for the driving shot... i think that particular one was 1/2 seconds... but i will check my exact stats in a minute...it was 2/3 of a second long actually.at F3.528mm.with my 28-200mm ed lense.i do believe that one was at iso 200... [Edited on June 2, 2006 at 7:55 PM. Reason : mo info][Edited on June 2, 2006 at 7:56 PM. Reason : oh, and the painted shot... i just opened it and used laser pointers and stuff until i felt done]

The pictures in this thread are amazing. I wish I had time to learn about photograpy, as it's really interesting to me. But, I can't afford much past my P&S camara anyway, so it might be a good thing.
6/2/2006 8:01:54 PM
Afripino has a point and shoot. he takes some damn good pictures too.don't let yourself get held back just cuz you don't have an SLR. just know that the point and shoots have a bit of a limit. work around it.
6/2/2006 8:04:56 PM
Do you guys happen to know if there are any good photography classes offered at State? I know there's a COM class that does news photography or something like that.
6/2/2006 8:24:18 PM
I want a 28-200mm lens for my 20D. Any suggestions on an acceptable third party lens? Also, what do you guys recommendation for a good flash? I cover some high school football, and I want to be able to get the flash out there enough on plays that are a good ways downfield.
6/2/2006 8:38:30 PM
i think the 430ex flash is a good flash for canon thats still in the affordable range... but i'm not a canon buff so i am not too sure...tamron makes a decent 28-200... but just remember that is a loooooot of glass.which is why i hit the nikkor ed one... i figured that'd atleast kinda counteract the amount of sharpness loss that would happen with alot of glass.
6/2/2006 8:42:33 PM
Ummm yeah, if you're trying to get downfield shots, a flash won't solver your problems. Neither will a 28-200. Get a 70-200 so you can shoot at f/2.8. No flash is going to help you, and unless you're shooting ONLY in daylight, f/4 or f/5.6 isn't going to help you either.

6/2/2006 9:58:00 PM
define teach...cuz i'm willing to tell you everything that i know. willing to point you in directions to learn more than i know. willing to shoot with you when i am in the raleigh area. and if you don't have anything to shoot with, then i'm willing to let you test out my equipment(while i'm there)TWW to the rescue... thanks everybody for the PM's... they've helped me out alot.[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 10:22 PM. mighty fine pics ronny.you as well rvh. oh...that "light painting", what sources did you use and what was your exposure times? more pics to come. gotta hold it down for the P&S strugglers.
6/2/2006 10:25:09 PM
exposure... no idea... i just set it on like f8 and opened it in a bathroom on a tripod...used a keychain light and a lazer pointer. went wacky...oh, and a star filter.so, all ya need is darkness, some sort of waveable lightsource... and a wall.don't have to worry about camera shake... cuz... well its dark.[Edited on June 2, 2006 at 10:38 PM. So I got my D50 today and one of the few decent pictures (no good subjects, either). Still learning... [Edited on June 3, 2006 at 1:32 AM. Reason : www4 down]

^cool man, i think ya made a good choice of camera (for the cost), however i dont think the ncsu.edu files are showing up at the moment, perhaps tomorrow-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 1:31:39 AM
NCSU was working and then I post my picture and it works for about 30 seconds and dies.
6/3/2006 1:33:37 AM
ah nice man!when you start playing with it more and more, you'll learn stuff exponentially faster-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 1:35:11 AM
Hopefully, think I'll flip through the manual... not nearly as easy to operate as my Canon point and shoot. Gotta sacrifice
6/3/2006 1:36:47 AM
a few quick basic pointers on the d50:do change the white balance depending on your settings, you can hold the "WB" button on the back and then scroll through the different options as seen on the top display via the wheel on the right while in shooting mode.also: limit the after-shot display on the LCD to save on battery life.and: don't accidently leave the ISO on the wrong value, unfortunately there's no real built-in warning signal to tell you you're about to shoot some shot in 1600 ISO instead of 200 ISO. (this can be easily changed by holding down the ISO button on the back and scrolling through with the wheel on the right).-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 1:40:47 AM
Thanks! I've been pretty impressed with the colors so far without changing the white balance (I had read that was a problem). I have pretty much just taken everything on the auto mode, but I'm going to venture around and mess with settings tomorrow if I find some interesting stuff to shoot.

I've been looking for a new CF card lately, and have been watching the Ebay auctions for quite awhile now to get an idea of the price I should look for.To anyone who would know, should I be concerned with the differences between the regular Sandisk and the Ultra II cards? I'm looking for a 4 gig. I've compared the specs, but am looking for an informed opinion. Also, I've been looking at lenses lately...any opinions on Sigma lenses? Any other favorite brands I should consider? Price is a concern, but so is performance.
6/3/2006 2:43:58 PM
definitely get the ultra 2 over the regular cards. I think a 4 gig card is too big, 2 gig at most and have two of them if you need the space.sigma makes some really nice lenses, tamron too. what focal length and price range are you looking at?[Edited on June 3, 2006 at 2:59 PM. Reason : ]
6/3/2006 2:59:05 PM
make sure your camera can recognize a 4GB card though. my camera can only recognize 2GB I believe.-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 3:02:52 PM
^^ Hey man, currently I am using a Ridata 1gb card. It says "80x" on it and should yield like a 12mb/s sustained transfer rate. I just purchased a Sandisk Ultra II 2gb card and it says it should sustain like a 9mb/s sustained rate. I decided to try the Ultra II because I heard that it moves faster than my current card even though the numbers say otherwise. I'll give you an update when I test them out.And in the words of my friend (after I said I may invest in a Sigma) he said "he wouldn't want to look like a tool walking around with a Sigma. Plus Canon's are just better."[Edited on June 3, 2006 at 3:07 PM. Reason : Damnit ZiP, you posted before I did.]
6/3/2006 3:06:55 PM
your friend is a tool if he cares about looks.
6/3/2006 3:09:24 PM
looks do sorta matter when you're in a big cityyou can't rep like a silver lens or some crapits gotta be black, and its gotta be wide-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 3:11:48 PM
Fuck that, white lenses are where its at. Canon L yo![Edited on June 3, 2006 at 3:18 PM. Reason : .]
6/3/2006 3:17:52 PM
You racist son of a bitch.
6/3/2006 3:21:00 PM
"L" glass is overrated
6/3/2006 3:22:58 PM
Either you're trolling or you've not used any.
6/3/2006 3:27:28 PM
its true I haven't used any, but then again I shoot nikon ED glass is pretty sweet stuff, but honestly nothing from nikon/cannon is going to match looking through a medium format camera every day.
6/3/2006 3:29:22 PM
We're not talking about medium format though. Theres no comparison there
6/3/2006 5:35:39 PM
I <3
6/3/2006 6:37:27 PM
I'll surely need more than 2 gigs, and am not really against getting two 2 gig cards...but why would you say 4 is too much?
6/3/2006 7:49:15 PM
^^that thing is a monster^all i was saying was that the way some cameras store data on cards, some have a certain GB limit to the cards that they will acknowledge. I have heard that my camera will only consider a 4GB card to be 2GB, closer to its max.-ZiP!-
6/3/2006 9:20:42 PM
I should've quoted...I was referring to this post from stowaway:
6/3/2006 10:24:54 PM
sometimes cameras will have updated firmware that will allow the camera to recognize more Gigs. i had to update mine to recognize my 2 GB card. its different for all cams....look it up.[Edited on June 4, 2006 at 2:33 AM. Reason : also...why would 2 GB not be enough space?]
6/4/2006 2:32:48 AM
i personally would rather have multiple 1 gig cards anyway
6/4/2006 9:45:41 AM
