Good I got $5 ecb burning a hole in my pocket.
12/18/2008 2:19:11 PM
OK, I think I need to get in on the CVS action. What are ECB's, how do you earn them? And how do you guys get such great deals at CVS? Are there manufacturer's coupons that can combine with a CVS deal to make stuff really cheap and/or free? I'm just confused. Help, I wanna be cheap too!
12/18/2008 2:47:50 PM
ECBs print at the end of your receipt for $ off your next purchase when you buy certain items. Sometimes they have items that are free after extra bucks.I transferred my scripts to CVS and got gift cards so I didn't have to pay money to get started. There was a coupon good for new or transfer scripts in the N&O, PM me your email addy if you want the PDF of the ad that was on the N&O website. I've got pretty much every rx transfer coupon that's good for stores in the area PDFed on my computer. I buy all my groceries that they sell at CVS and Walgreens there (milk, cereal, peanut butter, noodle bowls, drinks) thanks to my scripts.

12/18/2008 3:31:52 PM
Can you please explain to me what it means to be "Free after ECB" ?
12/18/2008 3:33:01 PM
like the listerine is $2.99You would pay $2.99 at the register (or less if you coupons) and then on your receipt, you would get a coupon for $2.99 off your next purchase @ CVS.[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:35 PM. Reason : f]
12/18/2008 3:35:03 PM
I get it! So, do you have to hold onto those receipts, or do they get linked to your CVS card? Also, can you use multiple receipts in one transaction?
12/18/2008 3:36:44 PM
yes you have to hold on to them and have to match them to your card, and yes you can use multiple check you pms
12/18/2008 3:38:02 PM
yeah, you have to hold onto your coupon (you cut it off the bottom of your receipt)You can use as many ECBs as you want. The only thing ECBs won't cover is tax.We should all get together and go CVSing one day [Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:38 PM. Reason : f]
12/18/2008 3:38:13 PM
^how about we get together the night before and you can TEACH ME. then we can get up the next morning and go, LOL.oh my...i think i just found an addiction. and i thought getting the coupons out of the sunday paper was good! [Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:39 PM. Reason : .]
12/18/2008 3:39:06 PM
I love it when something is free after ECBs, you use a coupon and you can find a rebate for the productthat happened a few months ago w/ excedrin express gels
12/18/2008 3:41:47 PM
^^Just wait until you have a box of newspaper inserts and a binder full of coupons. Oh, and slickdeals and hotcouponworld are on your browser quickbar.[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:43 PM. Reason : up]

Here are the sites I frequently daily:http://www.slickdeals.nethttp://www..savvydollar.orghttp://www.southernsavers.org
12/18/2008 3:46:01 PM
If I buy something that is Free after ECBs and I use ECBs to pay for it, do I still get ECBs for buying the item?
12/18/2008 3:46:10 PM
yes
12/18/2008 3:46:39 PM
Aha!!! I see the trickery now. Spend a lot OOP when you first start up, but it's smooth sailing after that!
12/18/2008 3:47:25 PM
I have one of the plastic file boxes with hanging folders to store all the inserts, and a 2 1/2" zippered binder.I'd REALLY suggest the plastic box with hanging folders for the inserts, I only clip what I think I'll use but keep the others in case they are part of a deal. The plastic box is essential because I am allergic to newsprint. If anyone needs 50% off AC moore coupons, I have got 6 papers so you can get as much cheap crafty stuff as you want this week. I bought some tins from walgreens and shrink wrap from michaels. Got the mini heat gun 50% off and things turned out really nice.
12/18/2008 3:48:33 PM
if you use ECBs to buy something that produces ECBs, that is known as "rolling your ECBs"^I need to do that! That is awesome. [Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:49 PM. Reason : f]
12/18/2008 3:48:37 PM
you dont have to spend a lot out of pocket the first time, just get good a rolling !
12/18/2008 3:48:40 PM
you guys are great. my husband is going to kill me when i start bringing home all the cvs bags, lol.i see a few of those 'free after ecbs' things up there that i could get (that i actually use) that can get me started....as long as my cvs will still be stocked at 9am, haha. none of this 7am BULLHONKEY![Edited on December 18, 2008 at 3:54 PM. Reason : .]
12/18/2008 3:51:06 PM
Shrink wrapping with a heat gun is a bitch. I probably should have got a full sized one, but the tiny craft store one will be better for the summer because it puts out less hot air.I worked at the bookstore as an undergrad, have shrunk thousands of course packs. Your first attempts will not turn out that well so don't be discouraged.
12/18/2008 3:53:17 PM
I always have problems with the CVS on Tryon Rd always being sold out of all the Free after ECB products. I should probably start asking for rainchecks, but must admit I've never gotten a raincheck before so I'm not entirely sure how they work or whether I will actually get the ECB that goes along with that product from that raincheck.
12/18/2008 3:55:52 PM
Here's hoping the Kilmayne/Maynard CVS won't be sold out so early. You say they start Sunday?
12/18/2008 3:58:33 PM
If you are looking to get items that are free after ECBs for hte entire week (not just on Sunday and Monday), CVS actually starts the sale on Saturday afternoontheir computers are updated w/ the new sale prices on Saturday.I always go on Saturday and get all the free after ECB items for the next week.
12/18/2008 3:59:14 PM
OK, so the list you posted up there are the Sun/Mon Free after ECBs items? Where are the ones that last all week?Or, if you have a link to a website that lists them out for me, just direct me there I feel bad asking so many questions, but I really really really wanna get started on this, haha.
12/18/2008 4:01:31 PM
I use http://www.iheartcvs.com to look at future week's CVS sales
12/18/2008 4:02:19 PM
I would go in to CVS and buy like....the 5 listerines for 2.99, so you spend $15 but you get $15 back...then you can buy the sally hansen 5.99x2 and halls naturals 2.49x1 = 14.50...buy some gum to bring you over $15. Pay with your ECB....get back 5.99x 2 and 2.49 in ECB's....use that 14.50 to pay two loreal hip make ups...which would be 6.99x2=$14..again, a pack of gum to bring you over 14.50....spend previous ECB's and get back $14.00 ECB....and so on and so on. I don't know what coupons you have but there are Halls Q's, Listerine Q's, Benefiber and crest Q's in the past 2 months inserts. Good luck!
12/18/2008 10:46:23 PM
^that's amazing. i hope i can form that kind of plan in my head someday, haha. i gotta learn this ECB thing!
12/18/2008 10:47:56 PM
Google "CVS Scenarios" and just read read read. Try printing some of the online coupons that are listed in the scenarios...For example, if you go here: http://www.armandhammeressentials.com/coupons.aspx you can get arm and hammer essentials Q's... it will allow you to print 2 (let one print, and then press back a few times until it prints twice)$1 off coupons for the essentials, which are already FREE with ECB...so print the two and you make $2 when you buy them. That's how you get started. There are also right guard Q's online I think...I just try to only use a few online Q's when I purchase.[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 11:12 PM. Reason : editeditedit]

