9/10/2008 12:36:02 PM
i really like the backs. sharp to me.
9/10/2008 12:40:42 PM
Every time I try to watch it says "the URL is invalid".

JOE OVIES FTMFWhahahahahaha
9/10/2008 12:42:07 PM
The backs are really nice. Shoulder patches are almost invisible but pretty nice looking. The black and white flags stripe around the bottom of the jersey is cool. Red and white stripes on the pants are good, a little iffy on the arms.Fancy front office dude says that the single flag is a hurricane warning flag when the storm is 36 hours off shore. Two flags go up when the storm is 24 hours off shore. And it's tough to put both flags on it and make it look good.
9/10/2008 12:44:13 PM
i guess they did put in the new sound system! can't tell on this broadcast however.
9/10/2008 12:47:11 PM

what did Ovies say?
9/10/2008 1:18:42 PM
he asked about the one flag logosince one flag usually = tropical storm and two flags = hurricane
9/10/2008 1:30:13 PM
the flags make no sense in the other colori'm also not a big fan of jerseys that require a whole different set of helmets/gloves/pants ]
9/10/2008 1:40:30 PM
ooh i think i like this
9/10/2008 2:35:50 PM
Supposedly, Eric Staal will sign an extension soon.
9/10/2008 3:23:43 PM
i'll admit they look a lot better in those pictures than they did through that shitty video feed
9/10/2008 4:01:08 PM
I'll have one.
9/10/2008 4:09:02 PM

9/10/2008 5:53:56 PM
Yea, these are bad ass. I do, however, kind of wish they had some sort of hurricane backdrop on the jersey like the Tampa thirds... I will see if I can find a picture and post it via the edit button.[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 4:35 AM. Reason : tampa third... idea for canes]
9/11/2008 4:26:53 AM
Those were absolutely atrocious
9/11/2008 8:58:55 AM
I agree they were god awful, I was just using it as a reference. If the Canes third stayed just as is, but added like a black wind scheme or something, that would be cool. I can't find the word I am looking for to describe what I am talking about, so if it pops in my head today, I will re-try.

Looks like the Staal contract is done. Press conference for a "major announcement" has been called for 2 PM today. Unless trading Kaberle for a bag of pucks is a major announcement worth hyping up, it's going to be the Staal deal.

9/11/2008 11:24:33 AM
how does this gonna affect our salary cap in the future. I hope we don't get too top-heavy by committing the majority of the salary cap to a few players (i.e the Lightnings)
9/11/2008 11:35:42 AM
They are going to stream this on Hurricanes site also
9/11/2008 1:27:08 PM
goddamn i have good timing at pulling up the video. yesterday I had to listen to that crappy music for about 45 seconds before the PC came on, and now I had to listen to about 20 seconds before the PC came on.So far, it's just a few Staal highlights. So it's pretty obvious that the speculation is mostly correct.[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 2:07 PM. Reason : nice audio, asshats.]So Staal has signed some sort of contract. It appears to be for mmmmmm years for mmmmm dollars per year. He's probably very happy to sign and enjoys playing in Raleigh. I bet his family likes it here. I bet he likes the team, his teammates, his management, and his dollarbucks.[Edited on September 11, 2008 at 2:08 PM. Reason : but i don't know for sure cause there's no fucking audio.]

9/11/2008 2:36:50 PM
I know some salary isn't always a hit against the cap so could you possibly explain? I.e. gomez and briere getting like 10 mil a season. How do they never have a cap hit of over 8 mil? Thanks.
9/11/2008 3:20:43 PM
Their contracts were front loaded if I recall. The cap hit is an average over the course of the contract. So if you signed a contract that was 5 years 50 million, then its a 10 million hit regardless of if it's paid 1 million one year and 19 million another. So that's how it works. I'm still wondering what the hell the lockout was for when you look at the salaries players get now. Commodore was good, but not over 5 million a season good...
9/11/2008 3:32:20 PM
Yeah, most of the big contracts we've seen lately (Briere, Vanek, etc) are front loaded, so once their teams make it through the first few years they are in great shape. This contract is kind of the opposite. We are banking on financial inflation and player salary inflation over the next 8 years, or trading Staal away in those high priced years.
9/11/2008 3:42:17 PM
Kinda feel that they are overpaying Staal honsestly.
9/11/2008 4:38:34 PM
I've always kinda thought that the Canes could get away with paying a bit less than some of the teams in big cities due to the relatively low cost of living in Raleigh. No need to pay as much as someone in DC, New York, Chicago, or Los Angeles. $8mil is pretty high for Raleigh. $8mil in Raleigh is worth ~$10.8mil in DC, ~$12mil in Queens, San Jose, or LA...

raise your hand if you got NHL 09
9/11/2008 8:31:31 PM
hand raised. and i'm in love with the game
9/11/2008 8:37:57 PM
raised. My namesake is a Defensive Dman. I love the game. I wish they wouldve made me work for more than 12 games to be promoted to the NHL though... Oddly enough my D-Dman got a hat trick in his NHL debut, knocking one in from the blue line, one on a bad change by the other team when he was about to hit the bench but found himself alone with the puck, and of course on the empty net.WOOOO!!!!

Friend me up if you're on Xbox 360Dale Cooper 91
9/11/2008 9:00:58 PM
Well I've played 25+ games in the minors as a left wing and I haven't been called up yet. It is frustrating though because every game is so low scoring, usually 1-0, 2-0, 2-1.
9/11/2008 9:06:31 PM
