scott wood ran plays for himself
1/12/2010 9:53:03 PM
Sid forgot to practice FTs after the HC game (92%) coming into the Va game (.62%).But then he remembered that that shit is important, and the team practiced FTs, and we shot well against FSU (83%).
1/12/2010 9:53:37 PM
I'm here to eat my crow for this one. Scott Wood kicked everybody's ass tonight, including Karl Hess. Unbelievable.[Edited on January 12, 2010 at 9:56 PM. Reason : []

Scott Wood will be here for 4 years. Thats the best part...

still credible

[quoteAnd Parks you never said anything about Javi, he obviously has showed a lot of improvemen[/quote]I thought Javi's improvement had already been acknowledged, for the record I love Javi and the way he has grown into an ACC caliber guard from a recruit a lot of people said wasn't ACC quality
1/12/2010 10:03:21 PM
Oh I will be the first to admit I thought Javi would never amount to anything.....I was hoping Mays was the answer. Javi is by far my favorite player.
1/13/2010 1:55:06 AM
Javi pisses me off lately
1/13/2010 8:14:48 AM
1/13/2010 10:20:20 AM
^^Javi is my favorite player, but he needs to be more aggressive on offense. He's a sneaky-good penetrator, but doesn't seem to even try to do so until (a) the shot clock is running low (b) the game is on the line. He could be great if he'd be a little more aggressive. On the other hand, Farnold has been a pleasant surprise this year. He's still a little too herky-jerky with the ball in his hands, but he doesn't seem to be getting himself into bad spots anymore.
1/13/2010 1:19:46 PM
One of his problems is he's too aggressive of a passer at times and that leads to turnovers
1/13/2010 2:55:02 PM
hey guys, remember two years ago when my status was "isupportjavi" and i was like "guys, give him a chance" and all that shit?
1/13/2010 3:02:20 PM
I remember 2 years ago thinking that Javi was terrible...and at the time he kind of was...but I, too, have been pleased with his improvement
1/13/2010 3:04:24 PM
He'd be great playing 15 minutes a gamePlaying 25-30, his flaws become more exposedBut at least he tries for those 25-30 minutesYou never see him just going thru the motions
1/13/2010 3:06:54 PM
except free throws. watch him shoot free throws. it looks like he hates his life when he has to do it.
1/13/2010 3:07:38 PM
I like his effort, and I love he's improving. I'd love if he was that 10-15 minute relief guy rather than the 30-35 pending foul trouble starter. He's got all the heart in the world, he just doesn't have the talent to do everything Sid wants him to do (like not turn the ball over 6 times against a good press)
1/13/2010 3:59:41 PM
I was on the javi bandwagon way back when. Mainly because marques johnson and tferg were the alternatives
1/13/2010 8:27:34 PM
Yeah, from about his 4th or 5th game his freshman, you could just tell the guy had "it." He didn't have much of it, but there was something there -- especially during the Duke game. His it factor has gone up considerably since then.
1/13/2010 9:03:28 PM
1/13/2010 9:11:20 PM
^^ "it" = LATIN HEAT
1/13/2010 9:12:00 PM
^^ please tell me that someone has video of that. No luck searching for one on YouTube.
1/14/2010 8:08:47 AM
that was hilarious. i was thinking i was at that game, but then i recall seeing a replay of it. maybe that was just in my head.
1/14/2010 9:09:44 AM
another favorite Javi moment happened during the game vs. Duke at home his freshman year. Paulus had been drawing charges on Javi all game, so during a timeout as Paulus walked past Javi to the Duke bench. as he passed Javi and was like 2 feet away, Javi fell to the floor like he had been hit by a truck.[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 10:41 AM. 1/14/2010 10:40:40 AM
^ javi was also very impressive/scrappy in his first matchup against UNC-CH. Don't remember him doing a whole lot, but you could tell, as in the Duke games, he wasn't going to back down from anyone. Especially that turd paulus
1/14/2010 12:19:23 PM
^ uhhh wasn't that right after Degand got injured and the score going into halftime was like 15-41?
1/14/2010 3:19:52 PM
^ i thought we only scored 13 by halftime. And i am not sure if it was that game. details fuzzy.
1/14/2010 3:35:51 PM
I think the game he is referring to was last year's game where Javi kept us in the game in the 1st half by droppng like 19 pts with 5 threes (or something like that). He got shut down in the 2nd half though and we got blown out anyway.Regardless though Javi's ridiculous one man comeback against Arizona earlier this year instantly made him one of my favorite State players of recent memory. Not as high as say Hodge or Grundy, but right there with Atsur. All of those guys were easy to root for.

