the higher profile players," Alston said. "We have three different kind of major print things that we do each year - the poster, schedule card and actual season ticket design. We took a look and said, 'This group would be good for the ticket, this group for the schedule card and this group for the forefront of the poster.'"

Having new ideas each year with large groups of players is never easy.

"If you are trying to get all the seniors on there, there is only so many posters that you can do when you are trying to fit 15, 16 guys on a poster," Alston said. "The lighting plays a key part in it. I think the black background makes a big difference with that.""

DY is killing it right now.

STATE is what we all want to see win or lose.

And if we lose, she'll figure out who is causing it. Perfect AD.

^ UNC's logo actually sucks a big dick and is uncreative as hell. Seriously the overlay of two letters has been around forever, well before UNC ever did it. They should use their shit foot logo as the dominant brand for their sports teams in my opinion.

Wake's logo sucks. Cincinnati's is actually quite good and GT's is the best in the ACC.

ive been a state fan for a long time and that's easily the best poster ever our athletic dept has produced. Can't wait to see bball poster.

Also can't wait to see the new uniforms.

But reading that article, it sounds like the people that care spent A LOT of time thinking about how to get NCSU out as a national brand, I love it.

I think what I like is the lake of words on ACC logos. The only letters are initials. Liberty and South Alabama look like crap because the lettering takes away from the picture.

I agree that GT has the best, and I'd put FSU towards the top as well.

I stand corrected, I too never realized there were words there.

But I think the point still stands that the words aren't a dominate part of the logo.

A bobcat with a basketball growing out of the side of its face makes me think about the wonders of modern science and all the possibilities.

Think we could put a baseball on the side of a woodchucks face?

Or a hockey puck on the side of an antelope?

it can be done...
