^Hey that's neat. As for 2 instances, it is easiest to use the console version. Run in separate folders, use the -local flag, when configuring say "yes" to change advanced settings, assign each instance a unique machine number i.e. 1 or 2. That's it. You can use EMIII to monitor them if you like. You will see more than 100% increase in your production running 2 instances instead of 1 on an HT machine. What happened to Gary Palin and chemp? Has anyone here noticed decreased point values using the new console or is this just my imagination?
9/10/2004 5:32:09 AM
nope, i got 1 point for a WU using 5.0.0, and 86 points for 4 WUs using 5.0.0my avg. daily pts. WAS 450+pts./daynow... it's a measly 326pts./dayand it's not my computer's getting slower[Edited on September 10, 2004 at 10:32 AM. Reason : .]

The points fluctuate based on what type of WUs they send out. Even though they are benchmarked, there is some variation. The only true comparison is running the same WUs on both clients. I have not heard of any problems. The double GROMACS WUs are super fast on P4's, so my points/day go up when double GROMACS are sent out.
9/10/2004 10:43:50 AM
i don't think i've gotten a single double gromacs yet, only tinkers (underrated tinkers at that)[Edited on September 10, 2004 at 10:59 AM. Reason : /]

I have two double GROMACS right now on a P42.8HT. I am not running the '-advmethods' flag, but I'm not sure if that makes a difference.

Just added another machine today. Got a new job and added the PC at work. Don't know the specs yet, haven't had time to check.Crappy thing is that 5 or 6 of my fastest machines are 3000 miles away from me now, so I have no control over when they are on or off. Before I left my last job, I installed FAH on as many PCs as I could get access to and set them up as services so no one would know they were running it. When I was there I was able to keep most of them on 24/7 but now people tend to turn them off more often b/c I notice my production decreases over the weekend.

KRUZNBY, give me atleast a day kkthxk or to make it a better race put one of your machines in my name for a week or so [Edited on September 11, 2004 at 12:03 PM. Reason : ]

LeGo I think you will hit #1 before I do, but I have you know while I was out of town I was Folding with my laptop in the hotel. I was not bold enough to Fold in the car though.
9/13/2004 10:32:57 AM
#98 Also, we have a new #1 Folder: LeGo! Congrats.
9/14/2004 9:33:26 PM
let us see how long i can hold on... had a boost today, but should be passed soon. btw anyone know where i can get a cheap laptop harddrive.
9/15/2004 2:05:12 PM
OSU Tickets- I know someone that may have a few extra student tickets, but we will not know until a few hours before the game. If you are an active folder and would be capable of picking up a last minute ticket, shoot me a PM with a phone number so I can get a hold of you on game day.Fold On!

I was looking into this F@H program, and I've got several extra machines at work that I could put to use. The only problem is we're behind a proxy, and as far as I know we can not access the outside world through port 8080, do you know of an easy way around this?
9/16/2004 8:30:22 AM
yea, have it set to "use IE settings"
9/16/2004 9:28:07 AM
I have it set to use IE settings, and IE works just fine, however I dont think our proxy handles port 8080 requests, just like it wont handle BitTorrent. I dont know of any sites that are open on port 8080 that I could try to connect to just to test it though.
9/16/2004 9:33:48 AM
looks like it should work by just using ie settings

Thanks. btw, are you guys using the default client, or something different?
9/19/2004 10:44:23 AM
I use the console text based client. What kind of processor are you running it on?
9/19/2004 12:51:20 PM
I am running the full graphical client on my laptop (Pentium M 1.8), and I just installed a copy on my other desktop which is an Athlon 1GHz. Basically I would like it to run full speed when my laptop is plugged in, and not run at all on battery. I don't care what client I use (but I guess the smaller footprint the better) - I just installed the full graphical version for the first time to see what it was doing. Also, I would like to make it a background service running full speed all the time on my desktop. Can you tell me how to do this? Thanks.
9/19/2004 1:58:02 PM
The graphical client is fine. There should be a checkbox in the options to only run when on AC. If you are a gamer and experience any graphics problems while runing the graphical F@H client, try the text based one. As for the desktop, you can set it up as a service or scheduled task as long as you are the Admin and you use the text based client (Console). It should ask you this when you install F@H.
9/19/2004 2:38:30 PM
i am at #31, prob becouse i have nto run F@H on my main pc in almost 6 months

Gracious I would love to take over my company's network w/ F@H. SO many p4's, so little use, always on.oh, I have a thumbdrive w/ I think a FAT partition on it. Will this be readable by a mac, and can I save a mac file on it from a PC?[Edited on September 22, 2004 at 9:46 PM. Reason : ]

