Is LTE the 7.2mbps (or whatever it is) network they're rolling out (I think Charlotte is a test site)? I only ask because I swear I saw that the iPhone 4 supported 7.xmbps data.

verizon's network is garbage and a bunch of shit wont work on the iphone because of it (like using data while on a call). There wont be a verizon iphone until verizon goes LTE

That's a load of crap. I understand Apple not wanting 3pp development environments, but not allowing whatever data aggregator you want for the ads in your app is shit. (at least that's how I'm reading that section)
6/8/2010 7:40:35 PM
Makes sense to me. Why have ads for WinMo or Android popping up on your iPhone?
6/8/2010 7:58:21 PM
Its another 'App Store' for advertising.
6/8/2010 8:02:03 PM
^^ But it goes beyond that. The way I read it, if Google came out with a "google ad-words" for mobile apps framework that you could use to put google contextual ads in your app, if those adds collect any aggregate usage data, you can't use it on an iPhone.
6/8/2010 8:31:31 PM
^thats what it is saying. Not necessarily the ad content but the ad service provider.

Here is a link to the 3GS iOS4 Gold Master: http://www.demonoid.com/files/details/2271716/31479936/You don't need to be registered or anything, I'm currently restoring mine

don't you need itunes 9.2 to do this? anyone have a link to itunes 9.2?
6/8/2010 9:07:30 PM
^yep, you need itunes 9.2 unfortunately isn't out for windows yet. damnit
6/8/2010 9:10:48 PM
http://hotfile.com/dl/47027679/1629379/itunes_9.2_beta.dmg.html mac version.
6/8/2010 9:13:46 PM
a mac link would work just fine.
6/8/2010 9:13:59 PM
Yes you have to have 9.2 beta, which the Mac version was included in that torrent.I can vouch for the authentication as mine finished and worked fine. I am now syncing it up with my last backup
6/8/2010 9:19:12 PM
I found these instructions for anyone with a jailbroken phone that wants to keep their jailbreak. Also important because it doesn't upgrade the baseband so unlocking is still possible. Will help keep the value up if you're planning on selling it. http://www.funkyspacemonkey.com/jailbreak-iphone-3gs-running-ios-4-gm-pwnagetool-video
6/8/2010 9:32:15 PM
interesting...im jailbroken now, so maybe i'll take the time tomorrow to follow those steps to upgrade to iOS 4 and remain jailbroken..
6/9/2010 12:11:51 AM
I just got finished upgrading using that site. Still jailbroken and on 4.0. Now begins the trial and error part of seeing what all's been updated to work with 4.0. Should be fun. :-/
6/9/2010 12:21:45 AM
ok, so either multitasking isn't working or I am doing it wrong. If I am in an app (say pandora) and then double tap the home button to bring up the other "running" apps and select one, it is closing pandora. (music stops). Same with games as well, switching off of Bejeweled and coming back just caused the app to reload as if I had just started it fresh. What am I doing wrong?
6/9/2010 12:23:10 AM
None of the apps will work with multitasking until they've been updated to do so. And none of the apps that are updated will be released until Apple allows it. Probably right about the same time they officially release 4.0 final. So basically multitasking is pretty much a no-go until June 21st.]
6/9/2010 12:26:38 AM
oh motherfuck. They haven't even got sbsettings working with 4.0 yet? This is gonna suck. I'm not sure I wanna use an iPhone without sbsettings.

I don't get the big deal on video calling. That has been around in Asia for years now. Revolution indeed
6/9/2010 12:51:35 AM
but now it's magical!
6/9/2010 1:04:27 AM
i think the big deal is that it will now be available to those of us in the USA. it's been available in asia for forever, but the kicker here is that we're not in asia!!! imagine that

