it picks up decently.

i can play better on a PRS SE than my ibanez. lol i picked one up the action was all fucked up and i could do the micheal romeo sweep tapping shit in 2 minutes that i've been trying to figure out how to do for like 3 years on my ibanez. I honestly don't have anything negative to say about them. My brother has been playing them for years. the guys from opeth seem to get a ridiculously clear tone out of them.if i had the money i'd buy a custom 22 or something.I'm Big Business and i approved this message./]
12/2/2008 11:36:32 PM
really? we have custom PRS guitars come through my local guitar store all the time and I've played dozens of them over the past 2 years there (setup and everything already) and my Prestige Ibanez guitars outplay or match all of them for like half the price. Obviously its playing preference but still.I dont have anything negative to say, they were very nice and I could easily play on them but what I concluded was that it wasn't worth the extra money was all. Maybe I can give one a shot through a full rig somewhere down the line but thats how I felt in store. Now of course they outplay my non prestige necks, but MIJ Prestige vs regular upper-mid Ibanez is a whole different animal.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:42 PM. how much are they? Back when my brother got his it was like 1800 or so which is about the price of a Prestige after you get non shitty pickups in there which the PRS would already have stock.I've got a Wizard II and i like it except for the fact that its bowed and i'm too lazy to fix it or pay someone else to fix it.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.[Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:42 PM. depends, they bring in a bunch around the 800 range that are the SE models, a lot of the customs have ranged from 1700 to over 3000 depending on the guitar. And yea, you're right about the pickups. My S-Prestige was $1200 plus pickups (about $250) but I took the pickups out of an old guitar that got demoted from my live rig so they didn't cost me anything. Finally setting up a solid pedal board. My rig will be complete besides upgrading to much more expensive stuff farther down the road (soldano head instead of a MESA or along with etc). But I just wish I was a better player heh. Oh well I get by as the 2nd guitar player in a metal band. I practice a lot, but I just am not a natural talent. Any ability I have at shredding at all has come from hours and hours of practice and I'm still not as good as people who have played for half as long as I have [Edited on December 2, 2008 at 11:51 PM. To me the SE models are very cheap, never liked the feel in a music store. you might have better luck with an epiphone in my opinion if you're going for a lesser priced model of a big brand. Besides the playability of the guitar, which is very important, i think the amp is where its all at. Anyone have experience with line 6 modeling amps?
12/3/2008 12:33:54 AM
That Line6 Boss GT6 clone is the shit. I've heard really good recordings made from that. I'd never buy a PRS SE or an Epiphone. Next guitar is either going to be an ESP LTD X200 (the explorer lawsuit one), an actual Gibson Explorer, PRS Custom 22 or a caparison if i run into a lot of cashI'm Big Business and i approved this message.

^^ yea I have too many guitars as it is, I just mess around on the stuff my guitar teacher brings into the store to try them out haha. and the line 6 amps, they are good for what they are . Im not a big fan of modeling amps for a real rig though but thats just me.MESA dual rectifiers and SOLDANOs are my two favorite metal amps but there are plenty of other good ones out there. And really what makes the sound more than the guitar or amp is in the fingers [Edited on December 3, 2008 at 12:42 AM. Those are nice, I've messed with the vetta II quite a bit....it has both of those amps modeled in it.if i run into some cash, i would highly consider a schecter hellraiser with a floydor build my guitar from warmoth parts.[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 12:45 AM. Reason : ...]

Hellraisers are nice guitars. Do not buy a guitar with a floyd that isn't an original/schaller floyd made in germany. CTA will tell you that ZR trems are just as good, but i've never played one.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

^^^^^was that in response to fingers or MESA being one of my fav amps? haha.with regards to fingers, I certainly dont have it, but there really is a huge difference in a great player and a good or above average player. I've seem some awesome guitar players get sick tone out of some crappy equipment. Obviously good equipment just makes them sound that much better. But the best players have "tone" in their fingers that pushes them over the edge. And yea Its all preference and ultimately build quality of the particular amp for tubes. Ive used a few different 5150s over the years. In fact I have owned 5150s longer than any other amp but I eventually sold them because they werent very versatile. They were good for me but just not quite what I was looking for. the Mesa dual rec series has some GREAT amps if you get some of the older ones. A lot of the newer ones suck and they really need the right cab match to make them sound good. Even then I had to try several before I found one that produced "the" mesa sound I wanted - definitely big differences in build quality from unit to unit.[Edited on December 3, 2008 at 12:48 AM. you know what I mean though? maybe im crazy. But there are some people who I swear could play the same part as someone else through the exact same equipment and it would just sound better.
12/3/2008 12:48:50 AM
they say part of EVH's tone is in his fingers.

oh definitely i've seen people play shit through my setup and it sound awful. I'm not saying my setup is amazing or anything, but having a good feel for any given setup is just as important as knowing how to use an equalizer.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.
12/3/2008 12:50:19 AM
i have to go to bed (way past time) so ill read it in the morning but do you use an EQ pedal at all?
12/3/2008 12:51:19 AM
no, just the 'eq' on the amp if you can call it thatI'm Big Business and i approved this message.
12/3/2008 12:51:41 AM
A boss EQ in front of the amp can add noticeable amounts of gain, even though it isn't really a distortion pedal.
12/3/2008 12:54:48 AM
i'm not really sure what specifically i need for my rig, but its definitely clarity. I'm having difficulty getting dissonant chords to become as clear as they should be.Anyone have recommendations for micing recordings? I'm just using the same Johnson J-Station and while it works it doesn't really do clean stuff as well as my amp does. I don't have any mics or mixers... any cheap solution?I'm Big Business and i approved this message./]

high mids possibly
12/3/2008 12:57:50 AM
Right now its like Bass 6.5 Mid 5 Treble 5 depending on volume on my 5150. the caparison pickups i have are very 'brassy' whatever that means.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.

can't say i've ever played live, just mess around loudly. no tubes in my house just semiconductors.
12/3/2008 1:04:25 AM
i've never played with this amp live. My old amp was okay, but sounded completely different at live volume at least for the high gain metal/punk i was playing at the time.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.
12/3/2008 1:06:38 AM
yeah, the sound of tubes is very dynamic, a good sound is dependent on volume, to get the power amp distortion so it all changes unless you can play with the voltage, which is hard to do.
12/3/2008 1:09:26 AM
nah my old amp was a solid state. Excellent unless that volume knob went above 4.I'm Big Business and i approved this message.