It may work. Someone a few pages back said they take a thumb drive with them to Fold with when they are in the computer lab. Also, here is a F@H article:Home computers aid disease fighthttp://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/3597738.stm

Btw, the latest 5.0.2 actually WILL install it as a service on most windows machines.Previously the -service tag was used to keep the window from being closed, but in the most recent build, it will actually install it as a service (now works on Windows NT4+ as service). If you are upgrading, be sure to delete the config.cfg file or whatever and run the console and it's in the new settings.

theoretically this should work:3 files:autorun.infFAH502.cmdFAH502-Console.exein the autorun.inf:[autorun]open=FAH502.cmdicon=FAH502-Console.exelabel=FAH-USBin the FAH502.cmd:FAH502-Console.exe -local -forceasm

My production is really diving lately. Sadly, I can't do anything about it. 5 of my best folding machines are 3000 miles away from me and are at the mercy of people who don't know they are even folding with them...
9/30/2004 9:00:01 AM
i do seti, but i think i'm switching to this one. later
9/30/2004 1:33:57 PM
do you not show up in the team until you complete 1 WU?
9/30/2004 1:49:20 PM
correct... after your first WU you should show up around an hour or so afterwards at the Stanford site then for other stats sites you will trinkle in. What percent are you on?
9/30/2004 1:50:37 PM
Welcome to our newest member: [CLT]mendini! For the first WU to show up at Stanford, it can take a day or two. After that, it's generally every couple of hours.
9/30/2004 3:35:36 PM
well, i have no idea what % i'm at right now, i'm @ my office hours in leazar right now, i left with 35 frames done and about 1 frame a minute i think. i think it said something about 21 hours... that's a bit longer than seti's WU's.
9/30/2004 3:46:09 PM
I have some taking almost a week. Then some go in around 12 hours. They have different values for the WU's though. G/L...
9/30/2004 3:49:55 PM
weird...are all frames the same size and just different WUs a different # of frames?and is 1 frame/min good with a 3ghz p4? i've got it running on a POS desktop too now.[Edited on September 30, 2004 at 4:06 PM. Reason : .]
9/30/2004 4:03:09 PM
there are pretty much three different core's they use for each WUcore 65 - tinker's (400-500 frames, can take days) ~200pts/WU or socore 78 - gromac's (100 frames, on avg. 12-24 hours) ~40-80 pts/WUcore 79 - double gromac's (100 frames, on avg. 24-48 hours) ~120 pts/WUthe above times and points are for my P4 2.4Ghz w/ HT running 2 consoles, your mileage may varyhttp://folding.stanford.edu/faq.html#stats.howcredin general:points = 110 * (days for WU) - on a 2.8Ghz P4[Edited on September 30, 2004 at 4:24 PM. Reason : .]
9/30/2004 4:08:43 PM
ok, you said gromacs have 100 frames and so does their site, so why does mine say i've completed 1300 out of 2500?
10/1/2004 1:31:35 PM
well i guess what i meant was checkpoints, or frames, sorryunder project summary it tells you how many frames are in each WUhttp://vspx27.stanford.edu/psummary.html[Edited on October 1, 2004 at 1:51 PM. Reason : .]
10/1/2004 1:47:21 PM
yeah, i'm doing p854_p53dimer854. it says i should have 100 frames. but i'm deffinatly ~60% done with 1525/2500 frames completed. lol
10/1/2004 5:25:08 PM
good luck with it, i have been chuggin on a few of those for the last few days...
10/1/2004 5:48:45 PM
FYI i'm folding againI can't just leave my cpu idle while i'm at work. So FOLD ON!
10/2/2004 4:38:17 PM
wow, i finally got on the board.

Looks like a few people are coming back and on the up and up. WTF! I will be out of town for two weeks and I know I am going to get killed on my points just as a heads up to any one that has been trying to pass me
10/3/2004 4:39:40 PM
is the "no nonsense" client any faster than the graphical?
10/3/2004 6:01:39 PM
not that i am aware of... there are small differences potentially, but i think with that you will be getting in to very small advantages if any, such as the many discussions of whether it is faster on linux, xp, nt, etc... so to not answer your question i don't know... you don't have a HT p4 do you?
10/3/2004 6:15:36 PM
i'm running a 3.06 ghz p4 on my laptop, not ht though. hot as helli also have it running on my POS 1.8 ghz celeron desktop.
