it's sort of a reverse OJ

no matter the amount of evidence against him, OJ got away

no matter the amount of evidence for them, DLT is gonna get charged with something

"DNA Sample May Link Alleged Rape Victim, Duke Lacrosse Player

POSTED: 6:20 am EDT May 11, 2006
UPDATED: 7:37 am EDT May 11, 2006

DURHAM, N.C. -- The result from a DNA sample that was tested in the Duke lacrosse rape investigation may give the prosecution more leverage in the case. It could also provide more backlash from the defense.

The Durham Herald-Sun reports a partial match to a third suspect was found under one of the dancer's fingernails. Previously, defense attorneys told WRAL some foreign matter had been discovered under one of the fingernails, but insisted it was not DNA.

The newspaper also says that specific test result excluded the other 45 players.

The district attorney hopes to have the official report back by Monday. That is also the day when the next grand jury meets and a third player could be indicted.

Forty-six lacrosse players submitted to cheek swabs for DNA tests back in March. A judge ordered the move after an exotic dancer told police three team members raped her during an off-campus party in March. The woman also told police she'd clawed her attackers during the alleged struggle.

Defense attorneys, though, stood on the courthouse steps in April and declared DNA tests conducted by the State Bureau of Investigation found no link between the dancer and the players.

Still, District Attorney Mike Nifong has remained steady in his assertion a sexual assault took place at 610 North Buchanan Boulevard. He ordered a second round of DNA tests at the suggestion of the SBI. Some samples are now at a private lab where they have performed more extensive testing.

So far, two Duke lacrosse players -- Reade Seligmann and Collin Finnerty -- have been charged in connection with the case."

That's laughable. Yeah, we found something under a fingernail but I'm certain that whatever it is that it's not DNA.

perhaps she took some DNA off a hairbrush or razor that was in that bathroom and stuffed it under her fingernail.

^That's just as much of a stretch as the "could have raped her in 2 minutes while on the phone with the girlfriend while in the back seat of a cab... it could happen" idea.

This is actually not a surprising development. Reading the story, it says that it comes from "well placed sources" (which probably means someone in Nifong's office). It is vague enough (in terms of partial match, "from the same genetic pool", "matches the bodily makeup") that it looks bad but probably doesn't mean anything. And since he won't identify who it "partially matches", the cloud of suspicion again falls hard on every one of the Lacrosse players.

What he's doing is trying to get one of the players to crack under the pressure. He wants to get one of them to turn on the rest.

I don't think it's going to work here - the reason is actually ironic, it is because of the rush to judgment in the media. All the Lacrosse players were friends before, through this they have bonded even closer, they are like brothers. Being accused of a crime has that effect anyway, but when it's in the newspaper every day, the bond becomes infinitely stronger. These men are probably brothers for life, closer emotionally than even blood brothers are, which makes it very unlikely that one would turn on the others.

this is all horse shit. basically a campaign for nifong to get reelected. and now all this other crap? yeah they're tryin real hard to do get blood out of a turnip.

if it wouldn't have been near election time, this never would have made it past 2 weeks.

btw, my brother goes to ecu and we've talked about this. the feelin over there is that the duke lax players are innocent, and he's seen several people sporting duke lax shirts.

Duke Graduation To Be Handled Differently In Wake Of Lacrosse Rape Investigation
http://www.wral.com/news/9204016/detail.html

With the tag line I was thinking:

No rapes
Frequent visits to ATMs and Cookout

^that pretty much sums it up.

why are we wasting taxpayer money to pursue this? granted, it's durham so if their residents want to pursue it, you can waste your own money pursuing it. i don't think this would stand in wake county though.

I've always been curios if they could calculate overall costs for cases such as this. When it comes to insurance claims, they can estimate costs on all sorts of things. Anybody have an answer if costs can be estimated for something like this?
