What should he have said? If you polish a turd, you still have shit?
9/10/2008 9:28:28 AM
Suddenly the GOP is getting all faint over semantic subtleties."You can't attack Obama Palin without being called racist sexist!"
9/10/2008 9:36:53 AM
the Republican party is making me want to smash my head on a wall more and more every dayi mean holy shit, can't believe anyone supports these guys
9/10/2008 9:42:26 AM
I hope they keep this up.
9/10/2008 10:14:19 AM
^ keep what up?Regaining their lead in the polls? I hope they keep that up too.Obama said after the lipstick
9/10/2008 10:31:27 AM
I don't think it was intentional but it was still stupid to say something like that, knowing good and well she's been associated with that pitbull-lipstick joke since the convention
9/10/2008 10:33:45 AM
^ It's not stupid to say it, it's stupid that they are trying to make people think it's stupid.[Edited on September 10, 2008 at 10:37 AM. Reason : ]

Here is the video for those who want to makeup thier own mind.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPd4yk0x-egMoron, this was clearly a ref. to her pitbull/lipstick remark palin made. You know it, you just cant admit it bc of the obama creed. Do the polls show obama regaining the lead?
9/10/2008 10:44:26 AM
^ how is that remotely about Palin? He was talking about all McCain's policies that were similar to Bush's, and Palin hadn't come up yet at all in the speech. The pig here is Bush and his policies. I don't see where they are getting Palin in all this. And immediately after that (which your video conveniently cut out, what are you trying to hide?), he made another analogy (that was not so eloquent, IMO) about wrapping a fish in a paper that says change, who is he attacking there, Palin again?I can't believe you don't see how you've been tricked by the McCain camp in to looking like a fool on this pseudo-issue.
9/10/2008 10:50:48 AM
So he is calling the President of the United States a pig? Is that somehow better? Yeah, I'm sure he will win over moderates by doing that.
9/10/2008 10:52:11 AM
McCain's campaign called the comments "offensive and disgraceful" and said Obama owes Palin an apology. Obama's campaign said he wasn't referring to Palin and said the GOP camp was engaging in a "pathetic attempt to play the gender card." Obama's camp also noted that McCain once used the same phrase to describe Hillary Rodham Clinton's health care plan."McCain also criticized the health care proposals of Democratic presidential candidates as attempts at a "one-size-fits-all, big government takeover of health care" ( CQ HealthBeat , 10/11). He said that the proposal recently announced by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (N.Y.) is "eerily" similar to the plan she proposed in the 1990s. He added, "I think they put some lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig" ( New York Times , 10/12).Here's the link:http://enews.earthlink.net/article/top?guid=20080909/48c5f4c0_3ca6_15526200809092042112473Here is the Obama response:Enough is enough. The McCain campaign’s attack tonight is a pathetic attempt to play the gender card about the use of a common analogy – the same analogy that Senator McCain himself used about Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton’s health care plan just last year. This phony lecture on gender sensitivity is the height of cynicism and lays bare the increasingly dishonorable campaign John McCain has chosen to run.
9/10/2008 10:53:41 AM
Yea, after watching the clip in context it really doesn't seem like he was referring to Palin at all. Really a non-issue and McCain trying to pull the victim card again which they've been doing a lot with the media, Palin's family, etc.
9/10/2008 10:54:08 AM
Yeah, I guess you are right moron. I mean, with the pause and audience reaction, I think most of those dems got the message.Your boy is one damage control now.Apparently lipstick was the word of the day for Dems yesterday.Introducing Joe Biden as "one of the foremost experts in foreign affairs in the country" in St. Louis just now, my colleague Victoria McGrane reports, Rep. Russ Carnahan also took a swipe at Palin.“For all his tough talk [McCain] buckled to the right wing of his party in his choice. Picked someone with zero experience in national government, zero experience in foreign affairs. There’s no way you can dress up that record, even with a lot of lipstick," he said. You know, deep down, that he knew he could say that attack then hide behind "its just a figure of speech". Its childish and people have seen it and now he has to do damage control. I hope he keeps this up. Bodes well for the country.
9/10/2008 10:57:17 AM
^ coupled with comments like that (associating "lipstick" with Palin intentionally) and her joke at the GOP convention... it was a stupid thing to say, especially considering it wasn't referring to a specific policy or issue, like McCain's comment was

Who knew Republicans were all Betty Friedan deep down inside.
9/10/2008 11:15:45 AM
^^ It's satire. The source is me.I watched the Obama video, and from what I saw he was talking about McCain's policies before, and after, the comment. I just wanted to take the intentional misinterpretation to its extreme. The whole thing is an attempt to "muzzle" Obama. It's a joke.