Here's 50 cents off Right Guard...also can print it twice!http://www.retailmenot.com/forum/printable-coupons/27701-0-50-off-right-guard-deodorant-coupon.htmlYou can print two at work and two at home. Good luck! The week long sale is from Saturday afternoon til the following saturday but the free after ECB items are just sunday and monday.[Edited on December 18, 2008 at 11:43 PM. Reason : If you have the crest prohealth $1 Q, it is in the weekly sale and free w/ ECB and Q.]
12/18/2008 11:40:10 PM
I have a $4 off $20 cvs coupon so could I buy and a $4 off $14.99 purse, so can I buy:- 1 Listerine for 2.99- 1 purse 14.99- Excedrin Gels 3.99So that my total without any coupons is about 22.Can I use both coupons on this transaction? Then it would be 14 I pay and I still get back $7 in ecb? Will they let me do this?
12/19/2008 12:41:28 AM
^i'm pretty sure you can use both of them, because one coupon is for an item (purse) and the other is off your total transaction.^^my husband said he would use the Right Guard! now the question is, what am i gonna do with 5 things of Listerine??? also, general question about free after ecbs - do i really need to get to cvs at 7am when they open??? or will they still be around at, say, 930am?
12/19/2008 8:09:35 AM
well the deals that are good only on Sunday and Monday are not good with the "early sales" on SaturdayBut the deals that last all week, you can get those on Saturday afternoon. If you want the Sun/Mon only deals, its best to be @ CVS right when they open on Sundays (which isn't till 10am)
12/19/2008 8:39:06 AM
My CVS opens at 7am on Sundays...
12/19/2008 8:56:59 AM
mine (at the corner of tw alexander and page rd) opens @ 7am Monday-Sat but 10am on Sunday
12/19/2008 9:05:31 AM
So basically I need to find next week's CVS ad online somewhere and figure out what's Free After ECBs for the whole week and make a list for Saturday afternoon shopping. I can go by what you posted up there ^^^ and make a list for Sunday morning shopping. Sound about right? Also, the CVS at Kilmayne/Maynard opens at 7am on Sundays now. Gonna be an early day. Oh yea, I went last night to take advantage of the BOGOFree children's toys (for Toys for Tots at my work) and I signed up for my own Rewards card AND bought some stuff that gave me $9 in ECBs. I'm on my way! [Edited on December 19, 2008 at 9:14 AM. Reason : .]

OK, a few questions for you experienced CVSers.1) Do they limit the number of Mfg coupons and/or number of ECBs you can use in one transaction?2) Do you tend to get everything in one transaction, or do you split it up into several smaller ones?3) The limits they impose refer to the card you're using, right? Even if you go to a different store, using the same Extra Care Rewards card won't work if you've already reached the limit on that card at another store....right?4) Where do you find the Beauty Books and Diabetes Books? I've read about them on Slickdeals but I've yet to find either book and I've been to 2 different CVS locations in the last 24hrs.5) Are the 'Free after ECBs' items only available Sun/Mon, or are there others that run the whole week? Thanks! And I really appreciate you guys giving me this addiction....
