can someone confirm the ps3 for $399? i've checked black friday deals and haven't seen that one active (at wal-mart or anywhere)
11/21/2007 10:00:21 AM
just search amazon.comhttp://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-40GB-Spider-Man-Movie-Pack/dp/B000XGJH1O/and from the black friday sites:
11/21/2007 10:12:12 AM
no i mean the 60gb with 15 free blu ray movies. those deals are crap for a 40gb.
11/21/2007 11:08:31 AM
that's MSRP
11/21/2007 11:46:06 AM
the 60GB is on its way out, I'd be surprised to see any advertised specials with it.You might be thinking of the 80GB, which is is (kind of) meant to replace it.The Circuit City deal is decent. 6axis = $50, 3 BD movies = ~$60-70. So you're getting ~$120 worth of stuff thrown in.[Edited on November 21, 2007 at 12:01 PM. Reason : dd]

^what he said, the deals with blu-ray dvd's are ONLY for the 80gb at $499there's no such thing as a 60gb at $399, as of November 2nd, it was only the 40gb that dropped to $399, the 80gb dropped to $499, i haven't seen any 60gb PS3's for below $500http://ps3finder.com/[Edited on November 21, 2007 at 12:07 PM. Regarding Live Free or Die Hard's audio track:
11/21/2007 1:01:59 PM
Yeah i distorted my sub on Eragon it felt like the condo was going to fall down. oops... had the gain a lil high sorry guys. makes me really want a JL sub though.[Edited on November 21, 2007 at 2:04 PM. Reason : .]
11/21/2007 2:04:07 PM
Your first mistake was watching Eragon.
11/21/2007 2:09:28 PM
Oh god.The Horror of that movie.THE HORROR
11/21/2007 3:37:49 PM
for the first time ever, I'm jealous of blu ray owners.(live free or die hard)
11/21/2007 4:08:23 PM
No amount of multidirectional audio can make that movie worth watching again. Once was more than enough for that shitpile.
11/22/2007 3:32:56 AM
alert the media! an action movie had a retarded plot and was unrealistic! OHNOES!
11/22/2007 12:13:14 PM
Cancel the alert.El Nacho isn't worth any bit of attention.