Lipstick on a pig is a phrase both McCain & Obama have used before. McCain used it against Hillary. Huckabee agrees McCain is misunderstanding it & being a little touchy-feely hypersensitive.
9/10/2008 2:19:20 PM
no, it's simply an overused [old] political phrase, huckabee is right.the difference between how they used it and obama using it is that obama KNEW he was taking a cheap shot at palin and his audience knew it and thats why they laughed so hard.i'm sure you are all wondering, like i am, where did obamas mojo go? he used to be so poetic, and so involved in his speeches. now he's just a cheap comedian, with no punch line other than sexism
9/10/2008 2:43:38 PM
Wow, this article hits McCain hard and criticizes his campaign. And this is coming from a used to be supporter of his. Plus, it is precisely my biggest problem I have with them right now. It's just fucking unethical and bullshit the way they run the campaign. It wins them elections but it's so fucked-up.This article articulates a perfect summation of it. I recommend everyone read it. I know McCain supporters will rush to his support but that's OK.http://andrewsullivan.theatlantic.com/the_daily_dish/2008/09/mccains-integri.html
9/10/2008 3:48:22 PM
Obama's response to all this:
9/10/2008 4:10:00 PM
gg to him. He needs to get on TV every day and just start yelling at people: STOP WITH ALL THIS TRIVIAL BULLSHIT!
9/10/2008 4:14:30 PM
^^obama in that video just posted @ (3:00 mark):
9/10/2008 4:15:16 PM

9/10/2008 4:20:45 PM
seriously, obama needed to make sure he won his own party before taking up mccain.
9/10/2008 4:27:53 PM
9/10/2008 4:59:05 PM
i gotta say, the lipstick comment is being blown out of proportion. Was it a bad plan for Obama to say it? probably, but only because it could easily be turned around in the way that McCain is doing it. I don't think Obama is stupid enough to say something like that.Oh, and if McCain knows what's good for him, he'll shut the fuck up about it, too. Blowing this out of proportion will backfire big time, losing him whatever "women-bounce" he might have gotten for chosing Palin.

Here's yet another swift-boat-esque move out of the McCain side:"McCain-Palin Distorts Our Finding"- http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/mccain-palin_distorts_our_finding.html

Saw this on Ben Smith's blog today. I can't believe O'Reilly actually says positive things after his huge sessions of interviews with Obama...the world must be turning upside down.
9/10/2008 6:12:05 PM
^ I would have to see the video clip of that.O'Reilly has a way of saying things but meaning the opposite, and you can only tell in context and seeing the direct subtleties in his language/body language.

9/10/2008 7:04:29 PM
when it comes down to it, i bet it ends up being split...business as usualjust like in the 1910s when people thought giving women the vote was gonna wreak demographic havoc
9/10/2008 7:11:29 PM
Too bad 60% of the populace lacks the intelligence or the logical reasoning to understand the controversy occurring on either side. In reality they will just make judgements based on crafty ads; and rely on their own personal biases to make a vote (rather if they black voting obama or white voting mccain). Disregarding the issues of which candidate would actually benefit them better.
9/10/2008 8:22:48 PM
9/10/2008 8:29:24 PM
I heard that palin was hiding from the media because she is skurred of questions.
9/10/2008 8:39:51 PM
^I don't think anyone with the last name of Clinton is going to hurt Obama with women. Also:Looks like republican/libertarian Ron Paul endorsed & called for his followers to vote 3rd party. He gave a few options, but it seems to me the most overlap will be with the republican/libertarian Bob Barr who has the libertarian's nomination to run for president along with his vice presidential nominee republican/libertarian Wayne Allyn Root.Looks like there is now a place for disaffected republicans to go.[Edited on September 10, 2008 at 9:08 PM. I like it, Obama. Prove that you are above politics by getting the penultimate politician to campaign for you. And, more importantly, say so by saying "he is really good at politics." Good work, man.
9/10/2008 9:45:32 PM
the deal is done and McCain is going to win. obama needs to go back to europe to campaign..
9/10/2008 10:07:39 PM

People loved clinton, and despite the extreme negative press and being impeached, still had an approval rating drastically higher than Bush's.Clinton is kind of a joke, but I can't see him hurting Obama. People love him.
