Its interesting that they made some booze out of the native plants on that planet. Which would allow a way for them to have restocked all the booze.

starbuck boxing lee? ONE decent punch from Lee (he prob has 60+ pounds on her) and she is OUT. I hate unrealistic fighting. most of it I can take (because its scifi right?). but, in boxing, he would drop her with one punch. weight DOES matter that much.
12/4/2006 2:32:31 PM
Lee had already gotten his shit pushed around by Helo.Lee didn't want to hit starbuck at first, allowing her to get a nice hits on him.So Lee was worn out and hurting, he wasn't going at it full strength, where as Starbuck's previous fight was like 4 hits long.pretty realistic[Edited on December 4, 2006 at 2:39 PM. Also, while I think Lee has great reasons to want to beat the shit out of her... You know, he still loves her. I tend to doubt he really would've knocked her flat.Though that bloody nose sure looked like he meant it...[Edited on December 4, 2006 at 3:39 PM. Reason : .]

Prolly vented the rage in the first one or two punches.

so I just started watching Space: Above & Beyond and...well...I want to like this show. I really do. I'll give it a few more episodes, but through the first three I'm a little disappointed

12/8/2006 10:38:48 PM
good episode
12/8/2006 11:57:48 PM
I didn't really like this episode. It was well done and emotional, but I think they're stalling. They should get back to the main conflict of the Cylons/humans/finding Earth.
12/9/2006 1:48:14 AM
they are, next weeki liked this episode and cant wait until next week to see how many humans were lost
12/9/2006 11:55:42 AM
how many are they down to?
12/9/2006 12:05:23 PM
they shouldnt have lost very many since they were only skeleton crews on the civilian ships.
12/9/2006 12:13:42 PM
this was my least favorite episode of the series.
12/9/2006 5:38:24 PM
and yeah, those ships were just crewed with a skeleton crew... of course, i wonder if the ships randomly jumped when they realized they were lost, and will show up later?
12/9/2006 5:41:36 PM
Some things that I always wonderedAre the Battlestars the only form of military vessel? What exactly are the capabilities of the FTL drives? I'm assuming the closer you are the more accurate you'll be (ie the Galactica managing to jump exactly where it wanted to be in the atmosphere, yet the Raptor jumping into the mountain on Caprica)
12/9/2006 10:02:07 PM
^yeah ive wondered about the FTL thing before. In the miniseries when they jumped the first time it seemed like a really big deal but then they started doing it all the time.
12/10/2006 1:42:46 PM
OK, scifi.com says they are playing the episode at THREE FUCKING AM tonight. so I will miss this weeks episode.....anyway what happened? And as far as other military spaceships. I think you have to look at the enviorment that battles take place in. With missles and rockets being what they are(and nukes) you have anything less armored than a battlestar take a hit from a nuke and your dead. Also, judging from the space battles, there is a SIGNIFICANT amount of active armor going on protecting the ship from getting hit in the first place. Which for all that you need size.In addition, you have to look at how much you save in resources when you build a singular large vessel. Can take hits in a fight, creates more room inside for all things needed for living. Oxygen, water, food, ammo, fuel etc. Making smaller ships would be less efficient because you can't make use of the room inside it anything other than fighting. Which outiside of the battlespace(?) is useless when you have fighters that can touch the enemy at a distance. And lets be honest, a ship 1/4 or 1/2 the size of a battlestar is not going to out maneuver a rocket or anything because its smaller
12/11/2006 12:24:20 PM
so battlestars, vipers, and raptors represent all of military craft that was ever created by the Colonials?I think thats very unlikely, I think some smaller craft like these could existhttp://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/support_ranger.jpghttp://www.shipschematics.net/bsg/images/colonial/support_searcher.jpg
12/11/2006 12:35:14 PM
Part of the reason the Battlestars and Vipers survived is because they were the older shps in the fleet, and they weren't as computerized, thus they were impervious to the hacking attempts the Cylon used, that served to disable other ships in the fleet during the attack. So, no, they are far from all the types of ships in the BSG universe.
12/11/2006 1:35:19 PM
No, all the Battlestars were not older. The Pegasus and its Vipers were the newest in the fleet. I was thinking of some kind of destroyer or frigate type ship instead of a carrier like the battlestars are.
12/11/2006 1:39:11 PM
^ Yeah, that's my guess. What we can see is what's left of whatever they may have made.
12/11/2006 1:39:33 PM
i'm sure they had other types of vessels besides battlestars. that would be like the US Navy only producing aircraft carriers. it doesn't make sense.
12/11/2006 2:24:46 PM
Makes more sense in space
12/11/2006 2:26:04 PM
not really. a military fleet needs support vessels, in the ocean or in space. I'm sure not every engagement they could possibly need to use military force for would require an entire battlestar, but might need something more than just some fighters/raptors.
12/11/2006 2:28:59 PM
I can see both ways being true. I mean, if you have a large "battleship" analog, you might as well have fighters, and voila, you have a battlestar. Basically, what type of vessel WOULDNT need a hanger? It would seem to me that you need a hanger on any type of vessel(recon, pick up things in space, go down to planets/asteroids/space station/battlestars). So if there are any smaller vessels, it would make sense to basically be a smaller version of a battlestar.Or, you can just make battlestars and have mobile bases.[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 2:37 PM. 12/11/2006 2:42:25 PM
I dont see how a battlestar isnt equipped to take out large ships (see battle episodes)If you have a battleship analog, and you have enemy fighters all around.....you have to rely on other "gunship" analogs, and therefore cant be a self defending entity(all you need is some fighters with nukes (like the cylons) and you cant defend yourself adequately). Fighters are a must if you are a large vessel. A gunship I can see working better, as far as peace keeping and dicking around. But in a fight with any large ship, its better to run and go get a battlestar.[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 2:50 PM. Reason : df]I like this discussion [Edited on December 11, 2006 at 2:51 PM. Reason : im a fucking nerd]btw, who says battlestars are the carrier analogs and not battleship analogs to begin with. it is in the name[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 2:54 PM. Reason : dasd]
12/11/2006 2:49:20 PM
The battlestars have very low maneuverability. The vipers on the other hand have great maneuverability but bad range. This is show in every battle scene where the Galactica is able to fire on its targets much farther away than the vipers. Also, the Vipers have never really attacked a capital ship. So basically cut the battlestar in half, take out the hanger pods, increase the maneuverability, and put in a couple more main guns...that ship would be able to kill capital ships better
12/11/2006 2:59:47 PM
Then, I will jump in some raptors or cylong fighters, since you cant kill them, fire some nukes, and peace out.Listen, the point I am trying to make is that a Battlestar as we see it can take care of everything. Fighters, Capital class ships, peace keeping(fighters) and personel movement(rapotors). Take anything away from it, and you become vulnerable from a certain attack.[Edited on December 11, 2006 at 3:09 PM. Reason : ghg]
12/11/2006 3:01:52 PM
Yes the battlestar the one end all weapon of the fleet. However, it costs a lot in materials and upkeep. You would have to have several smaller vessels in the fleet for things because you wouldn't want to send the battlestars in for every small little problem.
12/11/2006 3:17:34 PM
I wonder where the line is between the "police" and the military as far as magnitude of disturbances.
12/11/2006 3:31:22 PM
Ok, what happened last episode. I need to know before this episode, even though it might not connect very well.
12/14/2006 10:24:53 AM
