16 days left. lets talk about great cathedrals of college football. you knew it was coming. we couldn't get all the way through this thread up to kickoff without talking stadiums. one stadium that i thinks doesn't get mentioned too often, but should is UGA's Sanford Stadium. that place is huge. 92k! the only thing i don't like about it is that it's so close to some surrounding buildings. must be a bitch to get out of there after a game.

at least its on campus it looks like. is it?
8/17/2006 12:35:43 AM
yeah, but when i say it's got buildings close to it, i mean like within 50 or so feet. the stadium literally casts a shadow on like half the building usually. there's a bridge that runs within 15 feet of the open area and scoreboard. i believe some without tickets stand there to watch the games. just seems too congested. but a great stadium though, and you know they've got some fine looking women down there. This wasn't other-threadworthy so I decided to put it here. ESPN's College Football Power 16 is up...3 ACC teams in there with VT receiving votes. These things don't mean much, but it's interesting to see what they have to say.http://sports.espn.go.com/ncf/powerranking?season=2006&week=1I think this is def one of those years where anyone can win the NC.

^^ WOW! LSU's stadium look's pretty fuckin serious.
8/18/2006 7:35:03 PM
it is. one thing i've never understood about it though is why the endzone seating areas are so different. one resembles the end of a bowl, while the other has a double decked sort of structure. then before they "reconstructed" the first upper deck this year, they had it as a pretty straight upper deck, that didn't really mirror the second deck which curves at one point. why wouldn't they have built the second upper deck to mirror the first, and why does the second deck only have one curved area. why not extend it and curve it on the other side of the deck. you can definitely see how the stadium has been expanded almost piece by piece. it's a very strange looking stadium in actuality, when compared to a lot of other stadiums that have had multiple expansions over the years. i think Doak Campbell's expansions have been some of the most thought out, and best examples of expansions done right.
8/18/2006 7:53:03 PM
huh... well it looks like a monster, and I bet games are great in that stadium.

i went in 2004. get there early, b/c traffic is a bitch, and if you're in the upper deck it takes forever to get there. i got in just in time to witness the running down the hill. i treated my parents to that away game. it was hot as balls, and my mom (late 50s) felt like she was going to die going up the steps of that upper deck. we were only 3/4 of the way up. drink plenty of water, it's quite a hike. it was funny, b/c there were mainly Pack fans around us, but there was this one Clemson guy sitting by himself a few rows in front of me. he had a horizontal striped purple and orange shirt on and orange visor. well he had an insane wedgie whenever he stood up. i mean this was like the wedgie to end all wedgies. plus his armpits and pants had huge sweat stains developing during the game. i just couldn't stop laughing. you know you're high up when you look over at the light clusters at the corners of the stadium when the wind blows and they start to sway back and forth. beautiful view of Lake Hartwell though. you'll begin to get annoyed by that really odd sounding Tiger growl they play over the loudspeakers by the end of the first half.
8/18/2006 8:38:47 PM
I need to get 2 or 3 tickets to the game -- how shit out of luck am I?
8/18/2006 8:48:46 PM
in 2004 there were still open areas in the corners of the upper deck probably from either unsold seats, or people just not showing up. despite how everyone says how devoted Clemson fans are, besides really anticipated games, they don't usually sell out that monstrous stadium of theirs. there's usually a few pockets of empty seats in the upper decks.[Edited on August 18, 2006 at 9:19 PM. did you know that the Oregon "O" symbol was actually made to resemble Autzen Stadium's profile prior to the last expansion in 2002? Autzen Stadium's nickname is The Zoo not The Pit. The Pit is the nickname for the University of New Mexico's University Arena, which is where we won the famous 83' basketball championship.[Edited on August 19, 2006 at 6:10 PM.