1/14/2010 8:09:43 PM
It'd be like Herb all over again... pass
1/14/2010 8:28:56 PM
i love how boozie uses one game of draining threes to justify his argument of getting a guy whose team averages almost half of their shots coming from downtown[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 8:31 PM. Reason : .]
1/14/2010 8:31:00 PM
to be fair, you can't really compete against the big boys as a mid-major without shooting a shit ton of threes.
1/14/2010 8:35:23 PM
I mean, you can. Just get a bunch of hard nosed athletes, run and press.
1/14/2010 8:38:25 PM
Mid-majors have to take a bunch of threes or find foreign big men that the bigger schools have never heard of if they want to compete with the big boys. You can't have a front line of 6'4", 6'6", and 6'7" and expect to be able to have a serious post game when you go up against teams that have a front line that resembles what you'd find in the NBA. I remember in 2004 UConn would sometimes run a front line of Josh Boone (6'10"), Charlie Villaneuva (6'11"), and Emeka Okafor (6'9")
1/14/2010 8:48:21 PM
You're not going to beat those elite teams as your typical mid-major. You also don't have to not recruit people just because they're over 6'7
1/14/2010 9:24:18 PM
1/14/2010 9:32:47 PM
We only shot that many threes because Scott Wood decided to have the game of his life from behind the arch. You can't consistently have those shooting nights so if you're shooting almost half your shots from behind the arch, you're going to lose a lot of games you probably shouldn't (see Herb's tenure at State for the WTF losses)
1/14/2010 9:45:00 PM
1/14/2010 9:47:42 PM
yes, made threes and wins probably have a high correlation with ANY teamit still doesnt justify wanting a guy whose offense is just an extension of the weave n heave
1/14/2010 9:54:14 PM
For our team, its huge. How can you deny that? Look at our games against good teams this year, we hit our 3s we win.[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 9:58 PM. Reason : Where did I say hire Brad Stevens? TT10 wanted me to list a coach we might could get]
1/14/2010 9:57:27 PM
for many teams making threes is huge.signed, college of charleston and clemson.and actually, you brought brad stevens into the discussion by the at bigegos comment about almost half of his team's shots being threesyes, making threes gives your team a better chance to win. in other news, water is wet.
1/14/2010 10:00:18 PM
So a coach that his team shoots a lot of threes with a team of white guys could never coach here? What makes you think a coach here would run that same system? Good coaches adjust to their talent. 10 minutes from here the best college coach of our lifetime has a team that does exactly that. It seems to work well for him. 3 national titles and in a few years 1000 wins. Not advocating shooting all threes, but clearly it can work.
1/14/2010 10:02:55 PM
you are probably one of the best at putting words in peoples mouths.anything else you want to add to give your argument relevance? i believe I (and a couple of others) just said no thanks to a guy whose team runs a modified version of the weave n heave. but keep trying.[Edited on January 14, 2010 at 10:06 PM. Reason : and brad stevens does not equal coach k]
1/14/2010 10:06:00 PM
Kinda like you're putting the words that I WANT a team that does nothing but shoot 3s? I never said hire Brad Stevens. TreeTwista wanted to know a young coach we could get.Jesus Christ.
1/14/2010 10:08:01 PM
The top 3 teams in 3PA/FGA all have losing records. In fact, only 5 of the top 10 have winning records currently, and one of them (Michigan) is only a game over .500.
1/14/2010 10:08:50 PM
And VMI has been the highest scoring team in the NCAA for like the last 3 years.......I'm not arguing anything.
1/14/2010 10:09:49 PM
We should schedule them for the fuck of it. They run 1000 mph, jack threes, and play no defense.]
1/14/2010 10:12:44 PM
we still prob wouldnt break 100