I have a question for you all. I tried going on the Apple website to get help but apparently I have to pay $29 to get a fucking question answered. My sister gave me her iPod Touch to use over the summer. I make myself a new AppleID, download iTunes, find an app I need (offline maps) and purchase it on my computer. I go to iTunes and I try to sync. It says there's crap on there that isn't authorized to me, I tell it to delete the music and videos. It then says the iPod Touch isn't authorized to this computer or to me and won't put anything on it.So now my Touch has no music or apps on it and I can not find a way to transfer the app I paid for to it. Any help?
6/9/2010 8:56:11 AM
You should be able to select Authorize Computer from the menu.
6/9/2010 9:03:46 AM
yep ^max of 5 computers can be 'authorized'if you reach the max though and don't have access to some of the old ones that are still authorized there's somehow you can reset that number but you can only do it once a year
6/9/2010 9:08:07 AM
I do that, and it says that this computer was already authorized. Then I go and hit Sync and it gives an error:Some of the videos in your iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "[sisters ipod]" because they cannot be played on this iPod.My sister had her own AppleID account that she used with the iPod.[Edited on June 9, 2010 at 9:11 AM. Reason : if that helps]
6/9/2010 9:09:17 AM
you may want to try wiping the ipod to factory settings and trying from scratch. Ive run into the loop of authorize? -> its authorized already -> authorize? without any new media coming in. The key here is that iTunes is a piece of shit.
6/9/2010 9:13:59 AM
Is there any way I can back up the calendar, notes, and contacts on the Touch before I do that?
6/9/2010 9:16:23 AM
if you back it up it will probably take the auth info with it.
6/9/2010 9:19:13 AM
^^When you're going through issues like that with the iDevices, it's best just to restore as a new device. If you want to back up calendars and contacts and skip the iTunes shit, I'd use Google Sync (google it and it'll give you instructions on setting up an Exchange connection).

Thank god, maybe the next version of iOS will have fixed the shitty push notification system.
6/9/2010 10:54:56 AM
Yep, although I'm wondering exactly how much they can change the UI of the iPhone before they alienate what people are used to. I mean, I guess they're changing functionality of the dock thing to accommodate "multitasking", so who knows.
6/9/2010 1:06:24 PM
^^Yes, but it will only be available on iPhone 5 ... & it will be magical, because it'll never have been done before! lol[Edited on June 9, 2010 at 1:28 PM. Reason : ;]

it's all about the relevant population. americans are oblivious to what cell phone features other countries have...so it's "revolutionary" to us. not all of us have lived in japan...
6/10/2010 10:27:40 AM
^^why is it sad? I don't think you have any idea WHY developing countries tend to have the latest and greatest technology.[Edited on June 10, 2010 at 10:28 AM. Reason : .]

I gotta say, the multitasking UI on 4.0 is pretty crappy and a HUGE step backwards for anybody coming from 3.x JB who's used to Backgrounder + Proswitcher. I was wondering how they would handle the selection of what gets "backgrounded" and what gets closed down, and it looks like they just decided to remove that choice altogether and background everything. Sadly, it's exactly like the OSX experience where closing a window does not actually kill the program, but leaves it running in the background. The difference is that on OSX you can use Command-Q to actually quit a program, but on the iPhone, you don't have that option so everything is left "running". The only way to truly quit an app is to close it's window, then double tap the home button, press and hold the icon until it starts wiggling, then press the delete button that appears over the icon. I guess the bottom line is once you accept that the task switcher is nothing more than a list of your most recently used apps it makes a bit more sense. However, as anal retentive as I tend to be combined with the fact that some of the apps listed there will actually be allowed to be running services in the background, I REALLY wish they would have handled it differently. I guess they're trying to make sure that it's easily accessible to everyone.
6/10/2010 11:51:04 AM
^ Agreed. I really like how you just tell backgrounder which apps need to be backgrounded by default
6/10/2010 11:57:32 AM
i wish they'd fix some of the bugs in proswitcher though.. i'm not sure what causes the problem i've had but it seems to be when i get a phone call or text while switching apps. i end up having to restart the phone to fix itbasically whatever screen i go back to after hitting close on the text or after ending the phone call is the only screen i can get to. home button does nothing and double tapping it does nothing as wellit seems like there's another way to make it happen that is a lot more common but i can't remember what it is right now
6/10/2010 12:42:02 PM
Oh, yeah, Proswitcher's not perfect. At the end of the day, it's still a hack and for that reason alone, it's gonna have issues. I'm just saying I wish Apple had taken more cues from it when designing their multitasking UI. Namely the the fact that you only see apps that are actually doing something. Plus the screen shots and x in the top left corner looks infinitely better/cooler/whatever.]