40GB PS3 for 300:http://bensbargains.net/deal/48325/Sadly you have to sign up for a sony credit card. Still if you pay it off immediately and never use the card again, it might be worth it. [Edited on November 22, 2007 at 1:54 PM. Reason : ]
11/22/2007 1:52:46 PM
That kind of "deal" has been around since the PS3 was even more overpriced at $600.
11/22/2007 2:11:43 PM
Probably, didn't see it in the thread so far and I didn't feel like combing through 16 pages to find it. Also, from the description it looks like this deal was just recently reintroduced.Checked again and nope doesn't seem to have been mentioned in the thread so far. It's relevant since it represents a 25% price break if you're willing to deal with an credit card. You can of course use similar deals (buy.com or amazon.com or whatever) to get about 30 bucks off an HD-DVD player though. If you find the right sale on HD-DVD players that could be as much as 25-30 percent off too.[Edited on November 22, 2007 at 2:21 PM. Reason : ]
11/22/2007 2:16:09 PM
It generally only popped up in PS3 threads early to try and drive the price of the thing down. I understand your point, just wanted to mention that it seems to be exactly the same kind of "Get Sony Card, Save $100 On Sony Product" type offer thats been around (in one form or another) for a while.
11/22/2007 2:26:00 PM
Anyone pick up an HD DVD or Blu-ray player today?
11/23/2007 2:37:36 PM
^^ those deals generally excluded Sony Computer.
11/23/2007 3:12:28 PM
11/26/2007 11:32:56 AM
consistency.... if this keeps up through and past xmas....the bell tolls for thee HD
11/26/2007 11:34:28 AM
hahah i live in a condo and sometimes i get yelled at when audio is mixed so it moves the house when something explodes even when dialog is barely audible.
11/26/2007 11:43:41 AM
11/26/2007 11:58:42 AM
^not sure i follow. if neither format were losing market share, the weekly % would have to match the since-inception % for that week.
11/26/2007 12:19:08 PM
11/26/2007 12:41:21 PM
Oh, ok, I can see that then. HD DVD is doing a good job of holding its ground. This is probably due to all the zealotry and devotion people are having to their respective formats. Nobody wants to give up...
11/26/2007 2:23:51 PM
i've joined the blu-ray camp because I bought a PS3w00t
11/26/2007 3:00:13 PM
every week br sells 10-35% more than hd... that sounds like eroding market share to me...but i see what you mean about respective % not really changing, but if things stay the way they are, the outlook is grim for HD[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 3:22 PM. Reason : s]
11/26/2007 3:21:14 PM
It's not really eroding because that's pretty much what it is. The difference between 35% and 39% can't be more than 100,000 units or so.The more interesting thing to look at is how, despite the fact that more Blu-ray players enter consumer's hands every month than HD DVD players (because the PS3 alone will almost always outsell the standalone and 360 HD DVD players) somehow, HD DVD sales still seem to be nearly the same week after week.
11/26/2007 3:36:59 PM
^not really all that 'interesting' to look at, considering most people are probably buying the PS3 to play games on.I imagine the real draw of looking at that (for you at least) is that you don't have to look at the plain fact that HD-DVD is losing this race.
11/26/2007 4:09:09 PM
11/26/2007 4:26:39 PM
100,000 is kinda low. That would mean only a little over 500,000 movies have ever been sold. Of any movie. Of either format.
11/26/2007 4:32:46 PM
you do know what i mean right?as in in one week 66 BR sales and 34 HD salesnext week is about the same, say, 65 BR sales and 35 HD salesnext week is again, the same, 66 BR and 34 HDfor three weeks total 197 BR and 103 hdthe next week the difference grows another 32 in favor of BR to a lead of 130 etc etc. a 50/50 sales pattern for the week means the overall market share isn't changing, at 66/34 the market is shifting. abet it is impressive that hd has so far managed to hang on to 30+% week after week, despite being slowly pushed out of the market
11/26/2007 4:51:43 PM
A lot of people have been buying Planet Earth on HD DVD lately. On Amazon's sales rankings, it was at the 200-300s for the last 6 months, but this and last week, it jumped to like 20. It's at 15 right now. Blu-ray has stayed at the 50-100 range for the longest time. What do people do when they buy an HDM player? Well... they buy Planet Earth of course, and show it off to their friends! Plenty of new HD DVD players must have been sold recently.Either that, or there's a sale that I don't know about.
11/26/2007 5:33:04 PM
i'd love to know where some of you blu ray fans get your insider info lol[Edited on November 26, 2007 at 6:00 PM. Reason : probably the same place you get your logic.]
11/26/2007 6:00:31 PM
No, really - if you put the player on a treadmill it does indeed play better.
11/26/2007 6:03:32 PM
11/26/2007 6:18:12 PM
Oh, sorry, my math behind that was this: Since inception, Blu-ray has sold 60% of all HDM, while HD DVD has 40% of all HDM sold (as reported by Nielsen Videoscan). If the gap only amounts to a difference of 100k, then 300k Blu-ray movies have ever been sold, and 200k HD DVD movies have ever been sold.
11/26/2007 7:39:00 PM
i think its ridiculous to assume that most everyone who buys a ps3 is going to continue watching DVDs instead of BluRay, if the bluray disc is available. Most everyone that has netflix is gonna flip the switch that swaps out all their dvds for bluray and if they're in blockbuster, i'm sure they'll just grab the bluray disc instead of opting for the lower quality dvdI just think its very arbitrary and beyond that, counter-intuitive to say something like, "ps3 doesn't count as a real bluray player since most people will only play games on it" they might primarily play games on it, but that doesnt mean that it didn't just obsolete their dvd player also
11/27/2007 10:04:52 AM
^ MOTION CARRIED.
11/27/2007 10:08:16 AM
I got the Die Hard collection on Bluray. I've only watch the first one, and its really awesome. I have seen that movie so many damn times and I'll be damned if there was a lot of shit I never really picked up on because of the resolution, and probably because of the bigger screen. So pumped to have these movies in HD now.

^ Maybe its because the HD DVD player was only like 70 bucks and the blue ray was still up near 200-300 (I can't remember). You can't get any substantial info from that at all.Damn though, bummed that Anchorman isn't coming to blu ray. That would have been a purchase for me.[Edited on November 27, 2007 at 11:41 AM.
